I was so close, man. It was pretty stupid to leave it outside but never considered it not curing and dew getting in it. Then, I didn't know how I'd recover to make a fluid video given the circumstances. Almost gave up. Then I thought, maybe the audience could benefit from my mistake if I edited it properly. Fun fact for first comment- I actually applied the first coat in October of 2021. The boat sat after the incident for that winter into spring 2022 until sanded. Then, 2nd recoat was done in September of 2022, then final drone footage and testing shot in February 2023. To say this project has been a long time coming or a side project is an understatement at this point. There are plenty of boats to work on around here! I'm glad to finally get this out!!! Thanks for the support.
I have completed the wiring on my new 1548. Your videos and others helped a ton. Thanks...about to tackle the carpet..debating on buying a staple gun (air)
Awesome to hear. I would if you already have a compressor. SO worth it. I bought a Wen Staple gun for my compressor and it was like 25 bucks on amazon, used it on a few boats now, should have bought one sooner.
Just picked up a 10’ jonny boat myself. I appreciate the advice, especially since i was thinking this morning of just work on the boat in my back yard since im still working on my buddies 79 F100. So, first get the 79 out of the way and then work on the boat. Also i love the paint job, Im a USAF Vet and the A10 is my second favorite jet. First is the F15.
Best part is that you remedied your mistakes and showed a successful end result. Nothing about your "before and after" performance evaluation is scientific because it's the proverbial " apples to oranges" comparison. It's overly obvious that the coating dictates improved resistance factors and considering the drop in speed is nominal against the added weight, the coating is successful. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the great response! Like i said in the video, I'd like to do a true before/after bottom coat test one day. Even with that, there are so many small variables that could affect speed changes unless it was considerably noticeable, im not sure you could pinpoint it one way or another. Another thought I've had is that perhaps the epoxy won't shine at low speeds. It was designed for air boats, so perhaps significant speed increases can be seen at higher top speeds on boats that can actually get on plane. Who knows?
I recently coated a 1652 Jon boat with fasco and did the whole outside. I really agree with all of the advice given here. Especially the choice of applicator I used brushes bc the rollers I tried didn’t leave a good finish, but the roller looks like it worked really good in the video. So maybe it was just the rollers I was using.
Yeah man it was like night and day just by using a different roller. Also its way more workable in application in thin coats by applying from tray and not pouring and spreading like i had seen and heard so many others do.
I drilled out the loose rivets on mine and replaced with stainless machine screws and washers then coated the bottom of mine in flex seal. It’s been doing awesome but the only downside is I can never paint the bottom of the boat because paint won’t stick but
I might have missed the correct spelling myself with no hard feelings cuz.. keep up the good work.. enjoy watching your video's along with tiny boat Nation, you all have inspired my build.. picture out to the left of my project...
Thanks, cuz. Yeah, I went through and did the word overlays last in the edit. I simply missed it until i watched it after I put it up. Whatever...lol. It's not like I have an editing team over here, lol. Then, when it rendered the final video, I still had some images that changed ratio after the edit. Said send it and just put it up. Appreciate the support man 👊
If you read flex seal fine print or have experience with it, it is meant to only last 1 year or maybe 2 if you're really lucky. If that meets your needs, I assure you it'll work until then! Stuff is great for quick fixes. Epoxy though if you can stand working with it, is better for longer term.
Anthony, can you share how this [or other] bottom epoxy holds up to truck bed and bank sliding? Do the high points of the boat bottom get scratched off quickly or it has been durable? Looking to add something slick to a 1444 build and second highest reason if durability from transport on off scrapes and scratches, to the drag and sliding for access to rampless ponds or marsh. I haven't seen anyone show a real test in that they use their boat for a year [whatever period], each week [defining the use amount the boat actually gets], trailerless, to access what type of water crossing what type of surfaces with, and finally the before, hoping mid use, and after shots of the bottom finish. I have lots of sand, muck, and rip rap dot rock I cross to gain access to low/no pressure areas and fish. My JB is getting a whooping from these crossing so I am investigating what actually works. Thanks again, you rock.
Great video!!! Cool project 😃Will this product work on the 4”crack in the hull of my Lowe 175 ?? Can it be mixed in small amounts? Thanks in advance 🎣🎣
Do you recommend 2 thinner coats. I have a valco that would be around 2 qt needed to coat the bottom and bow. Or mix up 2 and do one coat with 2 ppl rolling
Great video. Would you say one pint = one coat? Or do you think one pint could cover both coats on a 1436. Thanks. Trying to avoid not ordering enough but looking to save some pennies.
I have a similar sized Jon boat. I’m having trouble finding a cover that fits. The covers I found fit 54 inch width. Have you found a cover that fits? Or can you recommend a one for a 32 inch width?
Technically you can use water you want i guess..At the end of the day, bedliner was designed for truck beds, epoxy bottom coat was designed for boat bottoms
That style of drain plug works best when plugged in from the outside. As the pressure from the water pushes it makes the fit tighter. That said, plugs seem to be a rather contentious topic and many people recommend putting in a screw type plug.
I’m about to make a porta Jon out of my landau and I’m probably going to to do the same exact design almost but I really like your shark teeth on the front , did you paint that or is that like some sort of adhesive deal
Interesting stuff and a good job on the video, you might have found your speed losses in the motor and electrical systems or possibly from weight gains also, but I would have been interested in the epoxies durability and possibly if it offers protection from electrolysis around the transom from the motor. Keep up the good work
Hey Anthony I have a Jon boat how do I get in touch to get a quote to do my boat. I would love for you to do mine, I love your work and I enjoy all your videos
The reservoirs are for drinking water, hence, no gas outboards. Its my choice to go there or not. Most guys use kayaks. I prefer the rednecks with paychecks method of a tiny boat with an electric outboard. These lakes are well managed, big bass, and very quiet. I'd rather go here to peacefully fish for tanks than the other option of going to the big lakes in Ga (Oconee, Hartwell, Lanier) and compete with every other 100K $ bass boat running 90mph and millions of wake board boats and party boats blasting rap music and creating massive wakes every 30 seconds. At the end of the day I'd rather fish electric only reservoirs than the bigger lakes and the electric outboard really isn't "that much" to me, $ is relative to the individual I suppose.
That super slick stuff is garbage, it dries on like glass and makes it heavier, and cracks off in chunks. Gator glide is wayyy better, it keeps an oxygen layer in between the boat and doesn’t crack easy, I’ve had it on my boat for 3 years now no complaints.
Makes it heavier? lol. It, along with Gator Glide, can weigh no more than the volume of the quart, ounces....If you prefer to use a product that takes one month to apply, by all means use it. Sounds to me that if you in fact did use Super Slick, and it failed, it was an installer issue. I literally know 30 guys with this on their boats, including multiple boats of my own. No issues. And what the hell are you talking about oxygen layer? The old wives tail comparing the orange peel to golf ball demples creating micro bubbles which creates better hydro dynamics? If that were true every one would just use bed liner and be done with it.
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats I’m good buddy’s with the guy that owns copperhead mud motors, when they first came out super slick sponsored them and let them test it out. I personally don’t have experience with it but long story short guy at copperhead says it’s awful and doesn’t even compare to gator glide. And no it doesn’t take a month to apply, takes about 3hrs to do properly on a sunny day. iv installed gator glide on all of my boats and had no issues and it works great. I’m sure it’s not terrible for the price but I’d just spend the extra $100 and get gator glide.
If u are gonna put a floor and carpet in u can spill a oil base or I'm sure there are better paints for application at an overobundance rate ,let it set up and u have double coverage on the rivets from inside,u will cover it any how,I would think double coverage would be very little chance of ever a leak.if so ,so minor u would prob never know it.
For paint to proper stick to all that you'd need to sand it or grind it all, then clean it properly. Otherwise it will just peel off. If your going to do all that, might as well just do the bottom the proper way. But that's just me. You do you.
Penetration is spelled wrong in video. Missed in final edit. Totally not an Easter egg. Thanks for watching!
Glad you didn't trash the video of the mistakes. That helps us all for a great final product.

Got that World Famous Flying Tiger livery ✊🏼
Thank you for continuing this project and sharing it, I’m about to use this exact product on my Alumacraft 1236. Extremely helpful, thank you!!
Glad i can help! Thanks for following along! Hoping to give this boat another run this year and see it to the end.

Any thoughts on flex sealing the bottom of an old boat? It’s like a pin cushion. Just trying to go easy and inexpensive.

We need to see the mistakes so we don't make them!! Really do appreciate the videos you put out!!! Well done!! Keep it up!!
also can I apply it over old sanded down paint or do I need to go to bare metal
Perfect I have a 12ft, 44" wide Jon boat
Great video it showed the trials and tribulations of life
Absolutely. Thank u
Any insight on float pods for a 1236 can’t find what works best very well. Don’t want to waste money.
Looks nice and tight around the rivets!
It is man! Great product. Definitely no leaky rivets here.
Can you paint this after it’s applied and cured?
Do I have to take the grinder to the boat?
how many coats should be applied ? is more better???
How much weight does the coating add?

Definitely 2 thin coats. That's what Fasco recommended and you'll get a better and more consistent finish.
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats awesome thank you for that. I’ll order 2 qt kits. And make them 2 coats
spray on truck bed liner is the best
For truck beds, yes.

Would this stick to the bottom of a pond prowler? I know it’s plastic, but I like the idea of making it a more slick surface
I'm honestly not sure but Fasco answers their calls! I'm sure they'd be able to help.

I definitely need a plug upgrade!

Would stickers stick to this product?
possibly if sanded first. Epoxy dries "waxy" which prevents really anything from sticking well without roughing it up

Would u recommend stripper vs wire wheel like ur doing?
How i did it is how i do it so that's my recommendation
So all said and done, is ONE application recommended (you vs the manufacture) or two?
They recommend two coats. I have seen people do just one thick coat. I'd recommend two rolled on even coats.
Where did you get the side pods
th-cam.com/video/Gos8Vs7_OgU/w-d-xo.html
What kinda pods is on this boat?
we made them custom..Videos on my channel
Cuz. Great step by step.
I don't think they're really made for speed you did a really good job I got the same boat I want to do the same thing😊
Hey Anthony I have a Jon boat how do I get in touch to get a quote to do my boat. I would love for you to do mine, I love your work and I enjoy all your videos
Unfortunately I'm currently booked until next summer so at this time I am not locking in any further projects or quoting any new builds.
Many variables up to and including wind and water temp and thermal expansion of the aluminum slightly changing shape of hull effect top speed..
Put boat plug from the outside. Seals better.
I'll try that thx
I'm so glad I don't live in a state that makes you spend that much on a motor so I can go less than 10 mph.
