I see a red truck and i want to paint it black. But what if you did a silver truck. A bit darker than usual. Not gunmetal. Then throw a brassy Champaign on the wheels.

If it was an 87 it would have independent suspension so I’m taking it as 85 because it had a straight axle and 85

I would start with a yellow or cream and cut out the decals to use a tape for the top coat of wine red. It should age well and have some custom look.

Im doing my extra cab Toreador Red Met ( FLake ) made by Dupli-Color Perflect Match it looks wild will be doing ClearCoat when it stops raining but the color just pops with the yellow pinstripe holding it up to truck

I have painted many model Toyota trucks hugger orange with flat black hood . Two tone the interior . With that decal kit you will win competitions with it.

👍 patiently waiting for the end result. What wheels are those. Those had a solid package tray in the back If memory serves correctly. The fold down seats were in 89. I had and 88 EFI sr5 5sp extra cab. Loved that truck. Go with the classic Yota cream color or yellow

I had a 94 which was IFS and a little more round, kind of miss that truck. I know you like weathering, but what about you pick two or three factory colors. Like the hood and a door are a different color than the body and the bed is all primer, sort of its in the process of being restored instead of just neglected.
