    For me personally this bike it's the best on midweight segment, in terms of versatilety, reliability and price!

      They haven't put CC on because most people don't want it and are not willing to pay for something they ain't gonna use, also, cannot be safely used when it's wet. Should be an option though as some people seem to want it.

    I've just revisited this road test to remind myself of your take on the 800 de as I've just ordered one. After having road tested the 800 four times I made the ,admittedly difficult, decision to trade my 1050xt in for the 800. It is such a good bike and I don't think it will leave me feeling short changed against the 1050xt.

    As a footnote. I recently watched your mate TMF 🤣 doing a review of a biker cafe. In Yorkshire we have a plethora of biker cafes - such as Squires, The Motorist, NY500, Whitby, Brid, Kirkby Lonsdale, Hawes, to name but a few.

    I have considered this as a new bike, but compared to a 890KTM its heavy and down on power. This is not a show sopper. The lack of cruise control is. The KTM is more expensive. If the DE had cruise i would have seriously consided it

  • @dxhamshack7905
    @dxhamshack7905 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I just moved to Mexico and looking for a bike to explore the many trails here as well as commuting. I been looking at the 800DE as well as some others like the 890 Adventure S, The Tiger 900 Rally Pro and some others. I find the Suzuki 800DE to probably be the top contender.
    Things that I dont like very much is the missing cruise control, missing center stand, that crash bars are optional, the too small screen and that one has to get off and use tools to adjust it, and lastly the missing after market support. I dont know, but looking at other Suzuki bikes, they also not have a great deal of aftermarket support.
    To your question if there are after market center stands I can confirm there actually are several and in different price range as well. That the bike is missing one is not a big deal as one can get one for about value of US$200 which is not too much money.
    When it comes to height of the bike, I an quite short, not that the height matter so much, but the inseam does. I am 178cm and have a poor inseam of only 28". Yes, I ca sit on the 800DE on my toes but its handleable,, it feels about the same as a KTM 890 Adventure S, or Norden 901 and they are lower.
    Thank you for a good video

    I have about 4500 miles on mine now. Road from San Diego to Grand Canyon to Williams Az before going on to flat boring west Texas. Amazing the smooth ride when I wasn't fighting cross winds. A friend said Bill Williams Mountain would be great to go up but his wife said you need a 4WD vehicle. Well, I forgot the name of the mountain and went up it. Over 9k feet and over 5 miles winding up. Got up to the top, two people there said they couldn't believe I attempted it. Then I know that was the mountain his wife warned about. The last mile up was insane. I had side cases and a big bag on the back. Had to go down so they let me put my stuff in their truck. For some reason, this has an off road screen with on road tires wth? Yes, I had the stock tires and got to the bottom without a problem but with some frayed nerves. I was first concerned about the top heavy weight compared to my 650 wee strom.
    Got the OEM Turing screen, mirror extensions and spacers. Notice you have the bars tilted back some. Would that help the wind buffeting? I have the screen in the top position with an extension piece to add about 4 inches. I'm 6' tall. When I bend down a bit, there much less buffeting.

    Bought a 650 strom 22 plate this year. Down from hyper bikes and couldn’t be happier. Belies it’s 650 engine. I was following a busa in the mountain roads and what was effortless for me in the windy bits the busa was having to wrestle it around the bends. Darent have a go on this. Mine is smooth and quick enough,very planted and economical. One criticism is the brakes

    I went to a demo a week ago in Brea Ca. Only had a 8S available to ride. Had a 800DE and was only on display. Saying it was only one in US and was euro spec. So only display. But it did have the key in it. So I started it. Made some heads turn. But it did sound good. Gave it a double stacks and shut it off. But I like many if cruise control and tube my decision would be easy. But now I have to wait and see if a tenure 900 comes out.

    Road surface top dressing is a very dangerous thing. When it thunderstorms etc it can wash it into a pile. Okay Suzuki and all you manufacturers that can't seem to figure it out; Cruise control, Quick shifter, and Tubeless spoke wheels need to at least be an option on all Adventure bikes. Bolt on subframe, adjustable suspension, and a dedicated off-road mode with all ABS and TC off button should be standard. I'm available for consulting on Saturdays. You bring the beer.

    One other comment. I just got a 1050XT V Strom mainly because of cruise control. 90 percent or more of these bikes are for touring and eating miles. If the 800 had cruise control, it would have been a very difficult choice between the two. I also have to agree with Jane G below. That front wheel needs to be tubeless. The 800 is in the sweet spot for power as far as I'm concerned. Keep up the great work!

      @@thebingleywheelerisagree. I like tubes, and cruise control is senseless. Motorcycles are not places to fall asleep, and if you want cruise control, it's a $25 add on. Tubeless won't fix a damaged rim. Tubeless is for street bikes.

      love my 800de for the twisty roads of western north carolina and thousands of miles of forest service dirt roads. heres my opinion.....if the 800de had cruise, suzuki would have trouble selling the 1050. i prefer tubes, i can fix a flat on the trail, i cant fix a bent or cracked tubeless rim trailside, and the places i go solo are typically out of cell service area.

      @wayfarer_ofthe_wilderness I was up on the Parkway today. Hopefully this weather (heat) will finally break this week. I actually test rode the 800 and it is a fine machine. I just wish they had gone with tubeless spoke wheels. I ended up buying another 1050 for that reason and the insane deletion of cruise control. It would have been so simple to have done. For my wife and my type of travel the cruise control was an absolute must. If those items had been available you would have seen us on 800. Like I said perfect machine but for us it just didn't check all the boxes. Good riding

    Not my cup of tea but in no doubt whatsoever this machine, together with Honda's new Transalp will sell like hot cakes and give their owners many miles and years of pleasure.
    Suzuki certainly appear to have got this engine right from the go. Of those reviews I've seen of the CB750 and GSXS-8, Suzuki's motor edges the Honda's in real world usability, even though it's not as powerful. I think Suzuki have got a winner here.

    Suzuki have a great new engine to take forward the V Strom legacy. But, for me, the 21" front wheel and tubed tyres would be a deal breaker. Most UK riders won't ever need their off road capability....but if Suzuki brought out a more road-focused 19" tubeless version, I'd grab it straight away. I rode the 8S back to back with a Hornet - for me, their was no competition, the Suzuki was the better bike. It'll be interesting to see how the 800DE sells against the new Transalp. I rode it off-road for the (French) Greenwich South last weekend, and it's very balanced and seems much lighter than it's weight. The dealer just add to fit knobby tires on top of the already installed crash-bars, and it went on the tracks like a charm. I'm saying this after 75000+ km on an Africa Twin 1000, including an off-road trip to Morocco last fall: this bike will be my next bike!

    That would be a cracker of a bike. I wish I were 6’ and a 33” inseam many things would be more manageable than for my 5’8” 30.5” inseam. Yes, I’ll add that .5 in there, 😂

    Superlative scenery!
    100% w/ your thoughts regarding criminally irresponsible council' spreading excess gravel. They do it here in Leicestershire too. Same deal w/ it being in patches also. Municipal vandalism is what it is & it's amazing these otherwise safety zealots cut down conker trees to stop kids playing a 'dangerous game', endlessly introduce infantile regs & restrictions for our own good - then lay out death traps such as these. Jail should be on for these dangerous clowns!! 🤡

      Spot on Dave.why they don’t just use the smooth tarmac used on bigger roads (and which lasts longer) I’ll never know…..unless they have other motives of course

    • @daveh9003
      @daveh9003 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thebingleywheeler "other motives" ~ exactly so! Bit like the plague of phantom roadworks, whereby all routes in & out of my town & surrounding environs have signage & traffic lights causing jams. And at each & all these places, no workers, no equipment, no obvious failures in surface, nor any sign of ANYTHING being or been done. It's almost like the zealots are trying to suck any remaining enjoyment from motoring in order to curb/ deter journeys. Hmmmm 🤔 funny that.......

    Man I thought my old Vstrom was ugly. Did they try and make it this ugly? It's just incredible! The 1050s look 99% better than these. However I never bought my other vstrom because of how it looked. I bought it for the all round function. I will probably end up buying this bike and a complete vinyl wrap so I don't vomit every time I see it. Function wise I think Suzuki has done very well and have been able to check many of the boxes that I require.

      @@thebingleywheeler Yes of course. Perhaps 2025 they will have a better color scheme. It isn't the shape of the bike that I dislike so much. It's the colors. To me they can't get much worse. But I would also really like to have cruise as an option. I have never had it but find myself always wanting it. Especially when riding alone. Hard to use of course with multiple riders I would assume.
