I just replaced all of my filters on my 580K. I didn't bend my exhaust stack with the front bucket, I was able to do that by running it into a tree limb. Well actually there were two tree limbs kind of offset from each other. I was watching the one that was going to hit the cab and blinker lights and didn't notice the one that bent my stack. Live and learn.
I'm constantly battling lost fluid. Presumably draining first to refresh would be a good idea but in this case the fluid was still pretty good. To answer the question, I didn't have to drain first so the filter must be above the static fluid level.
Thanks for the info. Mine also needs replacing and I was wondering how I was going to get to it...

Aw man! Sorry about the stack but admittedly I'm trying not to giggle, this stuff happens to the best of us!
How often should one change hydraulic filters, after how many hours of operation?
You didn't have to drain any fluid first?
