  • Ever considering getting a #bmpcc? Please watch this video first, even though the image quality is really loveable, there is so many flaws about this camera.
    This truely is the OG from Blackmagic - The Original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera - the first real camera that changed it.
    Here is what i love thought:
    1. The size!
    2. The image quality / sensor
    The battery solution i purchased:

    Totally agree. Mine has been the most janky camera I have ever bought. I've been careful with it and it still will simply turn off sometimes for no reason.
    But I love it in spite of itself.

    I love this little cam. It has its downfalls, but it's worth it. We have workarounds for all of its shortcomings.
    Also my files don't take long at all.

      Plugging it into the right USB 3.x is much better :D - but yea, it's kind of a love/hate relationship with that camera.

      @@DanglishReviews Love/hate relationship.
      I just rig it out.
      I have an external Power going to mine and have the small rig setup with external monitor to it..
      I have metabones speedbooster and a Canon converter for it cuz I use both type of lenses.
      I'm probably going to buy the atomos Ninja V recorder because I heard it will work with this as well.
      Also next year I'll probably be getting the Z cam E2 or the black magic 6 pro...
      So it'd be kind of easy for me to swap stuff back and forth and use this as a b camera.
      Good channel and great content.

    1. Get an NPF 990 battery can shoot all day on. ONE BATTERY.
    2. Get a monitor.
    3. Take the SD card out , dont use the mini usb, and get a better computer.
    I wish it was touch screen and Had a DIAL, I wish it had a front or back DIAL

    Cinema DNG stands for Cinema Digital Negative. It is uncompressed and larger file sizes are expected.
    My 1900 mah batteries don’t die for 30 minutes, but they die in 30 minutes even if I am recording or not. Recording doesn’t effect my battery life. You can always power it with something else btw.
    Of course, a 1080p s16 sensor would be less sharper than a 6k s35 sensor. This is expected as well. You can always use a speedbooster to enhance your sharpness. It’s not only effecting the field of view, it also enhances the sharpness ever so slightly. Native lenses suck anyways.
    When shooting raw, under raw settings in Resolve bring your highlights to -100 in almost every situation. This will improve the soft look you don’t enjoy.
    I bought mine for £120. I really don’t see any camera that will compete with its image quality and also that can shoot raw or prores in £1000 range.
    I also have the 6K and on many occasions, I prefer the OG.
    Thanks for sharing your frustration. However, all of your problems has easy solutions.
    Cheers,

      Am planning going for the pocket 4k but am in love with the look of the og bmpcc. When I calculate the budget for the 4k and how cheap is the og, am confused about the decision to take. The 4k with all the accessories cost for me. Maybe I will pick the og and go for the 4k when my money will reach and the og can become a b cam. Now am using the a6400 but want 10bits and a different look.

    i know you say you don't want to use a rig, but i just did some shooting with it today and I used the body, a small MFT zoom lens, a smallrig NPF battery plate on the top, and the NPF battery. The battery lasts ages and it gives you some more space to hold the camera while you walk around. Highly recommend it over a full rig cage since cages for the bmpccog are hard to find nowadays.

    • @DanglishReviews
      @DanglishReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i have been searching for cage yes. That my main reason to not want it.. The price is $3-400 usd for a used cage :)

    • @siobhanmccannbroadcasting
      @siobhanmccannbroadcasting 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DanglishReviews that's what I'm saying, the bmog cages are insanely overpriced, I highly recommend just using a small npf battery plate that screws into the quarter 20 on the camera body. You can get some pretty long lasting npf batts for it and that solves the ogs biggest issue. I got the smallrig plate but there are others

    You shouldn't be using the lpe batteries. All you need is one LPE battery and a set of Sony BPU (I use bpu 30) batteries and a plate to connect the BPU batteries to the pocket. I get 3 hrs of battery life on one battery alone.

  • @MichaelGreenwoodMG

    The colour science and filmic look of the Super 16 sensor is epic. 1080p still looks good. You need like a 80inch screen to tell the difference between HD and 4K and who as one of those?

    • @DanglishReviews
      @DanglishReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I hope it shows that it's a love hate relationship :D 🤣
      I still dream of an update for this camera - but just Quality of Life updates.. Like better battery, better I/O ports etc. - i just broke my second "power-plug" because its so skinny and fragile :)
      But honestly, i adore the quality so much, and that's the reason this camera is still alive after 8 years or so :)
      Sometimes 1080p feels more natural than overdetailed 4k?

      @@DanglishReviews do you know if broken micro hdmi can be fixed? Also I hate the play there is with mine's lens mount. Not sure if it's how the Metabones fits but I think it's the mount itself. I don't have any MFT glaas at present so just use EF glass with the Metabones.

      hmm, I see very clearly the difference on my MacBook Pro 16 inch and even clearer on my 55 inch UHD 5k tv... no need for tvs no one got to see the issues that this camera cannot even focus once.

  • @GuayusaPure
    @GuayusaPure ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Had same issue with cold temperature, it just turned off. Have to agree regarding screen being not bright enough.
    Now regarding battery life in BMPCC, those batteries are designed as emergency power, let's say you have to change your 12v battery while filming, having original battery inserted will let you do that without interrupting your filming. That's the reason they have external power socket. Didn't have any focusing or iris issues so far. Also bear in mind it's very old camera. I doubt cameras of that age had better screens. It's like reviewing 1988 Mercedes and expect it to tick evry modern days standards. Oh it bad cause it doesn't have navigation, or its too fuel hungry or not powerful enough

    I have been using two BMPCC originals for paid commercial work for eight years now. It is easily rigged with an external power source and monitor and with Metabones speed boosters and a selection of Nikon lenses I get outstanding image quality . Handling the footage correctly in DaVinci Resolve makes it possible to get noise free, sharp images despite the small size of the sensor. Every time I think of upgrading I come to the conclusion that it's not necessary.
