    There is a saying in the factory i used to work in "If its brown its cooked, if its black its fuc***" those bulbs sure looked like the saying :-)
    They didnt make it that easy did they, im sure manufacturers dont want you to repair your car.
    Smashing job mate, great tutorial for toyota owners/repairers :-)

    This is by far the best video on this topic, because it is the only one that deals with non-tilt control steering wheels.

    I had a 95 explorer that had a bulb go out in the cluster, right at the 60 mph mark so i couldn't tell if i was going 60 or 70 on the highway. lol. I replaced all the bulbs with 194's. New bulbs were so bright, felt like a new car! Thanks for the video Rich

    Thank you very much Rich! Thought this might be easy, as I'm no real mechanic. I'm off to the dealer for this one.

    Great Video Rich as Always! On GM vehicles, on those two upper phillips screws on the instrument panel surround, I like using a Milwaukee 48-32-2100 OFF-SET Power Screwdriver Head. In fact, I prefer using this tool on interior trim removal due to the various strange angles. Your method works just as well!

    Thank you so much for showing how to do this. It helped me out and allowed me to tackle the job. The steering wheel lowering by removing those bolts made it easy to get the instrumental panel. Great job

    Good tutorial, technically you don't have to take off the knee bolster. You can slide the bezel (carefully) and it won't damage the top steering column cover. (I did this both for 1998-2002s with or without the tilt function.)

  • @gatorlenta

    Thanks Rich, this video is very helpful. My Prizm model doesn't have tilt control, so I was wondering how to remove/install the bezel to gain access to the cluster. Without your video I probably wouldn't have figured out how to lower the column to do it. Many thanks!!

    Great video. Surprisingly it seems a lot more involved with the trim removal on the Prizm than the Corolla; all that's necessary for the Corolla is the removal of the top two Philips screws for the black bezel/surround and it pops right out.

    Perfect walk through of how to change these bulbs. What is the green cover for? Is it to make the dash lights light green? If you didn't put the green on, would the lights be white? I prefer white over light green. thanks

    With the engine running check the voltage at the battery with a multimeter it should be in the range of 13.5 to 14.5 volts.

    Can you used leds instead ?. This job is really painfull, with leds it will the first and the last time you change em. But guessing that leeds are too focused to get this area iluminated as the bulbs do ....

  • @GammaCruxis
    @GammaCruxis 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You would have to get leds with a wider angle - and they do sell those - but they get expensive very quickly.

  • @RichpinTv
    @RichpinTv  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is still on the road till the first of April.I think my father would sell it for maybe a $100. at that time.

    Hey Rich! My winter beater is a 2000 Prizm. No tach. Do you know if I could swap out the panel for one like this with a tach? Thanks.

      I am not sure but it is an interesting mod....i must investigate.

    • @gatorlenta
      @gatorlenta 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, absolutely. I have a 1999 Prizm and I recently installed an instrument cluster with a tachometer from a 2001 or 2002 Corolla. The tach and odo have a white background and it looks great, works perfectly fine.

  • @Vidal2021
    @Vidal2021 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm curious if a corolla cluster will function in a prizm? I just purchased a 2000 Prizm and it does not have RPM gauge, in the cluster..

    • @gatorlenta
      @gatorlenta 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does. I took a nice-looking cluster with a white background out of a 2001 Corolla (I think), and put it in my 1999 Prizm. Works perfectly fine. Be aware though, the plastic bezel is not the same for both Corolla and Prizm. Make sure you don't break the existing bezel during removal, so that you can re-use it. I do have one spare Prizm bezel here though!

    Rich, are you reducing your video volume? I haven't seen anything from you lately. That looks to be a pretty clean car for the age-- Seems odd that all 3 bulbs passed away all at the same time but as long as they all stay working that's the main objective, you have an assistant now?

    Hey I have a 98 chevy prizm with the tilt wheel and I tried taking the bezel out with the wheel in place. Impossible to get out. So your wrong on that. You take the bots out for the bottom consol for the dash and remove the two 14 mm bolts the remove the bezel.

    would it have been easier to just remove the steering wheel?

    • @gatorlenta
      @gatorlenta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. It's easier this way, I think. You need a steering wheel puller and a large socket to remove the wheel, not to mention the air bag and all that related stuff.
