      I've already seen the reseller pre-order prices. The Anbernic 35xx is way cheaper and it also has overclock on Garlic OS to perform better on harder to run PS1 games. For the price they are asking, it's better to buy any of the cheaper Anbernic RG351 devices because there price is that close and those 351 devices have 1GB of RAM and have a more powerful chip which will not have problem playing PS1 games and have joysticks which is pretty good with ports and Scumvvv games.

    • @Lucifronz
      @Lucifronz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does seem the more appealing option in many regards. The wifi option would be nice, but for me, it's not essential. I spend a lot of time playing these devices near my PC where I don't mind popping an SD card into an adapter and fiddling with some stuff, as I already have to do it sometimes for my 3DS systems or to move over some screenshots from my Switch. What's one more device to have to do that with, really?
      The small benefits of the shoulder buttons and the d-pad don't really make up for how... well... kinda ugly the Miyoo Mini Plus is. It's not bad, but something about the placement of those Start and Select buttons rubs me the wrong way and I wouldn't mind something a bit larger for more space for my hands and it just looks better overall. Some portability *is* nice, but it's not everything, as I'm not even intent on playing this outside of the house a whole lot (though the option is always great!).

    As a small hint, I used bulk rename utility to remove the first 4 ("001 ", "002 ") or first 3 ("01 ", "02 ") digits of the names on the SD card to make it sort alphabetically, it also helped as some of the included software were duplicates and couldn't be renamed so I knew which ones to clear.

    A little story to help people who may have some issues with the RG35XX. Quick Note: Check HDMI port for integrity when you receive the device. When I received mine, I didn't have a Mini HDMI cable or adapter so I didn't think about the port at all. It would turn out that my port had one bent pin inside, which wasn't an issue until I finally acquired a cord and plugged it into the port. The pin would bend and my audio output wouldn't operate. After removing the cord, my device would not output audio to the speaker after that, despite working fine otherwise. I think, based on my single anecdotal experience, that the ports themselves are not super great. It does work, but I wouldn't overlook it as a potential cause for issues. I was able to remove the audio pin and it still works to output video. IMHO the resolution on a larger screen is so bad, I will probably just disable the port and plug it up. Speaking of which, if someone wants to 3D print some port covers for these bad boys, I'd be happy to be the first customer.

      @Marcus Griffin absolutely. One of the first things I did was crack mine open, blow out the hair (yeah it had some hair inside), and then add some buffer to stop the rattling shoulder buttons. Everything looked good on my board otherwise but I hadn't thought to investigate inside the port.

    Excellent comparison! I ended up changing my KeepRetro order from the Miyoo Mini+ to the RG35XX because I like the slightly larger size and really want HDMI out, now I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed that Garlic OS or MinUI eventually implements correct aspect ratios for HDMI out across all systems.

    • @aared
      @aared ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just a heads up that I mentioned in my own comment, I could not get my 35XX HDMI working reliably with Garlic (I didn't try on stock). It would cut out, sometimes not have audio, and also had issues when connecting a Bluetooth controller through an 8bitdo adapter. If it works for you then great! but personally I wouldn't recommend it for this purpose.
      I got a used Retroid Pocket 2+ for HDMI out, and as a bonus it connects directly with Bluetooth controllers. It does run Android rather than Linux, but I prefer that in most cases anyway. The RG353 series also has HDMI out, but had severe issues when I tried pairing Bluetooth controllers (couldn't find some, couldn't stay connected to them, only worked in Android but wouldn't work in Linux, including the custom firmwares that it could dual boot)

    • @bear532
      @bear532 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, I don’t see the appeal for either device. The 35xx has a lackluster battery life and its power management software is faulty in that it drains the battery even when the device is off. The miyoo mini + has no rtc. They also don’t have the charm of the original miyoo mini of being super portable. Personally, if I was in the market for a small vertical handheld I would just save some more money and get the 353vs or 353v. The 353v is very slightly larger than the 35xx, however it has no issues that are present in either the 35xx or miyoo. Great screen, good battery life, hdmi out, wifi, rtc, and analog sticks just in case. I just don’t get why you’d choose a miyoo plus or 35xx over the 353v unless you were so tight on cash that you couldn’t make a choice or you’re simply a collector. If I was in the market for a very portable handheld right now I’d just go with the 280v.

    • @aared
      @aared ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bear532 I find the larger Anbernics to be clunkier, the MM is extremely comfortable. Plus I personally don't like how they look, but the appeal of vertical Android does intrigue me
      The MM doesn't have RTC but it's emulators do seem to enable time passing. The GB/GBC emulator generates an RTC file and seems to track time using that, and in GBA I can verify time does pass unlike on the TrimUI S that I own. Technically neither of those are actually in real time, but time does pass

      its just not the same to play these old games emulated on a new big hd tv or monitor on a keyboard/mouse or even a new bluetooth controller. Getting to play them again on these handhelds with their old school colour schemes, button layouts, really brings back that old feeling of the old gameboy/gamegear, and even the feeling of using an old crt tv with a controller. with the added benefit of better brightness, colour, sharpness etc of modern screen technology.
      been thinking of buying oe of these for my friends kid when he gets a little older, and give his dad a collection of games to gradually give him over time to replicate the feeling we would have all had in the past of being able to get new games as they came out. as i think the only thig that can "break" the experience of these handhelds, is if you fill them with every game ever, you're spoilt for choice, you wont get into a game as much as if you know its the only game you have to play. so self limiting is a good idea. like putting mega man one on, and only put mega man 2 on once you finish number one and also play a different game. something like that.

Really like my RG35XX, GarlicOS is must for me on it, but hope it gets better, now is in the state that I prefer older version of it (broken DOSBox audio, no save states for GB/GBC ROMs). I think the features between the 2 seem pretty well balanced;each have their tradeoffs. Netplay on the Mini would be great but only if it's perfect. 2 player local over hdmi with 2 controllers should be possible on the 35XX but would need a lot of setup. I think the biggest deal breaker will be how available the Miyoo Mini+ is; if scalpers buy them all up and leave people refreshing aliexpress pages at 3am then it may be passed on by many people.

    Best comparison you can get for these two. I've been enjoying a RG35XX for a couple weeks but then I step into a good deal for the MM+. Waiting for it to arrive, and then I'll decide which way to go. For the 35XX I'd prefer MinUI because GarlicOS felt a bit too much tinkering-required, but I miss all the boxart. Because of that, how robust and stable OnionOS looks, in addition to the Wi-fi capabilities, sound very appealing to me.

      @@Steven-ol7wv I'll finally keep the RG35XX and give the MM+ to a friend. It is a very close race because both are too similar in terms of supported systems and ergonomics, but I have some motives.
      I tried OnionOS and although it feels more "mature" than GarlicOS, it doesn't feel enough "plug & play" to me. I don't have a problem playing with the configuration at an initial stage, but with Onion/Garlic it seems that every now and then I would have to re-adjust some settings for a particular game. Besides, this few weeks with MinUI made me feel really comfortable with its shortcuts systems, specially for applying fast forwards and save/load states in almost a compulsive way. Anyway, I can confirm that OnionOS is an awesome custom firmware if you don't mind the "fine-tuning" process. The only thing I miss from Onion/Garlic is the themes and the boxart while browsing games. It's a big loss.
      Talking about sound there's no debate: the RG speaker is way better than the MM+ one. The latter tends to sound saturated and distorted even with not-so-high volumes.
      About the ergonimics and although they are pretty similar, I'm grateful for the extra

    Now this a tough question for me. I don’t own either device but I’m somewhat familiar with custom firmware. I do like how the miyoo mini has wifi as well as nice ergonomics and options for tweaking the settings and performance, but at the same time I also like the simplicity of garlic os on the 35xx as well as its availability and options of under or overclocking. I also like how the 35xx can display boxart for games but potentially having retro achievements on the miyoo mini also sounds cool. I think I’m leaning more towards the 35xx but may favor the mm+ if it gets even better

    • @bear532
      @bear532 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been obsessed with these handhelds now for over month. Personally, I don’t see the appeal for either device. They are no longer mini like the original miyoo mini. The reason people love that handheld is because of how incredibly portable it is. These devices though are not like that. Yes, they’re portable, but not so portable you forget it’s in your pocket. The 35xx has a 3hr battery life in real world use and its battery management software drains the battery when off. So even if you fully charge it, it will be dead in a few days even if you don’t use it. That to me is an instant deal breaker and frankly an unfinished product. The miyoo mini + has no rtc. I could overlook this if it was the same size as the original mini, but there’s other options so why should I?
      I think if anyone is looking at these, they’re much better served by saving some more money and going with the 353vs or 353v. It’s very slightly larger than the 35xx (closer to its size than the 35xx is to the miyoo mini plus). It performs better and has none of the issues mentioned before. It’s a no brainer for me. Or even the 351p is a great alternative. Even the 280v if you’re looking for ultra portability.

      @flare0152 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bear532 he also reviewed those, and I kinda agree with what he said. The analog sticks and shoulder buttons make it look uncomfortable to use on games like ps1. I personally don’t have a problem with the size of the mm+ or 35xx, I think it’s better for people with bigger hands, and you can technically underclock the 35xx to extend battery life for certain games. I already have an odin, steam deck and pc to play anything beyond ps1, and these would make great console companions. Not something to use for too long but all the same nice to have if you already have something more powerful for more demanding games

      I don't own either. I'm considering one. I think for me, the thing with Miyoo, is just the community stuff. The original Miyoo had such a big community of fans that made all kinds of stuff for it. 3D printed cases, shells, and grips. More updated custom OS stuff, more fan-made themes and whatnot.
      The Anbernic is neat, and honestly, pretty much just a Miyoo clone with a different OS. But, it's also just an Anbernic. Not to say Anbernic is bad, most of their handhelds are perfectly fine, at least nowadays. But, Anbernic releases SO many handhelds. It's "just another Anbernic handheld". Neat, but....meh. I don't know. Something about buying an Anbernic just feels weird to me. Like, I could buy the newest handheld they make right now, and within a month or two, there'd probably be another one out.
      The Miyoo almost feels a bit "special" in that regard. The original one sold out so quick that it was super hard to even get your hands on one unless you wanted to pay like 2-3x the normal price. Mix that with the community stuff, and I THINK I'll probably go with a Miyoo. But, still gonna compare 'em just in case.
      I personally own a Retroid Pocket 2+, and while I absolutely love the thing, I kinda want that nostalgia and feel of an old school vertical handheld. Plus, the Retroid runs full Android, as opposed to it's own OS. Good for the fact that it has the play store, and you can download frontends from it, and even play some Android games. But on the other hand, it doesn't give me that sense of being a game console like a Miyoo would. It just ends up feeling like I'm using a low-powered cell phone with a controller attached.

    A few thoughts on both devices:
    I have both the mini + and rg35xx and I have to say that the color calibration is way better on the rg35xx. even with the possibility to adjust the settings on the mini+ I can't get it like the rg35xx.
    Mini+:
    + easy removable battery
    + onion os is fully loaded with features
    + better battery life (2600mAh vs 3000mAh)
    + easy to install ports to play for example doom or diablo 1
    + better ingame overlays: no fade in for fps like anbernic
    + easy installation, just drag and drop onion
    + little bit better build quality
    + wifi: netplay and retro archievements
    Anbernic:
    + more comfortable to hold
    + garlic os short press shutdown
    + better and brighter screen, fits better my taste even after calibration on miyoo
    + led light not so annoying
    + 'cleaner' ui
    + more powerful in case you want to try out n64 games and e.g. fast forward is faster : pokemon rubin: 120-140 (miyoo) vs 150 fps up to 185 with overclocking (++)
    + feels a litte lighter in my hands
    + overclocking (see above)
    + i like the buttons and the d-pad more despite beeing not so accurate
    + better headphone jack: my in ears are louder
    + better fast scroll through game lists imho
    + hdmi out + controller support: so at least in theory you can use it like a home console with a tv and two external controllers for example
    + better boxart positioning
    One thing I'm not sure: on rg35xx I just needed to drag and drop all rom folders and they show up. on miyoo i first had to figure out the shortcuts of the systems and enable the emulators in the package manager.
