In Ph, it's akin to plain GI sheet, the only difference is that galvalume is in rolled sheets. We only use this mostly on exterior walls or wooden doors as a protective material during wet seasons (but could be taken as permanent though😁). I think it's not suitable for roofing here...

My galvalume roof was almost 25 years old and still looked great. No rust streaks or holes. It only needed the fasteners changed due to degraded rubber washers. Ida put it in the neighbors yards though, haha.

I am looking at putting a metal roof (galvalume) over an existing shingle roof. I have copper on all the valleys of the roof...do I need to remove the copper valleys, or can I leave them and have the galvalume touching where they meet?

The copper will react with the steel and eventually corrode it. It's best to remove the copper from the system completely. Make sure you also use a new underlayment between the shingles and metal as well for the best weathertightness. -Thad

I'm getting 24 squares put on tomorrow 9/9, of the silver metal (not painted). Found a DEAL I couldn't pass up...$6,350 total! (West Mobile)

Not for a coastal environment? I'm on the Gulf coast and my builder has recommended a Galvalume 26 roof.

We recommend aluminum if you're within 1,500 feet of a coastline. -Thad

In other words, it’s not recommended for use in many places at all! Just another high priced product that the manufacturer and installer will both find plenty of reasons why they can’t cover a “valid” warranty claim and will be on the homeowner
