- Sometimes it's good to have an extra horse!! Today, Baron is back to work in the woods, horse logging at Paul Smith's College in the Adirondacks! We are talking about the importance of having a back up horse who is in shape and ready to work if necessary. Baron did a great job at his first day back in the woods !
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Pg here, at the opening. May I suggest after taking off the horse blankets put one on the cart seat. You can keep it warm. Baron really seemed ready to Go. From far back. (Watching videos). The young horses seem to have a look on their faces, stances, trots, prances? Like a Jr. Varsity football player joining the varsity football Team. Put me in coach, put me in. They seem to love using their new muscles and putting their all into it. I Imagine they are seeing their maker, God, watching like a parent watching a child. The child performs for the parents. They can see beings, things we can not see. Remember the story where the donkey saw an angel ready to kill its master. The donkey saved his life. I just saw a husky save a neighborhood. He dug into the soil and found a gas line leak.
Baron just didn't happen to turn out the way he has. It was hours and hours of training. He'll be one of the best horses you've had! Great job and thanks for the videos!
Wow! You go, Baron!!!! His teacher should take a bow!! 😊 I love how I learn trivia during your chats with us! I didn't know that a ride in the trailer would consist of a workout! When I thought of it, I could see that it would be! Just a new wrinkle in my brain!! Lol!! Thanks for all you do! 💕
I love listening to you communicate with your animals. You treat each right.
Wow always look forward to your videos ❤best channel on TH-cam …….what an awesome team Bill and Baron !!! love Baron he is a special horse ,,you are so good with your horses really enjoy watching you work with them…..thank you for taking us with you today…..
When Jim says "wow", you know it means something.....
Baron is doing awesome! He sure does try hard. All of his training has sure paid off!
Baron is such a magnificent animal. But even better, he has the drive and confirmation to work. He really wants to do a job and make Jim proud. No question, there is a strong bond there and all the training is paying in dividends.
Baron is the “ Prince of Prance”!!!!! He is doing so well. Jim, I assume you have been around horses all you life and a “ Story Time of past horses and each of their personal habits, good and bad, would be an Awesome dinner table video!!!! I feel Baron, Duke and Earl may be some of your future “Best”!!!! Love your videos and God Bless!!!!
Wow!, I was hoping you would get 3k bdft., and Baron did it! that is a nice looking stage pile and so happy you have a nice snow base down and you will get some fresh snow to plane with your plow to fill in the divots, holes and spoil the log truck driver, 😅, I'm sure Brenda will appreciate that too, those little cars do amazingly well if you stay high and keep moving nice and easy as Brenda most certainly does. Thanks Jim, for the words and reasoning of wisdom, it is fun and interesting to hear how you ponder the past and fabricate the future, so neat to see Baron and Co. jogging to the finish line. I think it is so smart to pull smaller loads though you know they can handle more, less arthritis, tendonitis, and sickofpullitis,..building confidence and fundamentals with lighter weights starting creates better form, eliminating bad habits,, I am learning...great work, i noticed that log with the big base flare pulled such- that it skids without getting hung up and plowing..Good job, your Dad looking down smiling, good operation.
I better get over and see how Jay and Abby are doing.
Love from thigh deep big snow Alaska. Thank you
Well done. He continues to get better and better. Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
Mr. Jim Baron did better than expected because of how you have trained him. Haven't watched in a while so I habe to catch up.
Oh Jim I have been watching your channel a long time.
this video reminded me how I use to love watching Buck and Kenny in the woods. Buck was a great worker, a good horse, I miss him. Bill and Baron are doing a good job. You should be very proud of all you have accomplished.
You seem to be alone in the wood. Thank you for taking the time to change your camera placing to give us good angle of your horses and the job. Great video!👍
Thank you Jim. Wow the three of you did an amazing job.😊
I love the Woods with snow on the trees and the ground. Jim I love watching you log with your great draft horses. ❤
glad baron did so well for you
A sophomore starting on the A team. Great job to all of you!
I love that Baron! He's going to be a great horse!
It’s always a good feeling when you get more done more than you expected.
The B-team does it! Go Baron and Bill!❤
That "B" team might become the district's "A" team at next summer's horse pulls! If this is the first real day of Baron's working life, mature, heavy-shod, and now a gelding (a lot more directed and less distraction) then its just a beginning, only way to go from here is up. Some horse!
Riding a wagon pulled by beautiful horses amidst a winter wonderland is the bestest. Thank you for letting us know the reality.
Great job 👍
Good to hear Baron is turning into the kind of horse/team you want for your daily jobs around the farm.
Both are in real nice shape 👍
Jim I'm so proud of you still using your horses to log and do farm work it's just a pleasure to watch you on a daily basis along with your farm hand it's been a long time since I've watched anybody use workhorses
Absolutely beautiful scenery😊
Jim, thank you for educating us about horses and training.
Good job Baron and Bill, you guys rock. And thank you Jim for your explanations of logging with horses, I enjoy the education. ❤
You’ve put in TONS of training hours with Baron and he’s turned out tremendous Jim!! Which only makes me more excited to see how you will train up Duke and Earl to work as well as Baron and your other horses! You’re gonna have yourself one heck of a working stable of Draft Horses Jim!
I think I remember predicting that you would like Baren 1 day. Not that you've ever disliked him.
Good job Baron you're on your way to being a great horse.
I love this verything about Baron. He seems to be a sweet horse. Bill is a pro .. God bless.. Be safe❤
Baron is an awesome horse. AWESOME trainer too.
Between the long drive and filming its impressive how much logging you get done.
Congratulations Barron way to go you showed your Master Jim what a great horse you are!!!
Bill and Baron did a great job
Something about the kind and gentle nature of horses that people could all learn from
You oughta see some horses at the Ryan Rose channel. Those are the untrained ones, and you can get hurt very easily...
😄😇😊🤑🖐🐎🐴🦓🦄🍉🍞🥨🧀🍗🥩🍔🥐🍟🍕🍿🍜🍦🥧🍰🧁🔪☕🍪
@@pam8469 what you think humans are any different!, personally i fell safer around them, they dont kill, humans think its good to eat the flesh of a beast and drink its milk and your worryed about a horse standing on your foot because your not trained, no they have good harts thats why you can herd them pen them eat them and do what every we want too them because they have a good hart unlike humans who have weak harts from eating animals and normally die of a bad hart or cancer and whats with the pictures are you 5?
You have your own language with these beautiful boys
👍👍
Good Job Done By All Glad To See Baron Doing So Well Has And Awesome Team Leader I Can See By The Way You Don't Ever Ask Them To Do More Than Their Capable Of You Show Kindness And Respect For All of Them Kodos To You Jim You Have An Outstanding Horse Logging And Farming Stable Can't Wait To See What Happens When The Younger Horses Duke n Earl and Coming Up Behind Bree Hopefully She Turns Out To Be Like Her Mother Thanks For Sharing This Video With Us Blessings To Y'all And Please Be Safe ✌️
Awesome pictures of the horses and snow!!!
Thank you, Jim 😃 So good of you to share your experience with working with your boys 👍😃
Just lovely to watch you and your beautiful horses thanks.
I love Baron working at any job, but today he just excelled! Never thought last year that he would have come along so nicely to be a great work horse for you this logging season. When you put a great horse with a great trainer you really reap the rewards of your work. I hope things keep heading this way for Baron! 🥰
Bill is such a good horse very well mannered, and laid back. He is definitely your go to horse for training the young ones! I hope he'll continue to be able to work well into the future, maybe even be able to get more days off as the young ones get experienced in their jobs.
Wow...Baron was feeling his oats....'''I am still a stud dude..watch me go.''
Ah ha, that's funny,😅 yeah he likes to hustle. Good one
Love your videos and watching Jim working the horses on logging
👍
I watched the video again while at work and the B team Bill and Baron were so awesome yesterday. Baron will learn alot from Bill being in the woods logging. God bless you all as one of my coworker said I was funny to watch your channel. I said I have learned alot from you and Brenda watching all the farm work and all the animals. 🙏❤❤
Barons doing Great, be well and God bless,
I'm glad to see lovely Baron is true to the Suffolk trait of willing to work hard and all day, love that horse Linda 🇬🇧
This is our first winter in Nebraska. Can now imagine the weather you face every winter.
❤hi there thank you for your U tube video.l enjoy watching them.Bill and Baron r looking good. All of your horses are very cute.tc
Baron is really shaping up to be a great horse. He has been surprising you since the beginning. :) You may yet be the saving of that breed, as people see how well he and Duke and Earl do for you on a daily basis. Not only does he do everything you ask, he enjoys himself doing it.
Thanks for your videos. What a beautiful day . Go baron
Baron and Bill did a great job! Give them a treat!
Marvelous work. Good video Jim. your camera POV is great, sound perfect
Great job Baron and Bill. That last hitch, Jim, was the size of others you've pulled with older horses. Maybe Baron has graduated to that level of work. Sure is an enjoyable video. Thanks for sharing.
Omgosh!! He did a fantastic job! Beautiful time in the woods. Winter Wonderland
You need to give Baron more credit. He is maturing every day. When we see our animals daily we often do not see progress. They did great.
Jim sometimes being wrong can be a good thing, great job with the training. Those younger Suffolk's can be surprising.
Love the view from top of your trailer as you hook up your horses. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it.
That's great job Jim ❤❤❤
Another great video.bill and Barron just as you say just want to run.yes you got great production today.stay safe from Canada
Beautiful Winter Wonderland!!! 🥰❤️🙏❤️🐎🐎❤️🇨🇦🥶🥶🥶
Baron is curious, I like to see him inspect his environment by looking at and touching the trailer or his partner. Sign of intelligent! 😊
So impressed with the physical effort you both exert every day ❤❤ God bless you both.
Good video Jim, I always enjoy the logging videos
Good job with Baron n Bill I enjoyed the video.😊the horses are just wonderful.😊
You're a great teacher, Jim. Stay safe!
I have thought you have been underestimating Barron all along. I remember the first time i saw you pull hin,in the woods, he got down and was slipping all four feet. I made my wife watch it and i said, that horse will out pull every horse you have at 5 yr old.
Spare horses are a necessity no matter what in my world, whether it is a for-hire wagon or sleigh ride or logging, or farming, having a spare is make or break. I have 4 young ones I use and one aged mare who technically could be pressed into service, but I never do, she is enjoying 95% retirement at 27.
I never get close to 3000 lol, takes half the day staggering around in dense buckthorn and ravines and brush just felling. All the bush around here is way denser than and brushier steeper than what I see on youtube videos
👍👍Beautiful to watch the pulling strength of Bill and Baron 😃😃
Glad to see Baron really doing such a productive job!!! Blessings
soup and sandwich time !
excellent to see the camera view up high to the truck to see the full hookup in the beginning..liked that a lot,a little change.. was a wonderful day in the woods and the guys did great, yes Baron has good energy and ready for pleasing you. good old Billy boy puts up with a lot of his nudging and almost a nip..😅,,oh well,,it's the best of videos from east to west, what can we say?
( all wondered how you got that plowed out before starting) nice
🧐Prudent and pragmatic on your daily routine, like the where’s and whys concerning the horse’s ability etc Have great weekend Jim 👋
Awesome🙌🏼👍🏼👌🏼. I would say their speed and energy helped! Nice winter day for you, nice to have the snow❄️❄️seems like a nice temperature to work in😀This am we sat at - 37 c with the windchill making it -47c in central Alberta 🇨🇦. Formula: (-37 C x 9/5) + 32 = -34.6 F. Burrrrr cold 🥶🥶🥶🥶
Sometimes it makes you feel proud to be wrong! 👍😊👍
Great video this round. Thanks, again for making it.
Good video, be safe on the woods, God bless
Yeah, Jim, it looks like you. We're taking a little less few halls. But then you picked it up. And the guys also seemed like they had a pretty good step in your pace.
So they might have been making the trip in and out a little bit quicker. Then you were with lady and bill anyways good to see the progression
When you said it is Baron's 1st time up there on this job, I was surprised. I thought for sure he worked at Paul Smith's College some last year as Lady started her "maternity" leave in February of last year.❤ Wow, Baron and Bill came out of the "start gate" in a run! I think pretty boy, Baron, is happy to be back working!!❤ You all have a good weekend!!👋
Baron sure does a great job as a newbie in logging! Such energy he has and he's a good boy! I love watching the cutting, taking logs up to the landing and you showing us how much feet you brought on the landing. Good job!
Another great video. Must warn you we are under a blizzard warning here in northern Michigan. The storms usually head your way after us
With 22 degrees you do not need a coat. Good temperature.
Jim that good baron & bill pull good together for first day with baron . Tks a million for your time put out a great logging video Jim 😊. 3500 board / feet a day show up 🔝 at the end off a wk . 😊 white pine beautiful wood 🪵 mill Jim .
Good video be safe. It's Amazing how much they can pull!
I think those punch horses are going to work out well as logging horses. They seem to have a lot of energy.
Wow that's a lot of board feet and your team is strong.
My word...look at Baron do a great job today being his first time with a great teacher Bill. Jim your training your horse's is amazing and I'm so happy I found your channel through your Daughter Abby. God Bless the Gordon Family and keep you all safe 🙏 ❤️
`awesome job by both you and Baron, thanks Jim for another great logging video.
Jim, we want to see you Cold Start that Skid Steer!
great job with great horses.bravo
Big job for an old fella like you, Jim 😂
Magnifique 👍
Really cool video 😊
Baron is proving out to be something of a stud, it seems. That's a pretty good day's haul for any team in my (very) limited experience, which is limited to transporting loose hay. Three miles one-way, in some cases, with a few loads of heavy alfalfa bales tossed in for good measure. Baron's bfeed has earned my respect; hopefully Duke and Earl prove as useful as thier elder relative! (Grin) Good job on the video, as well and thanks for making them!
Love his coat Jim
Well I'll tell you Jim 3290 is nothing to feel bad about for sure. you should be happy. Back in the 70's when my brother in-law and I did lots. that was an average day for us (but he was in his mid 70's at the time also. and we skidded with a little case 310 dozer. which is not the fastest way yo move logs. so good show!. and thanks for sharing. ECF
Man, they were MOVING! Maybe the loads were a bit lighter, but I'd say each load came through a lot quicker.
Baron is like "Let's get this show on the road!". Bill is not as staid as Lady but works at her level, also able to rise to Baron's energy level while at the same time managing to keep the whole show somewhat steady.
Greetings from Australia.
They must have had a good lunch.
Your lucky with the weather in Alberta,Canada were I am it’s -55 with the wind chill.
It is so pretty
Very enjoyable video
Good job Baron
