  • this is a terrible quality video on how to replace just the speedometer (not the cluster itself).
    usually you would replace the whole thing, but for some reason my brother wanted to use the cluster that came in the car. you need to know this anyway cause you'll have to take it apart to change the miles when you put your new one in. if you have any questions feel free to ask and if you have any requests post them. also, it is said that you can swap out the speedos from a cluster with a tach to a cluster that doesn't. ive never tried it so i don't know

    This is the BEST DAMN video I have seen on this car!!! Thank you!!! It helped get an idea before I tear mine apart! You explained everything I was wondering in my head before I found this video!!! A+

    thanks. My trip odometer busted as described. A new speedometer head $200 ++ and new dash panels more than our used cars... so got a Geo Prizm dash panel with gauges for $25. I did remove the face plates, putting my Corolla face on the Geo Prizm unit. Works great. ps removing the speedometer needle was a bit tricky. Several others posted youtubes helping through that puzzle. Thanks for reminder that NUMI assembled both makes, sharing many similar parts. Keep up good work!

    Thanks for a great video.
    A couple of further thoughts that might help.
    The cluster has three push in electrical plugs held in place by tabs on the top. I found it impossible to see them, but found them by feel. If they are held down the plugs will release.
    Fast forward to the speedo. I was unable to push the small cogs to the right as suggested. I removed a small "chrome" coloured fitting that holds the small cogs in line. I was still unable to turn the display. I released the axle holding the small cogs from the white frame on one side. This allowed me to turn the display.
    The whole thing went very smoothly and I'm greatfull for the help here.
    I now have a working speedo again.
    Good Luck Corolla owners.
    Tom

    hi there, i need some help please. I bought a CE100r and speedo does not work. the speedo is like the one on video but does not have that fuel indicator above near kmh/mph. it has an E38 (seems like part no) I bought an E37 one to replace the clear plastic. difference is E37 is petrol. quest1 how do I know if the gearbox sensor is not in order rather then speedo pls?

    Thank you for the video! You do fine work and you have a talent for explaining what you're doing in a way that is easy to understand.
    I have a 2001 Prizm, which is the same car as the Corolla. It has a 5 speed, manual transmission but no tachometer. I'm looking at installing a gauge box with a tachometer and I'm wondering if I will need to run any wires to the tachometer or if the wires are already installed. I'm also wondering if I can remove the original speedometer and install it in the new gauge box to keep the correct mileage.
    This is an 8th generation Corolla which has a digital odometer, but thankfully it still has a needle for the speedometer.

    • @Tylerstoyotas
      @Tylerstoyotas  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not too familiar with the 8th gens. That may be something you may want to just try out, or, head over to toyotanation.com and check out their 8th gen forum. There's lots of good info there on a lot of different things. I just know what 8th gen parts fit the 7th gen lol. Sorry

    Hola amigo, tengo un Geo Prizm 94 el problema no marca la velocidad y tampoco puedo poner en cero las millas yo lo desarme antes de ver este vídeo y me encontré con la misma pieza quebrada que sale al desmontar esa que tu muestras mi pregunta es sera ese el problema? pensé que era el sensor de velocidad pero ahora que miro tu vídeo pienso que puede ser esa pieza en un principio pensé que solo era para poner en cero el Kilometraje espero tu comentario gracias.

    I swapped my cluster and it doesn’t seem to be working. What should I do? I tried switching the light bulbs but no light and also none of the gauges seem to be working also.

    • @Tylerstoyotas
      @Tylerstoyotas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check your gauge fuse and your panel fuse in the fuse box in the drivers side kick panel. That’s the first step

    How do fix the 2nd meter at the bottom? The one that reads "000.0".

    • @Tylerstoyotas
      @Tylerstoyotas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can’t. You have to replace the entire speedometer assembly. The little plastic gears that operate the odometer (second meter you’re referring to) break causing it to be inoperable. The gauges in this car are non serviceable which is why parts replacement is your only solution.

  • @ZaGaZigZag
    @ZaGaZigZag 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    What if I removed some of the green paneling (after realizing I probably shouldn't. Will that mess it up? I was trying to do a fix I read about on another page, but didn't quite work out for me? If that would mess it up, can I just replace the whole Speedometer Cluster Unit and fix the mileage like you show on here?

    • @ZaGaZigZag
      @ZaGaZigZag 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, will a messed up speedometer cause the car to shift out of gear? (it's an automatic, so I'm not sure if that is the right terminology, but the needle on the speedometer is all over the place, or at zero, and the car doesn't respond to me hitting the gas pedal most of the time, it will go, and then not want to go, if that makes sense.)

    • @Tylerstoyotas
      @Tylerstoyotas  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, altering the "road map" (green thing) will damage the unit. Yes you can replace the whole cluster and change the mileage like I have done in the video. As for the speedometer not reading, sounds like the control head has gone bad so you'd be better off replacing the cluster anyway. Also, you'd know if the car came out of gear. Your speedometer and gear change aren't related

    My car is a corolla AE111 1997, can i tamper the odometer to the correct numbers ?

    • @Tylerstoyotas
      @Tylerstoyotas  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bobby Chakraborty that I couldn’t tell you. We unfortunately didn’t get the ae111 here in the USA

  • @Tylerstoyotas
    @Tylerstoyotas  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    yeah, just replace them with a junkyard unit. the 7th gen corollas are bad about the gauges breaking. if your gas gauge still doesnt work after that you most likely have a sending unit issue.

    • @Tylerstoyotas
      @Tylerstoyotas  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can sell you one with the mileage that you need. and also the trip gears breaking are a very common problem on this model. I've got a cluster with a tachometer for sale for $100 shipped

    Great vid thanks . How come the dial from the junk yard car had zero miles and looked brand new. I have the same prob. Just got a junk yard assembly with 232k miles and the broken original has only 126k miles . Is it possible to spin the dial past zero again and up to the 126k miles to match the actual milage .

    • @Tylerstoyotas
      @Tylerstoyotas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had set it to zero when I was playing with it earlier that day. And you can move the numbers in any direction. In the video you can see I just started at the first number and moved down the line. You can do that with yours as well regardless of what the current mileage is

  • @Tylerstoyotas

    i don't recommend doing that. after you tear it apart you'd have to have to have the speedometer re calibrated so its more trouble than its worth.

    SpacelyProductions yes the process should be the same. the only reason you would need to recalibrate it is if you take the needle off.
