Thanks MItch for stopping by the Avid booth! I’m excited to see more ARA apps being implemented inside PT! These features speed up workflow and productivity. Also, nice MIDI updates! +1 in hopes that hardware delay compensation will eventually be automatically calculated in a future update. Keep up the great work, Avid!
It’s cool that they’re adding features, I just wish that they’d fix the current issues. For instance, in a project (not session) if you collaborate on a project and you add even a single marker, it deletes all other markers for every other person on the project… rendering using “projects” useless for post. This is one of many issues I wish they’d fix before adding more features.

its been the authority on audio for years. it was never geared towards production. they are trying to bring more producers to pro tools and its necessary for them now.
Yes and no. I think there was a very clear need and use case for loop record to playlists for audio when it was introduced, but the same feature in MIDI was/is far less valuable. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cool feature, but when you can manipulate every aspect of a performance after the fact with zero loss in quality-as you can with MIDI-being able to loop record it seems like a justifiably low priority. And, realistically, how many people that actually use MIDI today have a need to capture and comp the actual nuances of what they’re performing in? I think 99% of MIDI is getting quantized 100%. Haha EDIT: You’ve always been able to record MIDI while looping a section of your session, just like you would in an MPC or other DAW. “Loop Record” in PT refers to a specific record behavior for audio, mainly used to easily generate takes for comping. …just in case that’s causing some confusing here.
@@jonautry I was about to mention what you said when you edited. I used to always quantize my midi, but I usually don't anymore. If I do, it's minimal. I think MIDI comping works great, you can do it in Logic Pro.

Drag and drop session audio to a sampler is fucking huge-and of course, long overdue. But better late than never, I say. Just got Studio One 7 pro. $20 a month for full access to all Studio One plugins, updates and upgrades. Protools Pro is $100 a month. Studio One 7 and other DAWs such as Cubase and Logic have the same features as the new ProTools for a fraction of the price. So why bother with Protools…?
because people think protools is better, its not, and more importantly: many studios use it, so they can "talk together" with their "projects". That saves time. And as many studios stupidly enough spend so much money in PT they are reluctant to change. And their client expect them to have it. For non-studio owners there is no reason to use it unless you have a lot of money or just like it. I think its ok. Super slow and resource hungry, so I will never use it in my little studio, but if you love it for what it is, and have the hardware to run it, its not the worst.
