hello Ben i have one of these knives its in very good condition probably a 7 out of 10 ITS A SHUR-SNAP COLONIAL I WAS ALSO THINKING OF LISTING IT ON EBAY sorry 4 caps what would the retail price be ??? thank you
I also am addicted to that click sound when these type of knives spring open. It just makes me laugh when thinking how satisfying it is now yet it was a sound of dread back in the 1950s when wandering into a dark alley behind an Italian restaurant. 😎🤭
These type of switchblades was sold in every tourist trap shop in southern Europe back in the days, and usually with some kind of logo and transfer picture on the handle, like: "Mallorca" or "Barcelona" or whatever city or place you were visiting, I know because I bought one myself exactly like that one you got there, and it was printed with "Ibiza" under a little transfer picture with a palm tree on a beach on the handle, although I do not have it anymore as they're illegal now where I live in Northern Europe. They're basically crap and can't be used for anything but as a memorabilia, which I guess is exactly what they're intended to be. :) Not really a resto, but a nice clean up and I hope your friend is satisfied with the result. :)
A Good cleanup job, and those old switchblade knives are nice. I have one from 1968, when I purchased it in Stuttgart W. Germmany. while I was in the U.S. Army.
Just got a pen knife that looks like this but with mother of pearl the videos you do makes me want to do the same and make it new again so thank you so much 😆
Nice clean up. I have an Imperial Switchblade from the 40's or 50's that could use some TLC. Just a little nervous to break it down. Thanks for the video
Now just from watching this I think all I need is the bar or whatever it's called that pushes the blade up and out. I wish you were local I'd pay to have you fix and clean it up. It's actually in good shape. Has a light yellow? Color . Celluloid I think is the material. Thanks for video
Where can I buy pins/repair kits for these things? I have an old Othello switchblade that belonged to my grandfather with a broken spring (I'm guessing) and I really want to fix it
Hello there I've just found one the those at work in black its says inox on the blade it looks very old I've put some oil on the blade and the blade comes out very quickly now I'm a Swiss Army knife user don't know alot about those but I would love to know how old it is thanks for sharing this post with us👍
Inox is short for the French word Inoxydable which simply means stainless steel (won't oxidize). Rostfrei is German for rust free, also stainless. Many people, including me, thought this was a brand name.
You did a pretty good job on that knife I personally would have left the knife in some vinegar to help knock off some of the rust on the inside of the knife and the lock a bit but I always love you video keep up being the good person you are.
I actually just got one of these now . I paid only $15 but it doesn't work . The blade has a little play but locks when open. But it also closes with a snap. The button moves in and The safety moves fine. Overall, its a nice knife just wondering if I can fix this? I haven't watched your video yet just wanted to comment quick. Another thing, there is no bar on inside that I've seen on other automatic knives
nice job. "that sound" just about got a kid blasted one night. I'm at a urinal in a public restroom, and I hear "that sound" behind me, I pulled my pistol and whirled around ready to put somebody down.(in those days, it wasn't unusual for me to be attacked, but that's another long story) Some kid had one of those switchblade combs and was combing his hair in mirror. Ya shoulda seen his face when he saw my 45 pointed his way... I think he probably needed the toilet suddenly... lol. I holstered and explained about the sound about getting him killed.
Hearing a vaguely click-like sound and killing someone because of it..? None of that situation sounds very good at all. Maybe talk to someone about your PTSD or don't carry a gun around public.
@@SirKaldar I think you're missing my whole point. Pulling a gun on someone. To kill. A gun, because of a click. Fuck, am I the only one thrown off by this?
I just bought one of these in "chocolate swirl." It looks pretty rough! The button works good, the slide lock is good, but the spring is rusted and broken. Given your experience with not being able to "un-rivet" this knife, do you think replacing the tiny spring sliver is a possibility? When you said the pins were easy enough to push out and replace, where would one get the replacements, and what size to get? Thanks for the video! I am new to restoring and will use most of what you did on mine. Carry on!
What did you ever end up doing? I just bought an edge master (they must have been made at the same factory because they are mechanically identical) and also need to replace the spring. Thank you!!
The seer pin, or the hole in the blade where the seer pin sits are worn out and need replacing. Though maybe if you disassemble it, the pin can be bent towards the blade.
There are many different configurations but most are either one piece with the backspring or held in with a pin. In Hubertus style knives the spring is removable but unlikely to fall out. Your most likely broke.
Please do not use the word “restoration” for anything. It’s a clickbait. It’s a cleaning. And a poor cleaning, because you did not disassemble all parts and partly cleaned them all.
I found the right video, congratulations indeed 😁👏🏻 great work! I wanted to ask you if you could give me an idea of the life of the knife spring. I am near Maniago in Italy and I have some stilettos, I keep them with the blade out so as not to strain the spring. Could they last a few years? thank you so much!
The life of the spring varies greatly with the quality of the metal in the spring, how many times it is used, and the style of the knife. You can get 2 knives of the same mfg but one got a good batch of springs and the other not. Hubertus brand springs are doomed if they are not seated deeply in the handle. I have newer knives with broken springs and I have 100+ year old knives with strong springs. It is just luck. The way I figure, if the knife is over 50 years old, likely the spring is good forever as long as you don't play with the knife all day long.
That came out very nice. I grew up in the 50s and switch blades were very big back then, if you had one you were cool! Ciao.
I've sold quite a bit of these particular knives.
I sell Vintage knives for a living!
Thank you for what you do!

Wow! I have one just like this from my uncle. Can’t wait to try my hand at restoring it. Thanks!

Good to see you here man!
I really enjoy watching your channel. 👍👍
Beaufiful knife ! Different blade to the usual switchblade dagger
Dang night and day difrence. Cool seeing that blade fine back to life
Thanks 🙏
Very good restoration knife 👍👍👍👍🔪
You are awesome at what you do. Surprised that you don't have more followers. Keep up the great work!
Thanks 🙏
You should coat the blade in honing oil and add a drop to the pivot ✌
My dad has one that the spring doesn't work. Is it fixable?

Would you be willing to sell it?
That is a good knife a lot of history in it excellent restoration well done👍👍👍

Wow so interesting.
I really love these kinds of videos, glad I found your channel! #subbed
Great job man
i wish they made switchblades lik this these days ):
You got it looking damn good!

Illegal in some areas. Makes me wonder if I can put a spring in mine
Great work, where can o get the pins from? Thanks

Great video. Can you ask the owner if he would consider a trade or sell? Thank you
shut up
They are for sale, out there. This one would bring 90-140 today.
Badass..ready for a rumble
Lol 😂
Use distilled apple cider vinegar for rust removal but dont of do it tho as it could dry out gaskets and plastic if in to long

Mine won’t lock open, it just folds without any force at all. Any suggestions to strengthen the lock while it’s open?

That snap! satisfying..
Totally agree
Looks like you dented the bolsters when beating the pins out.
I think he could have done this without disassembly. But fun to watch.
anyone know what holds the spring in,,it fell out?
There are many different configurations but most are either one piece with the backspring or held in with a pin. In Hubertus style knives the spring is removable but unlikely to fall out. Your most likely broke.
It's nothing like a liner lock
You seriously couldn't figure out how to get those rivets apart?
Nice job, but tell your friend not to list it on Ebay as a switch blade knife. Call it a spring asist knife.
its not a sprig assist
@@piperbarlow1672 then Ebay will not allow it to be listed
nice

why would he sell that
Y not replace the plastic scales

That's the definition, of restoration.
Manr
Th rivets can be removed, with a drill.
I don't think he meant he couldn't remove them, I think he meant he didn't want to have to re-rivet them.

Never store any old school switchblade closed...this is what weakens them!
