    I have a 510 as well, my Dad bought at auction many years ago. It was only 2 or 3 years old. It still works Great. But now, your's looks like New, and I am really thinking about doing what you did. Nice video, Thank You.🚜👍🇺🇲

    Turned out real nice Mike. I don't know how you remembered where everything goes. Nicely done. Looks awesome.

    17:35. I didn't know what that thing was bolted to the frame. (Mice ate the owners manual.) I inherited my dad's CIH 5100 16x7 he bought new in 1989. Planted no more than 30 a year or less. Never allowed to be in the rain or even left uncovered.

    thank you so much for making this video. very inspiring and helpful. i love my 510 and want badly to do a complete restoration on it. my father bought it new in the 70s and I would like to make it last. mine only has the single disks. if I manage to find a drill thats been junked with the 2 disk arms can i switch mine over ?

    • @michaelmiedema9687
      @michaelmiedema9687  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure about switching the disk arms out. They just “hook” on to the front rail. If they are the same width, I think it would work. If you try it let me know how it goes. Good luck with your 510!

    Mike - great video. I watched because I recently purchased a Case/ IH 5100 21x7 drill, very similar to the 510. Though in overall good condition, the 5100 needed some work. I've used your video as a guide to solve some of the problems. One problem I haven't been able to figure out. My drill has two seed flow adjusters because of its 12' length. They both have the same problem. With the adjusting nuts loose, neither one of them will take the low adjustment back to zero or the high adjustment past about "10" or so. I cleaned and lubed everything. The adjusters are not hard to move -- they junk clank to a stop. Odd that whatever the problem is, it affects both adjusters. I could use a word of advice.

      LurayFarmer I’m glad my video helped you out! When you have the seed adjusters set to closed and look inside the bin, does the seed spindle look flush on all the cups? On mine I had to adjust a few individual cups by loosening the bolts and moving left or right so they were all equal. Maybe one or two is off on each side causing the issue? Otherwise it sounds like you have already cleaned it and checked for a blockage somewhere. Only other thing I can think of, since both sides are the same is that something may have worn down over time and needs to be replaced. A good parts guy at a Case dealer may know just what you need. Hope this helps

      Mike - thanks for the reply! I'll do some more checking. I can answer your question, though. The adjuster levers will not go to zero and the seed spindles are not flush. To be honest, the position of the spindles on each side corresponds to the adjuster handle "jammed" setting, that is, about 2 on the left and 4 on the right. Likewise in terms of opening, the spindles on either side never get anywhere near fully open.

      I checked the part of your video on the grass seed gear assembly because that seems to be where my problem is. I don't have a grass seed box but the gear and housing are mounted on the grain drive shafts on both sides. When I try to move the adjuster lever on either side to higher seeding levels, the seed gear smacks into the housing, stopping the whole shaft from sliding any further. Is something frozen to something?

    • @michaelmiedema9687
      @michaelmiedema9687  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      LurayFarmer is there a way to adjust the lever on the shaft? Mine was held in place with a compression pin through a hole in the shaft.

      @@michaelmiedema9687 There might be, hard to see under there. I might look at night with a flashlight. What seemed odd to me based on your video is that the grass seed gear on the grain shaft is locked in place and slides back and forth with the adjuster, wile the gear housing stays in one place.

    Great video. I have 2 510s and I want to add packer wheels. The drills are in very good condition so I’m looking just to buying packer wheels and the arms that attach to the seeding arms. Do you have a link where to buy those?

    • @michaelmiedema9687
      @michaelmiedema9687  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark, last time I checked you could buy everything from a Case dealer, but it will be expensive! I think your best bet would be to contact ag salvage yards and see if you can find some used ones. Their are some large salvage/ used ag parts places in Indiana that will ship to you.
      Good luck!

    Mike, what horsepower tractor do you use to pull the 510? Is the 510 a 12' wide drill?

    • @michaelmiedema9687
      @michaelmiedema9687  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a 10ft drill, and I was using a 40hp, but it pulled easily, I’m sure a 30hp would be fine

      A lot of the specialty parts you can still get from a Case dealer, springs and clips, things like that. The disks I got from Shoupparts.com

    Approximately how much did the rebuild cost?

    • @michaelmiedema9687
      @michaelmiedema9687  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure on the total cost, most of it was the new discs and powder coating. Everything else was just time.

  • @johnpickering5972
    @johnpickering5972 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Got a ballpark $ on what the total parts list cost ya? If you don't mind sharing. Thanks.

    • @michaelmiedema9687
      @michaelmiedema9687  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most expensive thing was the new discs. I went with Shoup as they seemed to have the highest quality. I found Cheaper ones, but they were also thinner than Shoup’s
      www.shoupparts.com/GD6032-Double-Disc-Opener-Right
      Think sandblasting and powder coating.was the 2 nd costliest
      I’d have to say close to $1,500 altogether. And lots of hours ! But this is what I enjoy in the winter.

      It’s international harvester white, you can find the paint at Tractor Supply, I had mine powder coated, and they were able to match the paint

    1:45 How do ya get the disc openers off?

    • @michaelmiedema9687
      @michaelmiedema9687  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      After you pop the center cap off there is a bolt underneath. You need to turn it the opposite direction as the disc would turn going forward. One side has right hand threads, the other has left hand threads. This way when the drill is moving forward, the discs tighten the bolts on both sides keeping them from coming loose

      Your local Case dealer should be able to get you most everything, though it may not be too cheap. I use Shoup for as much as I can for after market parts.
