    FOR EVERYONE HAVING ISSUES WITH USB FIRMWARE
    Make sure you download the WHOLE Update file. That Link in the description brings you to the playstation website... If you click below where it says: "Do you want to perform a fresh install of the full system software? If so then click here". Click it. Scroll down until you see in bold lettering "Perform a New Installation of the System Software" it should be 900 MB. Put that in the USB flash drive and you should be good to go.

    My PS4 will be here this week. I'm doing a hard drive upgrade like the one done in the video. Except I'm doing it before playing anything on it. So no need to back up games or transfer to new hard drive. Wish me luck. Nice video!

    Do you need to reformat the HDD before installing it on the PS4 or does the PS4 will format it for you? Another question, can you do this before you ever connect your PS4 (new from the box)? I ask this because I don't plan to buy a PS4 until possibly 2016. Thanks for your video.

      I'm having the same issue at first I thought it was the hard drive: "Samsung Seagate 2TB Laptop HDD SATA III 2.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive 9.5MM (ST2000LM003)" which I bought on amazon and I am still having issues. I even tried connecting directly to the internet to do the download and it always said 0Kb/0Kb 1 sec and it never downloads anything just says the same bs, go to 7 to initiate usb update. I need help as well.

    • @JoshuaDeamhan
      @JoshuaDeamhan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Oscar Benavides Well i figured it out. There are 2 update files. One is a regular update file, one is for a full system restore. However, they are both titled with the same name. Make sure you download the one for a fresh install. It should be around 8mb instead of 1 or 2 for a regular update.

The only problem is when I insert the USB into the PS4 it says the software cannot be initialised, is this because I downloaded the software from the website on a chromebook? Should I use a windows laptop instead? Any help is much appreciated, great video as well

  • @Pirelli913
    @Pirelli913 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I need some help to anyone who can provide it. Unfortunately, the same day that Sony released firmware 2.50 (yesterday), I got the 2 TB HDD featured in this video. I followed the steps to remove the old one and install the new one. I followed the steps to download the firmware and put it on an USB flash drive, but when I turn on my PS4 in rest mode and follow the directions, it doesn't recognize it as being 2.50. The flash drive I have is FAT32. I contacted customer support and had a live chat with someone. They asked the same questions to which I already provided answers to in here and after doing some research, said the new firmware (2.50) hadn't been updated on the site yet and to have patience. The thing is, before my 2 TB HDD arrived, I had downloaded and installed 2.50 on my 500 GB HDD, yet it won't recognize it on my 2 TB HDD. Help, please! I'm a sad cookie. :(

    • @Pirelli913
      @Pirelli913 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I figured out the problem and to anyone else that's having issues, here's my solution. Apparently there are THREE versions of firmware 2.50 that can be downloaded. The first is around 300 MB. That's the wrong one. The second is 758 MB. That, too, is incorrect. But apparently there's a third that's 785 MB. You need to find that one and it should work. Keep in mind, this is for firmware 2.50.

      Fastweb im trying to do the same thing i got a 2tb hardrive that i got off amazon and was said to work with the ps4 and showed pictures. but after i make the files they way im suppose to and put it in the ps4, then puting it in safe mode and clicking option 7. it says it can not find the update file. ik the flashdrive works cause i save profile data to it before and its formated correctly. i called psn and they said a 2tb hardrive wont work.... any help?

    • @Pirelli913
      @Pirelli913 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kameron Kellner For as much as I love Sony products, their customer service reps are completely incompetent. A 2 TB HDD WILL work with a PS4. As I said above, there are three different firmware versions of 2.50. One is around 300 MB. Don't DL that one. Another is 758 MB. Don't DL that one. The third, which apparently isn't on their website yet is 785 MB. That is the one you need. After doing some searching for you, I refound it. community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-4-Support/Full-system-install-file-for-2-50-not-available-on-website-Need/td-p/45056898/page/4 The second comment on page four by a guy named mrbarker18 provided the link for download. That should work. Hope it helps.

    • @bab2thebone1
      @bab2thebone1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kameron Kellner go to the bottom of the page where it says "Update Using a Computer". click on the link where it says "DOWNLOAD NOW click to start the download" which is right after the picture that shows you the folders that need to be created. it works best with internet explorer. this is for the latest firmware update as of now which is 2.57. this will work with a 2 tb

      Monty Braun Go to www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/ps4-system-software/
      Then the 'Perform a new installation of the system software' tab
      Save the file with the file name "PS4UPDATE.PUP".
      [DOWNLOAD NOW] Click to start the download.
      3. Turn off the power of your PS4 system completely.
      Check that the power indicator is not lit. If the power indicator is lit up in orange, touch the power button on the PS4 system for at least seven seconds (until the system beeps a second time).
      4. Connect the USB storage device that the update file is saved on to your PS4 system, and then touch the power button for at least seven seconds. The PS4 system starts in safe mode.
      5. Select [Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)].
      Follow the screens to complete the update.

    Good video. The new update (at the time) allows users to do a full back up to a USB drive/external HDD. I used an external HDD for my full back up, and I needed it seeing how I had only 20gb of space left. Took me 6 hours to do a full back up. And then another 3 hours to upload my original files (backed up into the external HDD) to the fresh HDD. Good thing I performed these either while I was at work or asleep.

    I just got this and it installed it yesterday. It does work for the ps4. I encountered a lot of crap but in the end it seems to be working great now. Tips: Search for the full system re install file on Google. I found it on Reddit. It downloads it as a text file so just change the end to .PUP. Once i got the right update file mine worked right away. BUT Once it restarted blank screen and Blue light. Dont sweat like i did if this happens. Just boot up in safe mode again and do the reinitialize install from usb again. After the second time doing that it worked for me.

    • @PSNationTorgo
      @PSNationTorgo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually a bit easier except for the lack of a backup/restore utility, but it's definitely better if there's a failure at any point. The PS4's process is a lot more graceful.

    • @PSNationTorgo
      @PSNationTorgo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** No one makes a 2.5-inch drive larger than 2TB. Nyko is working on a way to replace the laptop drive with a full 3.5-inch drive, which allow you to go to 4TB, but it's a few months out and hasn't been tested.
      You can only backup your game saves. Everything else has to be re-downloaded or installed from the discs. Uninstallation isn't needed from the original drive

    • @PSNationTorgo
      @PSNationTorgo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Well, there IS a way to set all that crap up, but you have to snake everything out from under the cover and it can be kind of a mess, and quite frankly, it's more about "doing it" than really needing it.
      Also, there have already been some test results showing that the PS4 has issues with drives over 2TB, being that you can't power the system on with the controller (you have to hit the button) and that Standby mode won't work.
      It just becomes a choice between having some thing "cool" like 6TB of space on your PS4 to simply show-off I guess? It's almost the same thing when you start looking at an expensive SSD, which shows decent load time improvements, but at the end of the day, the Dollar per GB doesn't seem like a good investment compared to faster load times on a console.

    Just had a nasty thought here - several people have a problem with error messages and the PS4 not recognising the system software file - could it be that this has only started since version 2.02?
    Before that nobody ever complained, they all just said to look for the right file size and it should work. Now I've spent £80 on a 2TB drive and nothing is happening.
    I dread to call Playstation and being put on hold again for over an hour...

    So you didn't back up everything to a separate hard drive , then used that to restore. You just used what was backed up in the cloud and that worked basically the same way ? I'm about to upgrade my HD and just wanted confirmation.

    Alot of people are having trouble when it's comes to the usb an installing the firmware part. Everyone make sure you download the correct file. There will be one that is for just the update. You will need the FULL system update. The file will be bigger then that one.

      Never mind, its the update file, it must be the one near 900mb not the 300mb, mine was 758mb and it recognize it so let the installation begins.

      cc409 I have downloaded the 758MB file several times and the PS4 still can't find it, error code SU-30640-2 Then I was wondering if I could simply 'clone' the new drive from the original PS4 drive, but my Windows 8.1 laptop doesn't recognise the PS4 drive when fitted in an external caddy...
      Any ideas?

    My son and I have been sharing the same ps4, He plays a lot so i got my own ps4. I only play 1 game MLB the show. Here's my problem, I saved my game data on a usb stick in fat32 format and installed the show on my new ps4 after creating my new account. Now The saved game data does not show up on the stick infact the ps4 son't even see the stick, I saved to online storage and can only see it when i am on his player which is linked to my email address. I had to create a new email adress too. I cant start all over to much pain staking work on the one I have. What can I do to get my saved game info on to my player on my new ps4?

    • @Abub-xz2bi
      @Abub-xz2bi 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the saved data is on his username you can't play it unless your signed in on his user I think.
      Try signing in on your ps4 with his account and download the data from his online storage then it should be on your ps4.

    Hey PS Nation, just bought a 1 TB SSHD
    Changed it out and got it tucked in.
    Now, I have a Fat32 Usb stick, that I'm downloading the "perform a new installation of the software" too. Place that saved file in the PS4's File folder name UPDATE and then Stick that USB into the PS4 and start it up on safe mode by Pressing The power button for about 5-7 Sec? Then Select option 7 and go from there?
    Does that sound about right?
    Thank you very much.
