This is my theory of the album's story:
Richard, or Horace, knew the Watkins family quite close, maybe friends with them or he hosted a few birthday parties. If the first track "Me and Mr. Horace" have anything to go by, it's a drawing James made for Horace that he loved deeply. This indicates a happier time within his life, before perhaps he began to become more mentally ill, but tries to hide it more within his 'closet' as if . As this goes on, people begin to avoid him more and more, including the Watkins family. This finally breaks him, as he decides one night that he's "fallen from grace with God" and decides to do something....horrible. He takes his gun and goes to the Watkins house, and takes a moment to enjoy how quiet the house is before doing his deeds.
He kills Laura first, probably because she was the youngest and he didn't wanna wake her up and scare her. But then, judging by the atmosphere of the second track, James had woken up and seen what Horace had done, and Horace kills him too, but now further descended into madness having had to make James witness this. When it comes to the parent's track, it's like he's holding them hostage while doing an improvised show right in front of them, probably as they're horrified by what he's done. Until he shoots them dead too.
After he's finished what he's done, he probably sits in a chair and enjoys the silence of the house once again. He just, embraces the silence of the world he's made for himself, somewhat in a denial of what he did. But it still lingers in, the reality of what he's done, the madness he has. And then, it snaps into place what he needs to do. What's a good joke if there's not a punchline to it? And so, Richard Peck, in the home of where there was laughter and fun, ends it all in a quiet tomb of a sad clown.
...Wow, i overthought on this. Cool album btw!

I've listened to a lot of music since I was a child, various genres, from industrial, to death metal, avantgarde jazz and everything in between, and I'm a bit tired of music in general. I've listened to this whole album without skipping a second. It was like a medicine, I really enjoyed every second of it. I've seen someone complain about the monotony and simplicity of it, but that's what makes it good.

same, for me its the nostalgia from the Nighworker's work, its like looking back at a time long gone, a hazy memory you wish to go back to, and not deal with the hardships of the present. I've only to do day discovered their work, and I've already fell in love with it, there is so much charm and pleasure that comes with listening to their work. I do hope they continue to make more because this project is such a unique treat to have.

For some reason the opening song is more unsettling than A1 It's Just A Burning Memory. It truly does give off the feel of the story. A twisted man who's supposed to bring joy through his performances but ended up tearing an entire family apart. His audience may have not know his evil intentions cause all they heard was the joyful music. But as the truth was revealed, it changed the atmosphere.

11:16 Fallen from Grace with God captures a sense of melancholy that struck a chord in my heart. Whatever drove Horace to do what he did wasn't Horace, no man is inherently evil like that but Horace still felt guilty as what he had done was his fault at the end of that day and there was no one else who deserved to share the burden of the blame.

A clown sits down in the construction site.
A old man and a young lad sit next to him. The Clown looks at the clouds and says "fellas how do you get over heartbreak?"
The old man goes "I don't know how do you get over heartbreak?"
They all laugh as the young lad looks at the clown, the young man says "I lost my baby and she moved on in a week, our daughter is dead and our relationship destroyed"
The clown has nothing to say but one thing that isn't negative.
"May God Give us a break"
They laugh and get back to work.
(I'm sure we will all make it, for there are no days without storms and rain before the sun shines yet again, God Bless Horace.)

A poignant masterpiece, its beautiful how instrumental music is able to convey so much power and emotion. The three bedroom tracks are specifically haunting when pared with the story of Mr. Horace. Amazing release that is able to stand out from the other Caretaker-esque artists out there. This album is not only The Nightworkers best work, but it shows them fully becoming a unique and respectable musician. Truly spectacular album that is able to thrive off of its concept, 9/10

Damn I finally read the description after having listened to this probably like a hundred times since the upload. I love all this Caretaker-style stuff, it really hits something special for me. Today, on a whim, I actually started writing my own Horace The Clown story which, I have to say, deviates pretty far from your own chilling interpretation. I am taking pains to make sure that all the titles are adequately referenced tho, albeit in my own way. Horace is actually quite a sympathetic character in my own take, up until the ending, at least, anyway. I'd love to share it with you once I'm done with it. After all, it wouldn't have been possible without this incredible video to inspire me in the first place. Please keep it up, this stuff is like an antidote to all the fucking madness of the world :)

While this is good background music, it’s a little too monotonous to properly convey the story you want. The only reprieve was the three bedroom tracks, which I do really like! Certainly the highlight of the album. Especially the way that Laura’s Bedroom stops so suddenly. It’s beautiful. But everything leading up to that blended together to mush in my brain. I was hoping those lead up tracks would have some different mood to them, something that properly conveys falling out of life, falling from grace with god. Hiding in the closet. I think a good thing to point to for this is “Floor 3” from your haunted elevator album. The sharp downwards swing and short cutoff of the music in that track caught me off guard, a small tip-off that something is wrong, but not wrong enough for me to do anything about it. I think an occasional shakeup like that, even if only for one single track, would have worked wonders for this album. I’m not asking for creepypasta, I’m just looking for a little more variety in the mood and tone. As it stands, I am putting this in my “Ambiance for Writing” playlist, but I do think there is room for improvement!
