    I would like to see a “pattern hacking” video, like how to adjust a pattern if you have a large bust but small waist or how to mix and match patterns or a dress that’s as far from the original pattern as possible while still having the essence…using your patterns of course!

    • @nyphira
      @nyphira ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yes i would love this. She had a small bust and makes these dresses based on that. But i have a big bust so it doesn’t work

    • @nikitatavernitilitvynova
      @nikitatavernitilitvynova ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Now I've never made a standard pattern myself but I did some research. And it's a whole art in itself called grafting. Where you make math calculations that are very specific to ensure size consistency. So I think this pattern should fit bigger busted people unless you have a big chest but have a smaller build/weight. Since most weights are kind of proportional aka you usually have a bigger chest if you're heavier and if you're skinny you usually have a small chest like me I'd say the pattern should work. If not I'd tell you to try taking measurements of your body like bust, waist, hips, and the distance between those. And then add the length of each piece together without the seam allowence and see the difference. Basically measure the waist across the front and back and see the difference. Once you know the exact measurement you can evenly spread that across. Like 1 piece for the front and two for the back? Divide the difference by two and for the front divide that further by two. But for the back divide it by four since that's the amount of seam allowences required. And add those measurements to the edges and connect the points. For this pattern in particular I haven't seen all the pieces. But if they're anywhere similar to mine (I made a similar bodice but with straps that tie into a bow instead of sleeves) you should be able to find the diagonal line going from the nipple point all the way to the middle of the beginning of the sleeve strap. Connect that point and then cut the pattern and spread it a couple of cms making sure to extend the bottom curve to ensure enough space for the rouching part so it has room to puff. It's kind of the same thing you do for puff sleeves basically. Hope this helps coming from a fellow fashion designer. I'm a design student at the university of Genova, Italy with a passion in sewing so technically I earned that title.

      I usually mark off which sizes work for my measurements (as I also have a small waist and large bust despite a generally small build) and then use a ruler to trace between them to create a custom size for myself!

    I am still working on this but still want to say ahead of time- I LOVE how you're honest about the ballpark level of experience on these. 8months ago I wasted a LOT of time on a project from a different pattern artist wondering if there was something wrong with me. It was flared, had gathered gore sections(the dress was 7 sections all around from top to bottom, not including the gores) separate hip flare flaps for embellishing the gores, boning, invisible zipper, fully lined, with separate add-on bow-tie embellishments.
    It was labeled 'beginner'. I was heartbroken that I couldn't figure it out. Having learned more since then, I've found that for reasons beyond my understanding, it seems like a lot of online pattern sellers do that- call complicated patterns(fully lined gores with embellishment, bows, gathers, *boning*?!) 'beginner'. I dont know if theyre really that shortsighted or what but its quite disheartening for the beginner sewist.
    Anyway. Watching this vid I really appreciate style B being referred to as intermediate to advanced, and the first one as 'determined beginner'. Its so much more honest about what to expect. Thank you!

    I'm new to sewing clothes. I'm wanting to make doll dresses mainly, which I am aware is going to be very different but I was hoping I could learn different techniques to make them. I'm making collectible dolls, not play dolls, but I want durable clothes for them. And if I could learn to make clothes for people I'd love to make my own clothes, and clothes for my kid.
