They could all sing and lead the songs. These are the OG's. Every group tried to be like the Temptations. I saw them preform Live in concert at the Los Angeles Forum in the late 60's. Me and my cousins Temptation Walked all the way home. They used to do a dance called the Temptation Walk in their performances, Bye the way, you mixed up Otis and Melvin. Melvin was on the left end with the deep voice. Racism was strong when they were around. They couldn't stay in the same hotels eat in the same restaurants or use the same bathrooms as the white entertainers and they could only stay in colored facilities. You should watch the Temptation movie.

Do you guys truly believe that these middle age black people don't know about the Temptations or every other legendary black musician they've supposedly never heard?? C'mon i'm younger but still me, my family and everyone I know have heard all the black legendary musicians they've reacted to.
@@Tino44954 .. I'm 57 and when I was growing up, all my friends were listening to Rush, Yes, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, AC/DC etc etc. I was already the 'black sheep' of my family, but I was also a 'black sheep' among my friends when it came to music .. Boy the razzing I got for being a huge Neil Diamond (it was all good tho!) and classic country fan. The question I have asked a few of these reactors is .. Do they continue to listen to the same music they grew up with ( just to keep up with the Jones and because that's what all their friends are listening to) or have they gone musically rogue playing a lot of the singers/groups they have reacted to? .. I never seem to get a answer.
Temps are among the GOAT when it comes to 60s groups. They were always so great to hear!! Just about anything on Motown is fabulous, maybe most especially, the GOAT among girl groups -- The Supremes. Very large, very entertaining catalogue of songs. My favorite is the studio version of My World Is Empty Without You. There are also a few songs with both The Temps & The Supremes, the best being (IMHO) I'm Gonna Make You Love Me. Great stuff throughout the Motown rabbit hole. You should definitely take the plunge.
They are the benchmark for group choreography. Since then other groups have tried their format but I think New Edition took it to another level. Try reacting to "You're Not My Kinda Girl" and you will see what I mean.
Story time!! Years ago I went to see the Temps at a festival here where I live. The concert took place outside, but the stage was covered and protected from the weather, Black clouds started rolling in, (it was July) and just as they started this song the sky literally opened up! It was the COOLEST THING EVER! But the best part was , NOBODY left. Everyone, all colors, shapes and sizes just partied and danced in the rain. Peace love and harmonies. Never forget it!
When I was in high school (I am 72 now), I could not wait for the next Motown release. Such class acts, dressed to the nines , and the best dance moves! There will never be another Motown!😪
Do yourselves a favor and react to David Ruffin's "Walk Away From Love." It's an emotional storm. Genius vocals from David. One of the best soul singers who ever lived.
The songwriter who wrote "I Wish I Would Rain" was in an uproar of emotion. His girl broke his heart and soul and about a month before the Temptations recorded it, he was found dead. So once they got the news, they recorded it in tribute to the songwriter. Great song.
The lyricist (Rodger Penzabene) was alive and at the recording session according to a DJ who was there. Penzabene committed suicide a week after the single's release.
@@BradLovett This was part of a trilogy that Penzabene Co wrote about his heartbreak over his wife cheating on him. The other songs were "You're my everything" and " I could never love another ( after loving you)". This was the final song in the trilogy and as you pointed out Penzabene committed suicide shortly after its release. This was also David Ruffin's Swan song with the Temptations. He would be fired shortly after its release.
@@JPMM316 Both of the others are great songs too. I grew up with CKLW which emphasized a lot of Motown. I never made the connection between "You're My Everything" and Penzabene's struggle.
@@BradLovett Something occured to me as I was reading your reply. If you listen to those songs they get progressively sadder. "You're my everything" is a straight up love ballad, then "I could never love another" is him pleading with her to stay ,finally "I wish it would rain" she's gone and he's left dealing with the pain. Man Motown could be so deep sometimes.
This is probably my favorite Temptations song and a big reason for that is David Ruffin’s voice!! He and Eddie Kendrick were my faves! This was music passed down from my parents and I am so thankful! ❤️❤️
This song is more real than just a love song. The songwriter, Roger Penzabene, knew his wife was cheating on him, and it inspired him to write "I Wish it Would Rain," and also the Temptations' song "I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)." Just before "I Wish it Would Rain" was released Penzabene committed suicide.
I cried listening to this song back in the late 1968 to early 1970's. When my GF & I broke up. We eventually got back together got married and had 4 great kids. This song still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.
Norman Whitfield sadly never got to see the impact of how timeless and pure his emotions were in his written lyrics, The song is based on his ex, and I believe he killed himself on New Years Eve shortly after the song was created. RIP
