Amiga, been glued to Putty most recently, played some Turrican, Magic Pockets, Lotus, and Rick Dangerous, once I get my head around multi disk games I'll venture onto even more... Battery life is very good, sound is OK, will try get a matt screen protector as I think the one that comes with it is too reflective, fine indoors but annoying when outside...
@@MikBaa Battery life, honestly, is super dependent on what you're playing. Like, playing a PS1 game will drain the battery way quicker than playing a Game Boy game. It drains pretty dang quick if you're playing a ton of PS1. But, it's also not a massive issue. It's not like it dies in a matter of 10 minutes or anything. And yeah, I have to get me a matte screen protector too. I actually don't MIND it being shiny, I can usually just angle it a tad if the reflection's bad. But, the screen protector mine came with was ever so slightly damaged. Like, such a tiny thing I didn't even notice at first. There's the tiniest little mark on the very edge of the screen protector, which leaves a tiny bubble I can't get rid of. And, seeing as I need a new one anyway, might as well try to find a matte one. Lemme know if you find something good that's the right size. Also, I don't know if you did or not. But I don't really recommend using the SD Card the Miyoo comes with. You really don't wanna cheap out when it comes to storage, and the cards (yes, multiple, because I swear, every unboxing I've seen of the Miyoo has come with a different card. I got a 128gb Samsung card on Amazon for $11. --- You're never gonna be DONE setting up your Miyoo. It's a common issue with most people that get into emulators and emulator handhelds. You'll end up spending more time getting your rom lists organized with everything you want, adding screenshots and box art images, adjusting settings to make games look and play how you want. In my case, I have a ton of rom hacks, so I'm actually making custom box art for 'em in Photoshop. Along with making the occasional custom image border/overlay, to make some of my handheld systems look nicer.

I just bought a 35xx because I’ve personally never cared about video game achievements so I’m not missing much, plus I think the slightly bigger device will be better for me. But they both seem great. There isn’t really one clear “winner” with no wrong option. But I will say, the reported screen falling out issues was the deciding factor for me. It has wifi, cool, but how great is that wifi if the device is falling apart after having it for a few months or a year. I didnt want to risk it
Agreed... It's definitely swings and roundabouts. There were reports of screens dropping out of the miyoo, but also screens breaking on the RG35XX, but with how many were sold, it's definitely in the minority.
One thing I wish the Miyoo had....or more specifically, something I wish OnionOS had... I wish I could make more than one Favorites folder. Maybe even have one per-console, and have the favorites section pop up in the actual game section. So, I click Game Boy, and at the top is a button to only show your favorites in that section. Rather than just having all my favorites dumped together in a big pile.
This was the best review yet on this system, I think it beats the Ambernic because same screen quality, is more compact, and "MORE BATTERY LIFE". Also, this was the first review I learned you could turn off the GBA and NES weird filters. Awesome work :)

They both have their own audience, and for someone who wants to play Amiga, the RG35XX doesn't tick that box. Not even for the easiest to run games. "comes with garbage microSD" is an important comment. It makes the system seem like garbage in performance, so getting a good quality SD card and making this thing your own is super important, and the difference is night and day.
When i installed onion os, i had to go and turn on recents and change the power button press to standby so it can shut down with long press like the stock os did.
I like the Miyoo Mini Plus, something about it. But, I prefer the better screen and the build quality of the RG35XX. It has less issues too. I had to use the parts of two pluses to get a good one. QC is not the same as Anbernic unfortunately.
The miyoo mini we had last year had a bit of a different display, but that was probably due to the shortage of that size of display. Tbh I feel that sometimes anbernic do a good job with the hardware, then the bare minimum for the software... The RG552 was shocking for example. But yeah I doubt any of these handhelds will have first party level QC... No way ... Unfortunately 😕
Amiga Games for Me are the Most essential...... I hope it runs these smoothly: Ruff N Tumble, Gods, Superfrog, Alien Breed 2 Special Edition, Pinball Fantasies, Zool 2, Hired Guns, The Chaos Engine 1 and 2, Shadow Fighter, Elf Mania, Apprentice, Turrican 1,2 and 3, Elf (Ocean), Project X, Battle Squadron, Shadow Of The Beast 3, Now I wish it would run AGA games like: Banshee, Slam Tilt Pinball, Pinball Illusions, Fightin Spirit, (dont care for AGA versions of: Chaos Engine 1, or 2, Zool 2, and anything else as they are usually WORSE and fake extra colors added literally to just the background)
Miyoo mini+ is around $89 where's I live. RG35XX is around $50 (got mine for $43.36) 40 bucks different is too much for me to justify buying Miyoo mini+.
It depends on what you want. MM+ is smaller and the buttons are generall considered to be a bit better. The Dpad is a crapload better, but it could potentially be fixed with a mod for the RG35XX. For the rest they are mostly equal, but the MM+ seems to slightly edge out the RG35XX in most ways... but... there could be minor issues with the build quality, such as the screen not being entirely flatly inserted or even a loose screen at times. Not sure how rare they are, but it doesn't seem to be all that uncommon. The RG35XX is actually a bit more powerful, so if you're speeding up games like PS1 games you'll gain significantly more extra speed in turbo mode than the MM+. Ultimately it depends on what you want more. I'm happy with my MM+ but I paid less than you.
I just got one for playing Pico8 games and was sadly disappointed that it doesn't have native support like many of the Ambernic machines. Other than that though it's a great bit of kit for the price.

Mine doesn't take 15 seconds to turn on. Closer to 8-10 or so. But I did replace the SD card and switched to Onion OS. Anyhow, everyone should replace the SD card as soon as possible. The thing is trash and it'll corrupt in no time.
RGB20s powkiddy has the same price of both and much better performance, plus, 2 analogues. Runs a lot of PSP, Dreamcast very well and NDS easily. I was playing PES 2014 PSP and runs perfectly.

@@JohnnyProctor9 I have both and tend to reach for the RG for most things. I wish it had WiFi just for OTA updates but it's really a nothing burger. Both great devices to be sure. The Dpad is a little better on the Miyoo for some specific game styles. You'd have to make the determination for yourself though. I personally find the display on the RG a more pleasant colour temp but Onion 4.2 has yet to come out of beta so I'm sure they'll fix that.
@@kaiserkreb - I'd really just like to find an affordable handheld that could use wi-fi for multiplayer, otherwise my hacked Evercade does the job and the carts can at least be played multiplayer of the VS. I also have a Steam Deck, but could never afford a second one for multiplayer having to settle instead for playing multiplayer Steam games on my laptop with it. I also have GBA SPs with link cables, but unfortunately not in the best shape after all these years and not sure if getting flash carts for them would be the best solution.

Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS all day over the RG35XX. To me, it's all about software. I first had the RG35XX and put in Garlic OS and it was basic. Did the job. But I liked Onion OS more with its features that really unlocked the Miyoo Mini Plus.
Batocera, currently in beta, arrives on RG35XX and risks hurting Onion Os on this kind of device. With new systems that the miyoo mini cannot run, superb ergonomics and management of the Os. Also a strong community. I'm happy to own one. It's going to be great 👍
@@budgetking2591 I use a 3D printed gripcase on my Miyoo Mini Plus. Made it much more comfortable. Comfort is also subjective as I didn't find the RG35XX comfortable at all. The back part and the L+R triggers are bothersome to me.

@@Cujobob I did take a long look at the Analogue Pocket but in the end decided it wasn't for me. The price for the systems it can play is far too much. Even if it were capable of more systems the lack of buttons on the handheld is a big issue. Sure you can pair a controller when docked but at that point it isn't a handheld any longer.

NONE of the review channels have done a review of company support. I bought an Anbernic 250m a couple years ago and the power button broke. I tried to contact them to even try and get the part to fix it. NO response. I want to buy another device, but have no idea which company will back their product properly.
They mostly go for the short term sale. It's probably safer to think of that's where you save the cash and not expect any company support - most of the support comes from the community anyway! Jelos, Onion OS and Garlic OS are great examples of that. ... Saying that, Retroid via discord have sent out replacement parts, they're much smaller than the likes of Anbernic and Powkiddy, but they seem to be the company that want to help their customers- they've even had OTA firmware updates.
It seems that in the RG35XX vs Mini+, the winner is RG353PS. Price is not much higher (at least to EU if you include tax+shipping) but it’s more powerful, has better build quality, better ergonomics, ArkOS ready with optimised gaming performance…
I saw on Anerbnic's site it has bluetooth too but I've yet to see someone comment on whether it actually works. If you have the 353PS, can you please tell me whether it works with BT headphones well?
That GB four button setup is bad. It should have come with 6 buttons so it could cover all the basic console variations and support 6 button fighting game franchises Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Even if you discount those, the Genesis/Mega Drive games will be annoying to play with 2 buttons in alignment rather than three in a row.
@@TeamPandory Not any I know off personally, but then again official handhelds aren't trying to emulate other consoles besides the Switch and 3DS via their eShop games. It just seems odd to me design wise when systems like the Genesis etc will be emulated via it. But sure, it will rock if you're only playing: NES / SNES/ Game Gear / Master System / Gameboy ROMS.
@@ReinMixTape so here's the thing... Megadrive games are traditionally only 3 button, there aren't many games that support 6 button. There's street fighter which is originally an arcade game. It works in the arcade is because you use an arcade stick and the buttons are easier to quickly tap and locate. Near enough all ports to consoles use four front buttons and the shoulder buttons, which became the standard way to play fighters on a console or handheld. Sure it's not the same as the megadrive controller, but it is what it is, and before 6 front facing buttons happens I'd rather see a megadrive style dpad on a handheld :-)
I got my mm+ i like it but the ps1 games are rubbish and only 24 games, unfortunately resident evil not included. So i recommend rg35xx has better ps1 games and more than 24

Nope, not enough juice. You'll probably want a Retroid Pocket 3+ or something like that. My Anbernic RG351p can play DS games though, but the experience is hit or miss, because no touch screen lol.

Remember the Devs are very approachable... Why not pop in a ticket into the onionos GitHub - they may be able to make it a thing.
The main reason I've choose this one is because of the much better d pad which is the most important for these devices😊

Looks decent, but I could essentially do all this minus the wi-fi on my hacked Evercade...are you going to make a separate video on what you can do with the wi-fi? Does the Anbernic RH35XX have wi-fi?
Yeah wouldn't surprise me, but I think the onionos experience really works to this handheld's strengths.

@@kaiserkreb - So I'd likely pick up a couple of Miyoo Mini Plus units if the wi-fi turns out to be useful, it's cheaper than two Analogue Pockets.
@@JohnnyProctor9 I have both and tend to reach for the RG for most things. I wish it had WiFi just for OTA updates but it's really a nothing burger. Both great devices to be sure. The Dpad is a little better on the Miyoo for some specific game styles. You'd have to make the determination for yourself though. I personally find the display on the RG a more pleasant colour temp but Onion 4.2 has yet to come out of beta so I'm sure they'll fix that.
@@kaiserkreb - I'd really just like to find an affordable handheld that could use wi-fi for multiplayer, otherwise my hacked Evercade does the job and the carts can at least be played multiplayer of the VS. I also have a Steam Deck, but could never afford a second one for multiplayer having to settle instead for playing multiplayer Steam games on my laptop with it. I also have GBA SPs with link cables, but unfortunately not in the best shape after all these years and not sure if getting flash carts for them would be the best solution.
How did you get bomberman 94? Was it in the stock games that came with the card? I can’t find it in my miyoo mini plus and really loved that game as a kid

Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS all day over the RG35XX. To me, it's all about software.
I first had the RG35XX and put in Garlic OS and it was basic. Did the job. But I liked Onion OS more with its features that really unlocked the Miyoo Mini Plus.
wish the mini plus was as comfortable as the RG35XX, comfort is a big thing.
Batocera, currently in beta, arrives on RG35XX and risks hurting Onion Os on this kind of device.
With new systems that the miyoo mini cannot run, superb ergonomics and management of the Os. Also a strong community. I'm happy to own one.

@@budgetking2591 I use a 3D printed gripcase on my Miyoo Mini Plus. Made it much more comfortable.
Comfort is also subjective as I didn't find the RG35XX comfortable at all. The back part and the L+R triggers are bothersome to me.
@@MrNestaya Batocera Lite will surely unlock the potential of the RG35XX. But at the moment, Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS IMO is still the superior device.

both DESPERATELY need 3rd party LINUX/FLOSS software to operate properly, but its just about STREAMLINED UI/UX, not about retrogaming PERFORMANCE.
while MM+ charge you $25 MORE for worse speaker, worse screen, worse ergonomic, worse internal chip, and no GPU to potentially unlocked.
is there any REAL SOLID PROVE that onion could unlock anything SUBSTANTIAL in retrogaming performance aspect from this particular MM+ device? because we all knew that every 3rd party LINUX/FLOSS always do the same MAGNIFICENT upgrade for ANY of chaynese handheld emulators.
I've always wanted one of these vertical handhelds because I love the OG Gameboy formfactor but when seeing a video of people actually using them it looks so cramped to play.

Analogue makes a handheld you might like, but it’s on a long preorder. It’s an FPGA emulation device so it’s a bit different.
@@Cujobob I did take a long look at the Analogue Pocket but in the end decided it wasn't for me.
The price for the systems it can play is far too much. Even if it were capable of more systems the lack of buttons on the handheld is a big issue. Sure you can pair a controller when docked but at that point it isn't a handheld any longer.
@@voteDC yeah. It’s a bit limited in what systems it can do because it’s emulating the hardware, not the software. FPGA emulation is my personal preference, but I enjoy all of it really. I hear where you’re coming from.

After debating all week just chose the plus over RG35, which heard there's no onion OS. Plus PS1s games don't run great.
Ps1 games are okay on both... With custom cfw 😂.
Personally I prefer the miyoo mini due to Amiga games and... I ruined my RG35XX screen

Mini+, but that's because we want to play Amiga... And it seems a bit more polished when it comes to the firmware... But this is TBC :-)

NONE of the review channels have done a review of company support. I bought an Anbernic 250m a couple years ago and the power button broke. I tried to contact them to even try and get the part to fix it. NO response. I want to buy another device, but have no idea which company will back their product properly.
They mostly go for the short term sale. It's probably safer to think of that's where you save the cash and not expect any company support - most of the support comes from the community anyway! Jelos, Onion OS and Garlic OS are great examples of that.
... Saying that, Retroid via discord have sent out replacement parts, they're much smaller than the likes of Anbernic and Powkiddy, but they seem to be the company that want to help their customers- they've even had OTA firmware updates.
Retroid has good aftersales.
Does rg35xx have doom ? Pre-installed? Doom 2?

It seems that in the RG35XX vs Mini+, the winner is RG353PS. Price is not much higher (at least to EU if you include tax+shipping) but it’s more powerful, has better build quality, better ergonomics, ArkOS ready with optimised gaming performance…
I saw on Anerbnic's site it has bluetooth too but I've yet to see someone comment on whether it actually works. If you have the 353PS, can you please tell me whether it works with BT headphones well?

You can do that. Have OnionOS on one MicroSD, and stock on another. They will both work

That GB four button setup is bad. It should have come with 6 buttons so it could cover all the basic console variations and support 6 button fighting game franchises Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Even if you discount those, the Genesis/Mega Drive games will be annoying to play with 2 buttons in alignment rather than three in a row.

@@TeamPandory Not any I know off personally, but then again official handhelds aren't trying to emulate other consoles besides the Switch and 3DS via their eShop games.
It just seems odd to me design wise when systems like the Genesis etc will be emulated via it.
But sure, it will rock if you're only playing: NES / SNES/ Game Gear / Master System / Gameboy ROMS.
@@ReinMixTape so here's the thing... Megadrive games are traditionally only 3 button, there aren't many games that support 6 button.
There's street fighter which is originally an arcade game. It works in the arcade is because you use an arcade stick and the buttons are easier to quickly tap and locate. Near enough all ports to consoles use four front buttons and the shoulder buttons, which became the standard way to play fighters on a console or handheld.
Sure it's not the same as the megadrive controller, but it is what it is, and before 6 front facing buttons happens I'd rather see a megadrive style dpad on a handheld :-)

I got my mm+ i like it but the ps1 games are rubbish and only 24 games, unfortunately resident evil not included. So i recommend rg35xx has better ps1 games and more than 24
... you could also add the games you want. It's pretty easy to flip games in and out.

@@angelheart7643Easy to change games? Yes. The reason I used onion was for some fixes, but Amiga and the other emulators are only really available with that custom os. Including Amiga

Nope, not enough juice. You'll probably want a Retroid Pocket 3+ or something like that. My Anbernic RG351p can play DS games though, but the experience is hit or miss, because no touch screen lol.
