  • We'll be talking more about survival gear in this episode of Backcountry College. Although most survival situations will be over well before you might need one, a snare may come in very handy if you find yourself stranded in the wilderness for an extended time. Here we'll take a look at how to make and set a survival snare. More at www.backcountryhunters.org

You know, snares never sag if they're loaded properly. A loaded cable will also close 10 times faster & smoother. A professional snare lock will also help to close the loop faster. Some people do like to setup on a deer trail but when I snare hogs, I NEVER do and I use Deer stops anyway. I make all my own snares but I just do it a bit differently.
    Nice video though...

+Hog Hunting and Survival Yep, snarelocks are nice. I just wanted to show what you can do with some supplies from the local hardware store.

I used to snare a lot of rabbits. the best way to measure the loop for me was put the loop around my first and 2 fingers of the ground. feed myself a lot on rabbit, hares & pheasants back then.

Wouldn't putting a loop on the tag end of the cable make it easier to attach paracord

I made these following your instructions. And they work GREAT! Thank you.

How long of cable per snare? Also how are you attaching paracord to the cable to secure the snare from being lost? Thanks

Don't think it matters, it will just make your tag end longer or shorter
