    We really are living in the Golden era of retro gaming handhelds. Never have we been so spoiled for choice with actually decent quality products that still are relatively affordable.

    Black Seraph saved this handheld from obscurity and mediocrity. I've been loving playing Xenogears for the first time. It actually got me away from persona five on my steam deck. Loving it.

      It's in that ff7 era where it's 2D sprites in 3d environments. It's held up pretty good and so far it runs well enhanced so clean up the 3d. I'm hoping eventually I get strong enough to beat up giant robots with my fists and not need the gundam.

    I was looking into the RG353M, but I like the price point of the XX, as well as my intended purpose for a device would be to just enjoy at home or even during my travels. I think this video definitely solidified my choice; great content and you've got yourself another sub!

    BEST.INTRO.EVER. Part of me wants to tell you that you're putting too much work into your videos but you're just so good at it! Nice job 🙂 As for this device, to me, there's nothing about it that really sets it apart from other devices. I have a RG353M for bringing with me around town and this would be a step down from that in every way -albeit a much cheaper option to be sure. I'm sure it definitely fits in a lot of people's use case scenario but that's what's great about this market. If you look around carefully, you'll find a device for every single, possibility! I just bought a Powkiddy RGB10S just because I wanted a perfect GBA device to bring with me (basically to play Metroid Fusion).

      @TechDweeb  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Haha thanks buddy :D
      Yeah you're not wrong. It's not super unique or anything. I think the main draw is the price tbh. It's a really solid quality device for the price. Shame that it's not just a LITTLE bit more pocket friendly, that would have made it a no brainer. As it is now it's just another good choice.

    • @brz757
      @brz757 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This thing was specifically targeted for PS1 and below. There are stronger devices for later systems but I absolutely love the aesthetic of this thing when playing 32 and 16 bit and eight bit systems. Joysticks and more power would just muddy its laser focus.

      The Miyoo+ won't be in consumer hands until May-June. Their pathetically small inventory was already drained by resellers. Miyoo are not a legit or serious company, Anbernic will have 2-3 more small form handhelds available by the time Miyoo Mini+ is available

    Bought it right away when it got out. The original firmware wasn't terrible, but it looked very basic so I replaced it with garlic os once it was available. The only small problem is that menu button working very... inconsistent at times, that makes saving the game with hotkeys pretty difficult. But you can save state from ra menu anyway so.. as I said, small issue

    About HDMI audio: Make sure you plug the HDMI dongle in while in the GarlicOS menu, and same for unplugging it. Essentially don't plug or unplug the dongle while inside a game. RetroArch reacts toxic to hot-plugging sound cards. I bet that's why you had audio issues.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for commenting! I read that note about HDMI audio in your update notes, so I tested it thoroughly.
      - Booting with the HDMI attached (like I showed in the video)
      - Plugging in the HDMI at the main Garlic menu
      - Plugging in after game is loaded
      The HDMI audio doesn't work for me no matter what I do. I have only tested with this dongle though, I don't have a mini hdmi cord. However audio did work using the dongle with the sock OS.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the Mame2003-Xtreme core (your default Arcade core). When I load up my roms separately in Retroarch using the FBA core they work fine. And this same rom set does work fine in Mame2003Xtreme (and plus) on the Miyoo Mini. It could be my rom set, not sure where I picked this one up, but I've been using it for a while and it works in 2003Plus cores on other devices.
      ALSO, while I have you, one feature of the stock OS that Anbernic did that I thought was actually a great idea is to have a separate "Vertical" instance of the arcade system, so that you didn't have to go through the gauntlet of adjusting the screen & controls on a per-game basis, just load up your vertical games from the vertical version of Arcade. I might be alone in this but I think that's a very useful feature.
      Thanks for your AMAZING work you legend 😎

    I think this might have been why your HDMI sound wasn't working. This is one of black-seraphs updates from Jan 25:

    But watching what you did in the video, it looked like you had it connected the whole time but there was a transition in there so idk if you unplugged it at some point causing it to give you issues. Maybe plugging it in before you boot causes it? Maybe the dongle was the issue? Either way, great video. I love the device too and every update from black-seraph makes it feel better and better.

      The Mini + looks like the superior device, but there is no guarantee that they will be able to keep up with the supply issues, or unforeseen issues with the quality, and the final price.
