Stop feeling guilty - the truth is you made an offer based upon condition of the car and the state of the second-hand market at the time. His pain with his loss is his pain not yours! I believe you been professional and appropriate. Great insights in to the working day of a mechanic on the road. Keep them coming
Cheers mate 👍
Business is business, lose no sleep over it,life goes on.
100%
No need to feel guilty you offered him a price, you could have just said you weren’t interested. He chose not to sell to you as he wanted more money, he should put on eBay or sell privately, will probably get less money than you offered.
Great channel keep up the great content
Thank you 👍
Love the channel!!! I appreciate the time you take to film and then the additional time to edit and upload it all. I know it can be very difficult
Thank you 🤝
I’m loving it great content really enjoy it
Thank you 👍
well done mate bloody hard pleaseing all to bloody old myself 35 years in the moter trade keep up the good work
Thank you mate 👍🏼
Great mix of content, thanks. Looks like a bit of venting from the guy selling Dad’s car, it’s never easy dealing with the loss of a significant family member, no fault by you though. Loved the “that’s now a firm brake peddle” as your foot sinks almost to the floor, lol. Very generous lending the Transit van. Looks like you may have some other horse power at home, other than the cars?
Thanks, hahaha it was firm but I think the lack of brake shoes just made it travel a bit more 😅 that’s what mates are for right? And I’m not quite sure what you mean there?
First time here subscribed and liked 👍.
Great content 👌 enjoyed the video 👌👍💯 keep up the good work and don't take any notice of some idiots 😅 if they want top money for their banger they should know the route to take without being rude to others irrelevant to their circumstances.
Wishing you the very best of luck 💯👍
Welcome aboard, thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍
Wish I could come and work for you mate. I’m a roadside technician, working for one of the big clubs. Lots of diagnostic work but people always want there vehicles recovered to garages. Love repairing vehicles on the roadside, trouble is im to far away from you. You need to expand your business further a field 😂😂 Great work as always mate 👍🏼
Know how you feel from my days on the AA, haha you never know mate, Kerbside could be nationwide one day 😅
What years did you work for the AA?
I left the AA 3 years ago, and worked for them for 3 years mate
Those A3 rear washer nozzles are notorious. They scale up in no time. If they block they can cause issues with the motor too. My solution is take the nozzle off, drop in a glass of white vinegar. Microwave in 10 second bursts until the vinegar bubbles. “Ream” out any debris with 15 amp fuse wire. Seems to work and lasts a while.
Nice tip 👍
Another great video, really enjoy your weekly video’s. One thing though, I’ve been a self employed mechanic for years and we all have look after ourselves ! Perhaps the use of some axle stands especially when your on your own. Each to there own, but sure we have all had jacks started to leak and go down.. keep up the good work 👍
Cheers dude 👍 yeah generally speaking if I’m not going underneath the car I don’t use them, will always use them if going under, bad habit I know 😅
No need to feel guilty - it is his laziness. Block and buy elsewhere. Thanks for the videos, Sue 👍👍
He’d already blocked me by the time I went to reply to his last text 😂🤷🏻♂️ thanks for watching Sue
New subscriber 👍 and no it's not your fault tbh they should took offer a couple months ago.dont feel bad mate.
Welcome to the channel 👍
Diesel heater hooked up to the coolent system, then the engine is warm too so your not getting blasted with cold air on start up.
Plan would be to T off the heater hose into the cabin through a small hole 😅
@kerbsidemobilemechanic far better to pick one of the standard systems, either through the ventilation system or through the coolent system. Stick to one of thoes set ups and then your guaranteed to have warranty with it and for it to work as designed. Obviously you know what your doing, there's no question there, but when you start deviating from the design and functionality of a product it tends not to end well.
I get what you are saying but don’t think it’s quite possible without a lot of trouble the way you are suggesting, it’ll start getting warmer out and won’t need the heater anyway 😂😂
When you say "Eddie Inn", do you mean "editing" ?
Depends on what part of the country you are from hey 😂
Hi to be fair I would have said no to £4,500 and stick with £4000, buying cars of any type keep the price right and stick with it , and learn by your mistakes along the way, we are all human, keep the good work up mate 👍.
Fair point you make there mate
Had a brake job yesterday last nite and the pad carrier bolts first with a bit of persuasion come off the top one was not budging sprayed it put heat on it and no go and ended up worse case rounded the torx bolt ffs nightmare
A simple job turning into a pain in the arse 😂
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic definately he gonna get new bolt and get mate at garage to get it off and replace with new bolt then gonna get me to finish brakes and discs brembo ones.
Quality parts, good man 👍
Don't let it get to you mate that was below the belt ...you have nothing to be guilty about .
🙂👍
He should off taken £4000 when you offered so don't worry about it mate. I'm a 15:38 Gardner and sometimes get fussy people who wants me do work for nowt!
It’s still there too 😂😂
Kerby will you do a review of the many scan tools you do? which you recommend a home owner to get to simple diagnosis, reset things etc etc?
Sure, I’ve got a few so will show you guys some that I have
Subscribed 👍fantastic channel mate
Appreciate it 👍
A3 track rod end £20 max , hours labour max ... less than £100 all in.
Not far off at’ll, cant get my head around it 🤯
great content found the link from Marvelous Lara
Thank you 👍🏼
Keep us updated about the murano its the same bearing as my G37
Will do, meant to be doing it this week, shouldn’t be too difficult, famous last words 😂😂
@kerbsidemobilemechanic yeah they are bolt on hub bearing style so no pressing required just got to be careful with abs sensor and make sure back plate goes back on right way up🤣
Well that would be annoying 😂
Corsa will probably be the relay in the body control unit
Turns out was some wiring damaged in the end, appears that someone’s been there before
no matter the story the market and the price is the price, to put it bluntly, also regardless of how many months its been
Tough but true I’d say
Market has had it ATM. Take no notice
It really had, sales are so slow
Subscribed mate 🎉😅, keep up the hard work. You are definitely an inspiration. I want to start being mobile soon. Would love to pick your brain on a few things 😂
Thanks man, sure anytime, give me a message over on insta 👍
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic oh thank you 😊
But are you sure you wanna see my ugly face 🤔 😅 will message you in a bit
Hi kerbside, i have a question for you.....
Would you rather be at a dealership? You spoke about vw in the video, what made you go mobile instead of looking for interviews at dealerships? Great videos as always 👌
No, I started out at VW but in the end hated it, I’d never work for a main dealer ever again, after the AA I did get a job back at another VW but they let me down before starting and that’s why I’m mobile, I’ll do doing a video on it soon
@kerbsidemobilemechanic your doing well and it shows
Thanks Gary, appreciate it mate
No Sir not at all take care😊
👍
Mate, a few words of warning on hiring another mechanic, from bitter personal experience. That person will be the front of your business, share the same ethics and work standards. I'm sure you are aware of that anyway, but finding another you, is nigh on impossible.
Yeah deffo aware and that’s quite scary tbh but I’m sure the right person will come along eventually, may have to go through a few first
No. Don’t feel guilty. The guys circumstances shouldnt affect your business. I think £4k for a car that’s worth 6k when you put time money and labour into it to get it right, was a fair price. Some people want top dollar for bottom quality items. Had he not pissed about over 500 quid, he would have the money by now. Not your fault he waited 2 months to chase you up.
This seems to be the general consensos, thanks 👍🏼
Can you show us how you jack car's up and support them safely whilst working mobile not every customer has hard standing ground would help us new mobile mechanics 👍
Yes sure, I’ll try to remember 👍
As has been said already, business is business and the person in question is trying to use emotional blackmail to gain an advantage. Seriously, don't sweat over it as the majority of your customers will be decent, honest people like you. I would try and keep the car repairs and car sales businesses separate; you focus on the mechanics and let your colleague deal with all car sales enquiries. Too many fingers in too many pies will only result in loss of productivity and increased stress levels. Consider outsourcing your video editing to a specialist and use a virtual telephone answering service to field your calls. Have one time 'window' in the morning and another in the afternoon, when you call / text customers. Finally, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the positive advice 👍🏼
Does the top scan work on Hyundai electric variants??
Yes I believe so 👍
Have you ever done timing chain replacement on n14 mini cooper s? Mini not liked by most mechanics
I haven’t no, normally I send all my timing chain work to my mate as he’s specialises in them
New subscriber here 😂
Welcome aboard 👍
Life does not stop because somebodys father passed away - you can’t be expected to pay more than a cars value just to appease somebody wanting to sell a car. It is what it is let them try and sell it elsewhere an good luck to them.
Thank you 🤝
Topman thank you 👌👌
Don't let him make you feel guilty you wasn't aware of his news and you certainly haven't done anything wrong mate your doing great 👍
Nice one Matt 👍
Everybody thinks what they own and what they have for sale is worth a fortune and its not.
Too true 👍
No guilt if he is that sentimental about it he should get the work done and keep it plus you need to make some profit from the deal
It’s business at the end of the day
You don't owe the guy anything. I've recently sold a car under similar circumstances and didn't expect anything extra from any prospective buyers. Poor show on his part.
Thank you 👍
No, you should not feel guilty at all. The guy is grieving but thats no excuse for his rudeness. Just ignore and get on with life!!
Nice one 👍🏼
Alternatively you can do the same with a fuel pump, just don’t run it too long out of liquid or you’ll burn the motor up. I know you know that but maybe someone will use the advice in the comments
At what point are you talking about mate?
Apologies, when you were doing the start motor test.@@kerbsidemobilemechanic
Ah I see yes can do it to test that too 👍
Don't let him lay a guilt trip on you . If he just wanted rid of the car it would have already been sold , or Meybee he's just a greedy shit .
Haha maybe
I cannot understand why you even think you should possibly feel guilty. Ignore his comments and carry on with a clear conscience.
Thank you 👍
you look familiar to ewan Mcgregor under certain conditions 🤔🤔
I’ll take that….I guess 😂
Engine font just blow up.iam sure their were maintenance reasons
Yeah prior to him buying it I believe was used as a courier van, so you can only imagine the service intervals
No, you should not feel guilty. At the time you gave a quote however, no written agreement was given. While, it's an upsetting moment for the Wife/Son, he should not be using emotional blackmail to make you feel bad. Walk away and take it from there.
Exactly what I done mate 👍
The guy selling the car was a bell end plain and simple. His circumstances are irrelevant. Its worth very little what he wants for it is neither here nor there. You did nothing wrong made a fair offer to buy or fix you had no obligation to do either.
Yeah I think everyone pretty much has said the same
No guilt.
Thank you 👍🏼
Tell him to take the engine to where Rob and Chris from salvage rebuilds got theirs fixed. Its called pheonix motor engineering in romford. I think they do recon engines do if you take yours they will swap it for one theyve built. if you search on youtube salvage rebuilds ford engine you will find the video
Nice one mate, yeah I’ve seen their videos, great pair of guys ain’t they
yep! the engine place is great too haha@@kerbsidemobilemechanic
Thanks will pass on the message to him 👍
A. Car is worth a set amount it doesn't matter whats happened its only worth that amount end of. Not your problem if the guy didn't deal with it sooner. Not being able to replace an indicator bulb seems just stupidly wasteful
👍
Not your fault the father passed, the car price then and now is what it is don't let his guilt trip trick bother you
Cheers mate
The guy with the car you made an offer on was not your fault. He is pulling the classic "guilt trip for a better deal" on you. He wouldnt get away with that at a dealership so he shouldnt get away with it doing it to you. Stick to your guns and do what is best for you and your business. It seems a little heartless but we have bills to pay just like everyone else.
Thanks mate 👍
Kerbie, do not feel guilty about the car..............maybe just tell it to people how it is, with a smile and a joke even if needs be. Warn people of how fraught & precarious second-hand car sales are........just hold your hands up & say yes, it's like the horse-trading of old, it's a tuff game, people loose money, prices fluctuate, there are sharks out there, I might be one of them but hey, that's just the nature of it! That way Kerbie no one can accuse you of being duplicitous or dodgy, but no, don't feel guilty about it. I do think it's scandalous though how much cars depreciate & how, when we're encouraged to recycle a 15p plastic bag in order to save the poxy planet, we're not encouraged to keep our cars on the road, to maintain them, learn about them, look after them etc etc. Past governments have even brought in 'scrappage schemes' to get perfectly good cars off the road & destroyed......but this is an entirely separate point & going off on a tangent.
Always try to be as open and honest as possible mate, best policy!
In my mind the only thing you did wrong was get personal with the customer saying ‘ don’t get techy’ other than that you ain’t the only dealer in town .
Yeah I agree, caught me at a bad time as shouldn’t have said that but 🤷🏻♂️
"Walk away Renee" Move on.
👍
He had two months to get prices from any where. No need to feel guilty
Thank you 👍
Don't beat yourself up about the man's father and the car you where not to know and he shouldn't put a guilt trip on you to get more money for a car.
Thanks mate 👍
U shouldn’t feel guilty but you did make the offer to buy and not get back to him not really best practice from a business point 😎✌️
Yeah I agree, that’s the bit I felt guilty about, but I was just so stressed before Xmas so it wasn’t at the top of my priority list I guess 👍
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic hay mate we can’t get them all right I think you taking it to much too heart because off the dead father! It’s not our job to know the story behind the vehicle we’re mechanics not shrinks! 😂😂 go easy fella 🫡
kerbie nothing worse than doing cars in cold weather get the people to drop their cars that are running to your unit the ones not running trcover them raeier for you
Yeah I find myself doing that more and more, getting spoiled having the ramp 😅
PK lol 😅
😂
Try going to we buy any car and asking them to honour a quotation 8 weeks down the line 😂
14 days if you're lucky
He's just a chancer, he sadly/understandably let sentimental value get in the way and its bit him in the arse. Its not your fault at all, you're running a business, sympathy wont pay the bills!
That’s fair I’d say
he's playing the dead dad card lol... its means so much to him that he wants to squeez every peny out of it.... f that guy and you did nothing wrong mate. i get he is sad but its not your fault that HE wants to be like that
Yeah I do feel sorry for him but these things happen with cars
i sound harsh but lets be hoonest. he probably tried to sell it elsewhere and couldn't. then got frustrated when your offer was no longer as high. if it was worth what he wanted he would have sold it. Failing that, more fool him for not trrying to sell it sooner.@@kerbsidemobilemechanic
Yeah I can only be fair and offer what the current trade price is, it also needed a fair bit of work to get through an MOT
dnt you dare feel guilty, not your fault lad, where abouts are you based
Thank you, down in Buckinghamshire
Whats it to do about about someone being dead ffs. its a car the prices have droped ? its easy Yes or a No the owner knows the value and knows want he wants for it.
Exactly
no
No?
You are not a charity the guy is not worth worrying over
Thank you 👍
There's always time limits on any quote also if he was so upset about his father's car why did he not get it MOT and keep it no he was using his father's passing to guilt you in to paying for a car you did not really want
My thoughts exactly
