    Maybe I'm a freak/nerd for this but it's actually appealing to me that this bike is very quiet from the factory. I really don't want to bother others around me when I'm on my bike, particularly around trails etc, so a quiet bike works for me!

    • @onthebackwheel
      @onthebackwheel  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not at all mate. I don't mind a quiet bike nowadays either, but a little bit more would be nice so I can gauge my revs better. Plus that exhaust 🤮

      I’m for the quiet bikes too. I’ve kept the stock pipe on my dr, but I like the weight saving of the aftermarket as well. DG supposedly has a pretty quiet pipe for the dr I might try

    You have a talent for these reviews. I love how you talk your way through the trail. I feel like I can benefit from you telling me what you are doing while you ride. I know I will never be able to ride a 500lb bike on the stuff you do, but maybe there is hope for me and my DRZ400S 😊

    Excellent review of an ADV bike doing ADV stuff. The 800DE just seems to be much more capable of road than the Transalp. I'm most likely going to get this bike soon.

    • @PerspectiveBeyond
      @PerspectiveBeyond ปีที่แล้ว

      For me the worst part of the Transalp off-road is that part at the bottom of the engine that sticks out (and by a lot). It feels very delicate on rough terrain, and could also act as an "anchor" if it gets stuck behind a large rock or log. I guess a proper skid plate can mitigate this but, I don't know, feels like a big design flaw for an ADV.

As a rabid 990 rider who dreads the day I need to put her to pasture, this video was perfect and gives me hope that I can find a "relatively" old school bike to take her place when I do. That type riding with a little more single track and a little less silt/sand is exactly what I love on my big orange girl, and watching your cockpit view and listening to your play by play was absolutely perfect. Great riding btw, and I can't wait to see you on it again with some new rubber and a bit of suspension tuning. Now if FMF would only make a pipe for it. At 10M52 you say the engine is not noisy enough. Suzuki has understood the trend all over the world towards less noise permitted and you need to consider that, even if it is not the case in OZ. Why would you need more noise? Ols macho stuff, I'm afraid. Little noise, much power sounds perfect to me and good on Suzuki for having understood that the world does not want a bunch of really noisy off road riders riding through some times private land. So think it through! What YOU say has meaning, since you are a you tuber. Young minds are influencable! But, have fun riding! I think you have the best middle weight ADV bike there is!

Suzuki is often slagged off for being slow to release new bikes, or add new tech. But they tend to make bikes that really work. The first bike I ever rode with great ABS was a Suzuki. Also, I think Suzuki believes "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" This has allowed them to build great bikes and keep prices low and their components reliable. Hey Curtis, with the bigger 17" rear and 21" front, maybe drop the triple clamps 3-4mm through the forks for a little sharper steering without effecting stability too much. I have done it on my slower turning bikes and it makes a noticeable difference. If you are worried about sand stability, if you have room, try moving the back wheel back in the adjusters. You just may need to get a few links longer chain.

    Great video! I was wondering why no one had taken it out on trails yet :O
    I test rode one last week, but will stay on my 650XT for now. I got my 650XT through some trails last weekend and surprised the KTMs and Teneres that I could keep their pace, but damn, I bottomed out quite often hahaha.
    Two of the things I really didn't like compared to the 650XT were 1) The vibrations through my feet. On the 650XT I don't feel any vibrations in my feet, while on the 800DE they were really annoying. 2) The head from the motor. On the 800 DE when riding slow or standing in traffic, the head comes up between my legs, while on the 650XT I feel nothing.
