      Absolutely. Joe is part of the reason I pull back on over processing and just get good takes. It's good to be reminded of that. Gregor gets straight to it and is concise and clear. Just what I need. Thanks guys. And a German client of mine taught me how to pronounce Gregor's last name!

    This has to be one of the best videos I've seen explaining these plug ins. I'm thankful I found out about Studio One. It comes with amazing plug ins. I originally started using Studio One because the MPC X is limited to the plug ins you can use. Using the Sound Toy plug ins my MPC software was overworked and would making pops and eventually crash.
    Since I've started using Studio One I've almost only been just using the stock plug ins. I was originally going to use Pro Tools because I've heard them a lot, but quickly changed my mind when I found out you could only use them as a subscription service. That ended up being a blessing because I love this platform.

    Gregor, thanks.........Great explanation and I use Fat Channel for so much, especially on my vocals and most of my bass guitar tracks. I have found just about the perfect settings for my particular voice on about 80% of my songs. You and Joe have really helped me over the past year or more with StudioOne Professional.

    I do like the Fat Channel, and I'm going to employ it on my next recording session after watching this video, however, Presonus really need to add auto gain makeup option to the compressors, at this point in plugin development that should really be a standard feature.

    Good day, Just to confirm, before I go ahead with S1+, It does include everything thing Presonus has to offer regards to their DAW and will get updated as soon as new plugins, loops, presets and sounds come in. appologies this is a silly question. The DAW I use now, or soon to be previous DAW😊 works a bit diffrent regards to updates and newly added content. I've watched now nearly over 100 videos on TH-cam to learn S1, think I'm ready to go all in.....😊

    I am subscribed to slate audios all access pass and I use their virtual mix rack. I actually never messed with the fat channel since I subbed to Slates stuff as soon as I got my sub to Studio One. I may not quit using the Virtual Mix rack from Slate all together but I certainly will give the Fat Channel a try on some of my tracks. Definitely a powerful tool for a built in feature.

      Its is a good idea to use less CPU Hungry effects for instruments and individual tracks and better plugins as VMR in busses and final tracks, stems, bounces etc...

    • @jedimindtrix2142
      @jedimindtrix2142 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trmus Right. The mix rack from slate is super CPU friendly. I generally will use it on my electronic drum track as I'm recording as it makes it really nice and crisp sounding. For the most part I keep the effects and plugins to a minimum until I'm ready for them. I also make sure to bounce my midi tracks to audio after I finalize the track so as to not have a bunch of midi plugins running as well. I have a pretty decent PC for what I do. Not top shelf but 16GB ram and I5 10th gen. For a laptop its a beast. Gonna put more ram in too.

    I think a good addition to the compressor would be the option to make the controls uniform while you toggle between the different models. In other words, being able to use the Tube, FET, etc. with the controls of Standard. It's not the most realistic thing in the world, but I would take function over realism. Also, a switchable analog-style gain reduction meter would be cool in case the bouncing blue ball is distracting to some people (myself included).
    Yes, this idea is ripped from the Logic Compressor plugin. It's the one thing I missed after switching to S1.

    I have a series 3 64s console, but all of the Fat channel plugins do not appear. Could do a video on that? Perhaps I don't have something properly set up at my end. Could we also get the console mixer to recognize the various console plugin add-ons that have been recently added. That would be fantastic.

    One thing I don't understand is the compressor key filter. The manual says it's a high pass filter but to me it sounds like a band pass filter, how come?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, the key filter is supposed to filter out frequencies that the Compressor should not react to. It's not actually applying the same kind of filter that, say, an Equalizer would. Hope this helps. -GBY

    • @warlanefam
      @warlanefam 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@presonus what I mean is: on the studio stock (the normal, seperate one, not in fat channel) compressor, the Sidechain filter can be set as high pass, band- or low pass. If I set it to high pass the compressor ignores everything below the cutoff, and if you activate the 'listen' button it also shows this curve in an analyser tool.
      If however, you do this in fat channel xt it shows a bell curve cutting both low and high frequencies. So I conclude from this, that the compressor reacts to this frequency span and is in fact not a high pass but a band pass.
      Am I wrong or are the 'listen' buttons just functioning differently on the normal compressor and the fat channel xt?

    Busy switching over to studio one from another DAW which gives me issues regards drop outs and cpu usgae since their last update although my PC specs is more than double they reccomend.
    Causing me embarissing moments with clients while recording.
    At the moment I go through all you videos even if they double to learn Studio one. I need to know at the moment if there is any gain reduction meter or indication while using the FAT channel. Using a basic vocal preset with the normal compressor. It sounds like it is working but I would like to see howe much gain reduction there is.
    When using the basic compressor on its own I can see some gain reduction.

The Plug-in will adapt its output routing automatically to the output configuration of the respective Mixer Channel.
