    Hey sewing pals :) Today I'll be showing you my entire process for creating the final project for my Couture Sewing Independent Studies Class. I'll be vlogging everything: inspiration, sketches, draping, prototyping, beading, and the final construction. And of course I will be showing you some couture sewing techniques and couture sewing resources along the way! Let me know what you thought of my final dress:)
    Love you all!

    This is literally the wedding dress I tried finding years ago when I was engaged. I love bias cuts from the 30s so much. This is gorgeous.

  • @emorysumi
    @emorysumi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    just want to say a couple of things:
    1) the way you padded the the dress form is very professional.
    2) if you do decide to drape in bias, which would be totally amazing, pre-drape overnight the whole piece of muslin AND final fabric before draping or cutting, this is to stablise the fabric.
    3) you can cut a strip of 3/8" organza on the straight grain and enclose it within a french seam to stablise it.
    4) Bravo on the video and the dress, both are very well done. Hope to see this as a series.

    This garment is absolutely stunning, it totally reminds me of some dresses from the 1920s. I've been getting into sewing the past few months and the work you show on your tik Tok and youtube have been hugely inspiring for me. I also love that you've shown parts of your garments that you would like to improve on, sewing can get discouraging when you feel like you only make mistakes lol it's nice to know people who have years of experience also are constantly learning. I'm just a beginner, but this video has definitely inspired me to look into tambour beading, hopefully you'll incorporate it into some of your future videos. Also, I want to thank you for all of the resources you post with your videos they're a huge help in getting started learning new techniques.

    I clicked because I've become infatuated with tambour embroidery this year. And I wanted to see how you were going to implement it into your dress. I think that you did a good job. And the parts that you didn't end up liking well you can look at it as a learning experience. The fabric, design and tambour embroidery were all great decisions though.

    When you cut out silk satins and charmousse, etc, trace your patten pieces layout on to one sheet of patten paper then sandwich your
    Fabric between two pieces of paper , with the traced out one on the top. Pin where necessary, this is the way we have always cut out “slippery” fabrics, and helps prevent fabric movement. Hope this tip helps

    When hand sewing set 3-4 stitches and then pull the thread through, if the thread satarts to twist then put your needlle in the Loop and guide the thread so it doesn't knot. You will find that hand sewing goes much faster than pulling the thread through after each stitch. You can set more stitches at a time, but they are often less even .
    Good luck with your future.

    This is a great video! I clicked on it because I was searching tambour beading and yours came up. I've always loved fashion and I dream of sewing my own clothes one day (just bought myself a sewing machine). But I'm clueless about techniques and working with the grain etc. I absolutely loved how you pass on the tips that you get at design school, like moving the fabric. I also love how you show having to redo things because like a real.human being you make mistakes. This video is so informative and entertaining, and I really enjoyed watching the whole design process from start to finish. Thank you so much for sharing. I will be subscribing and checking out all your other videos so keep those tips and tricks coming. Please. ❤

    Thank you for documenting your process! It’s really great to watch. Quick note that with hand sewing, using a thimble on your middle finger and pushing the needle through with this finger will speed up your sewing. Also having the fabric in your non dominant hand with the seam on your non dominant side so that you can more quickly sew by pushing the needle in with your dominant hand and stitching down the seam toward you.
