    In this episode I cover how to build a mix template from scratch, which saves a ton of time when mixing. While this is created in Studio One, the basic principles apply to any DAW.
    0:00 - Intro
    0:20 - The Mix Buss
    1:33 - The ALL Channels
    2:47 - The Rest of the Template
    6:21 - Saving the Template
    6:43 - Importing Into a Session
    8:02 - Conclusion

    This is the best mix template I've seen on YT. Quick, on point, and very useful. Finally someone did this the right way. Congrats!

    I have had mix templates evolving over the last several years, as my skills and preferences grow. But I followed this yesterday and over the course of 3-4 hours I made my virtual studio come alive. I’m in logic, and many of the plugins are different, but maaaaan it paid off. Sounds better, everything funnels logically where it wants to go, and I’m using VCA’s for control and also visual separation. Thank you 3000, dude!

    I'm still learning the Studio One ropes so this was very helpful

    Thanks for turning me on to a practical use of a VCA in Studio One. Great video - I like your color coding scheme.

    Makes perfect sense when you look at how hardware is assigned in the studio with hardware for various types of projects

    Hey Joe! I've just made the jump to studio one because I've started using the Presonus iostation 24c which is great! This video has saved me a load of time in organising my template. Thank you once again for another top video 👍🏻

    Thats awesome Joe thank you so much! So good and simple! Do you add some process to the "all buses" ? I would love to see if you can make a video how to set the mix bus in depth. Thanks again!

      The all busses usually just have Slate VCC for console emulation. There will occasionally be a compressor on there, or sometimes the Black Box HG-2 on drums. Check out my video on Andrew Scheps mix buss processing for some starter ideas.

    Hi, Whenever i am trying to load my template into the project through "Import song Data" option.... It does not show my buses which i have created when i was making the template...

  • @hr2186
    @hr2186 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have more buses than I have tracks 😂. Good work 👍

    • @GreenLightSound
      @GreenLightSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My actual template is much bigger than this. I just bring in the parts I need for each session. Helps save time when mixing 100+ track sessions.

    • @hr2186
      @hr2186 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GreenLightSound ive never figured out why how anything could require 100+ tracks hahaha. Just my opinion of course but the best music is usually made with 4 to 16. (Nick Drake, Early Floyd, Early hip hop, Delta blues.)

      @@hr2186 I totally get it. I don't record that busy of a session, but a lot of artists/producers do. It's only when I'm working on someone else's production that I have that many tracks.

    Why do you use VCA?

    I've been trying to make a Template just as yours but I don't know why my Busses and VCA are not showing in the Arrangement Panel is it because I'm using a different Studio One Version.. can y'all guys please assist me

    I recently made a template (before watching your video) and love the idea of adding the VCAs. Great idea. I will update my template.
    Question: When I saved my template I actually had a typo when I named it and could not figure out how to rename the template to correct the typo. How do you actually rename a template if you wanted to rename it to some other name? Thanks and great video with great info. Thanks.

    • @GreenLightSound

      I would just open the template, save it under a different name as if it were a new template, and delete the misspelled file.

    • @uptownphotography
      @uptownphotography 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GreenLightSound That's what I actually wound up doing. Seems there should be a way in Studio One to rename, but maybe there's not...
      Thanks a lot for the reply.

    Aren't the VCAs (Vocal, Drum, ...) redundant with the faders of summing groups (ALL VOX, ALL DRUMS, ...) ?

    • @GreenLightSound
      @GreenLightSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not if I have processing on the ALL groups. The VCA can drive into a compressor, for example. It also helps with levels of send effects if they're not sent to the individual group busses.

    My template didn’t want to load 😢

  • @cedricmi
    @cedricmi ปีที่แล้ว

    Two issues with Import Song Data: 1. it doesn't load the Listen Bus settings, such as Inserts and Post; 2. It does not honor the order of channels. Therefore, I prefer creating a new song from template, then importing stems to be mixed.

  • @tri-unetrl3966
    @tri-unetrl3966 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why didn't you just add the song stems to the saved template???

  • @elzippo488
    @elzippo488 ปีที่แล้ว

    You didn't cover any track routing to this busses you created.

  • @woody6791
    @woody6791 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do actually have a question. When you import the template (song data+template+choose what you want to include) what about all the sends routing? It’s all gone. Any ways to keep the actual routing of the sends? Would that be better to import song files (stems) into a template instead?

    • @woody6791
      @woody6791 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and VCAs routing too
