This worked great, but the link for the site for the USB doesn't work, you need the other site that has the 850 mb this one only has the 350 mb which will not work anymore
It is important to note and should be re-clarified in the video there is a smaller update file intended only to just update a functioning operating system to the latest version,, and there is a large full operating system install that must be used when installing a new hard disk,, the larger update file contains all the files necessary to re-install the full operating system on a new Drive (SSD or Harddisk) to make matters worse they both use the same file name PS4UPDATE.PUP ,, when you go to PS4 system software update page you must ignore the first update file offer button and scroll down to the page to the section labeled " Perform a New Installation of the System Software" and chose to download the file offered there,, its a "full operating system install" and is 849 mb as of the current revision 4,07 but this size will change when new updates are released. this file must be placed in the proper directory for the system to find it ,, create a directory named in all caps "PS4" -- then inside the PS4 folder again named all in caps a second folder "UPDATE" place the "PS4UPDATE.PUP" start the ps4 in safe mode with the USB drive in place and chose "Select [Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)]. Follow the screens to complete the update.
Thank u soooo much for this video. Wen I went to the game shop, the man says that you cannot upgrade, you must buy a seperate 1 or 2 TB PS4, guess he was wrong. Im going to try to save up for this. And use ur video to help me!!! Thank u so much again u r really my hero!
For anyone who is having trouble reinstalling the system software: when I first tried to do it, I downloaded the PS4 update file but it said it wasn’t the latest version and it wouldn’t work, what I had to do was scroll down on the PS4 update file page and find the tab where it said “Preform a new installation of the system software” and then there’s a button in black and white letters that says “download now” click that one. The other ones didn’t work for me and just wanted to inform anyone else who was having trouble :)
Will u have to do all of your update (from the games) back after installing the new hard disk because i live in lebanon and i have a very bad wifi so the updates always have errors
question about the external backup drive: what file format does it have to be (fat32, ntfs)and/or does using the backup utility format the drive? i have a 3 tb external that's about half full with other media files, can i just use it as is, or should i create a seperate partition on it, or just use a completely blank external?
Wait so are you going to need like any cables to connect to any thing because I haven't heard you mention using any sort of cables to transfer anything yet I wonder how your supposed to get the system update onto the ps4
Hi I did all that your video says but as the restore is happening, about halfway completed (around 140GB/298GB), I get an error message saying cannot restore. Unable to find USB. Please help.
nice video mate, bit I have few questions 1- some articles say that the external drive should be formatted with fat 32 or exfat, that true? 2- does the backup support game saves? 3- if the operation fails; can put back my old hard without any problems? I'm planning on upgrading ,just wanna be sure not mess things up thanx
So I have a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD drive, and my PS4 is the CUH-1215A model and apparently the SSD is a bit too thin for the 4 screws to go back in. I was thinking maybe I could just elevate that internal hard drive to put the screws back in... Could use some help?
im getting to the part where is says link the wireless controller and press the ps button, does it have to be a sony ps4 one? because mines a wired one from BM
So my question is can u somehow use the hard drive ur about to put inside for this instead of an external hard drive cuz i can barely get the hard drive and having to get another one is gonna b hard
so you need another 2tb hardrive or a pc with enough space to do this? i thought i could just back it all on to my new 2tb hardrive and would be able to restore it all with the 2tb now in the ps4
can you explain exactly what to do from when you install the update file from the PS website. what do i have to do and what do you mean by connect the hard drive to the laptop - how? thanks
Can i simply use a external hard drive box, put the old ps4 hard drive in it then install everything to the upgraded hardrive after i install it? Seems cheaper and more efficient to do that then buying an entire other hardrive, downloading everything to it, then downloading it to the new internal hard drive but i havnt seen anyone do this so idk of it can evan be done
That would seem easier.. but it won't work that way. All of the disks used for PS4 are encrypted based on your individual PS4's hardware ID and is explicitly set as the primary internal disk or secondary external disk. If a drive moves to a different data port (switching from SATA to USB), it will no longer work.
But... When you make the backup a PS4 folder will all ready be created, so I just insert the UPDATE folder next to the other one the PS4 created after the backup??
does the external hard drive has to be empty before backing up the ps4 or is it alright to have other stuff saved on it already on the external hard drive? good video by the way!
hey mate can I use external hdd for PS4 hdd upgrade.??? will it cause any issue in the new models?? please reply as quickly you can..I'm planning to upgrade my hdd.. thank you mate
What program did you guys use to open the PUP file with? I've tried Internet explorer and haven't been able to download the update using my USB. I keep getting error messages (CE-30774-1) when i know the update is correctly on the USB. The only logical explanation to my trouble thus far is a corrupted download. Any one that can help much obliged.
Hello I just bought an external hard drive and the new hard drive for the ps4. I am on the first step trying to back up on the external hard drive it keeps saying cannot connect to hard drive every time I press back up. Do I need to select the option that says format as extended storage or do something else?
If I wanted to put the old ps4 hard drive back in do I have to do all of these steps? or can I just put the old hard drive in and have all of the saved data pop up off from the hard drive?
So b4 replacing the stock 500gb hdd, do a back up? This saves it to the PS4 cloud, or what? Then install new hdd, and do a restore, and it automatically downloads all yoir games and data? Correct...
will it also transfer over accounts activated as primary. I have accounts with games on I no longer have access to and if I do this will I be able to transfer them over
Would it be possible to just back up all the save data and reinstall the games? Would the save data sync up with the game after reinstalling? Sorry if this is a stupid question lol.
What if I already have an upgraded hard drive on my ps4, but I just got a ps4 pro, and want to use that same upgraded hard drive that is currently in my regular ps4 and put it in my ps4 pro?? Can I just swap it or do I need to do a backup? Can you please tell me how I can do that? I'm gonna try to do it tonight. Thanks.
I did everything up to installing the second hard drive, but when I click restore ps4 it says "The usb storage device is not connected." Do I have to connect my old hard drive? When I plugged that one in it says it's not supported
what if i plug in both the new and old hdd to my pc via a SATA-to-USB connector & copy all the files from my new hdd to the old one? Would that not work?
I need some help please, when I get to install the file back into the ps4 it says " the update file cannot be used. Conned a USB storage device that contains an update file for reinstallation for version 5.01 or later. please help :((
This seems like a safer or easier way to change and manage your data. But I don't have an external Hard Drive, I only have a 2TB naked hard drive that I am installing to replace the 500gb factory. So my question is... can I still do it If... 1) I have all my game saved data backed up onto the PSN cloud. 2) re-install all of my physical discs. 3) download the games I bought thru the PSN. and 4) download the firmware update onto the new 2TB hard drive ???
hello nice vidio, hey i want too ask, i have lots of digital game so my HDD runnout off space. . so i want change my ps4 using HDD 2TB. and using this method.. (backup and restore) so im wondering in backup, all data game also save data where aru put them? on you new HDD or riginal HDD PS4? if it's on original ps4 hdd so the HHD we use like external HDD? (just put them go ps4 and hit restore button??
Can I just take my old internal hard drive and put it into my new one before turning on my new console?, I have the latest update on my old internal hard drive.
he hooked up a small usb drive (like a thumbdrive) and downloaded a update for PS4 since the new hard drive doesn't have the PS4 software pre-installed.
When restoring when about 25% or about 20 min in the restoring process it gives me code ce-32539-2 like if the external loses connection. Any advice on this?
you need a USB drive with at least 1gb of storage, plug that into your computer then download the update from the website and save it to that USB drive. Insert the USB drive into your ps4 (after you install new hard drive) then basically do what he does in the video when hes in safe mode in the ps4
I'm having a problem with installing the update to the ps4. I successfully installed the firm-ware and placed it in the ps4 folder but when I load up the ps4 onto safe mode, the ps4 stated that it couldn't find an update file. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, someone please help.
Do you have to be connected to wifi to put the update on the ps4 system. because I downloaded the update on a USB drive at my friends house because I dont have Internet
can you just back up games to an external hard drive, then put that hard drive in the ps4 instead of buying both an external hard drive and a normal hard drive?
I got a question i have the update version in my external hard drive and when i go to start the process say that i not be used why i did the same steps that u did ????
Can i just save all my data that i have on my 500GB to that hard drive and buy a 1TB and fill that with new gamedata and swich around them if i want to play another game from the other hard drive?
now i have a question, will this backup make me lose my primary activation for ps4? i just got it back to primary status and i don't really fancy losing that again.
Is the hard drive the desktop version? It has been a decade or so since I've last saw a desktop hard drive. Currently, I'm using a laptop and a portable hard drive with 3.0 USB can I connect to any laptop or desktop but not like in this video, of course. So, is this hard drive the desktop version? If so, are all the same size?
Please help me I'm new to this I get most of it but I'm confuse about the hard drive part. I get that we have to download the update but what do I I do first do I plug the hard drive with the software update before I initialize the ps4 or after. And do I only need one hard or two thanks
please help me i put my new hard drive in, started the ps4, pluged in my flash drive that has the Folders "PS4", "UPDATE", and the 4.07 system update but now my ps4 says: updatefile cannot be used what can i do now?!
Could you just take out the hard drive, put in the new one, use a sata to usb cable and restore all your games that way? Obviously the software file would still have to be on usb stick tho
my PS4 is stuck in a screen that says cannot start PS4, cannot access system storage, and the error code is CE-34335-8. is there any way I can save my data to the PS4 and then switch hard drives? please help
so I get the new drive and connect it via USB to use it for backup. update the software via USB after putting the new drive. Then connect the old drive via USB for restore ?
Deemo Dude you will have three hard drives and a usb. USB for the system software, the current hard drive in the ps4, your new hard drive and then an external hard drive. You can then buy a kit and make your old ps4 hard drive into another external. Once the new hard drive is inside the ps4 and you update the software from the website with the usb you can restore with the external that you backed up on!
Dude thank you so much I've been trying to find a explanation for a newer PS4 l. The hard drive looks a little different so it was a little bit confusing. thanks a lot this vid saved me
My problem is the USB ( I think ), I did everything like you said but when I go to initialize and press ok it says cannot find the update file what do I do ( I also used 3 different usbs but I really think it's the update file( even though it's in the update folder )
+David Abbasi You Need to download the Complete reinstall file not the update. Scroll down that page and click on fresh install or something like that.
You put the back up onto a completely separate hard drive and then you put the update on the new hard drive once it is in the ps4 and then you put the back up from the separate external hard drive to the new hard drive
Does this work?: If I back up with a 2tb external hardrive, can I just take out the HDD from the external and place it on the ps4 so I dont have to restore it for 3-5 hrs?
That way won't work. Any new harddrives that are put into the HDD Bay in the PS4 will be Formatted. Even if it's a HDD from another PS4. You HAVE to make a backup to an external HDD for this to work for you in this case.
+IPlayfordubs when you backed up all your files from the Standard 500gb hard drive to an external hard drive all you have to do after installing the 1tb hard drive install the ps os from the fresh install and then back up from the external hard drive
+POGProductionz because I'm gonna buy a 2 tB hard drive and I saved my saved my save data in to the cloud and I was thinking tha when I'll install my new hard drive I'll have to download my save data from the cloud and then reinstall all my games
Awesome video man :) thanks a bunch, wasn't sure if i was doing it right they way i was gonna do it, but after watching your video i know for sure i was doing it right, always better to watch a video to see if someone else did it the same, and sure enough you doing i the same way i was going to
There is big mistake in the video - for new HDD you have to download BIG firmware ( 800 mb) not standard (300mb).
This worked great, but the link for the site for the USB doesn't work, you need the other site that has the 850 mb this one only has the 350 mb which will not work anymore
Yes you are right
Yeah, I was having problems until I found out it was actually the wrong update file. Now it's working. I thought it was the hard drive at first.
POGProductionz what is the new update link can you put it in the description because I can't find the new update file link
That is the reason Mr. Krabs comment has been Pinned.

In the part of the software update you put the file in a usb and plug in that usb to the ps4 and then put the the ps4 in safemode?
Puzzle Productions just when safe mode comes up plug it in then
You don't click the blue update button as that's the file for updates you need the 800mb file that's close to the bottom of the page
JesseThePotatoHunter you are a life saver thank you so much!
which button is that? please help
Liza Vazquez scroll down to the bottom of the page and read up slightly, I think it just says click to download in bold black writing
***** not a problem sony should make that way more clear than they do :)
Liza Vazquez hope you found it
rip i accidentally deleted my saved data in some games like destiny are they gone forever?
Oof
What was that trophy thing i would like to keep my trophies

do you need 2 separate usb's to back up the data on the ps4 and a different one for the software update that you download on the ps website?

Bc I only have like 2 games on my console so I shouldn't have to worry about losing anything right? As long as I redownload
James Scheivert yeah
James Scheivert just make sure you save your game data on your USB stick minimum 8gb USB stick recommended.
I did everything up to installing the second hard drive, but when I click restore ps4 it says "The usb storage device is not connected." Do I have to connect my old hard drive? When I plugged that one in it says it's not supported

This seems like a safer or easier way to change and manage your data. But I don't have an external Hard Drive, I only have a 2TB naked hard drive that I am installing to replace the 500gb factory. Did PSN cloud work for you?
Jeremy Herrera yes...

he hooked up a small usb drive (like a thumbdrive) and downloaded a update for PS4 since the new hard drive doesn't have the PS4 software pre-installed.
When restoring when about 25% or about 20 min in the restoring process it gives me code ce-32539-2 like if the external loses connection. Any advice on this?

Do you have to be connected to wifi to put the update on the ps4 system. because I downloaded the update on a USB drive at my friends house because I dont have Internet
Jboi 321
Is this a joke?
can you just back up games to an external hard drive, then put that hard drive in the ps4 instead of buying both an external hard drive and a normal hard drive?
I got a question i have the update version in my external hard drive and when i go to start the process say that i not be used why i did the same steps that u did ????
You need to download the update file that says for a fresh install. look at the pinned comment I have written today
than you for the info now i have my 5 tb installed
Do I need an external hardrive? Couldn't I just use the online back storage thing or do we need the external hard drive?
Lyles Productions You can use online storage but, PSN only gives you 1gb of saved data.
So will it save your profile and all of your ps+ memberships ? Pls answer
Excellent question, I believe it will not if you first deactivate the PS4 from your primary and reactivate after you done backing up.

Veneno thanks! I'll be looking into that.
Veneno thanks! I'll be looking into that.
does the harddrive you back up your data to need to be a certain format anf does it need to be empty?
Would you have to do the update step on the computer for this to work
Please help me I'm new to this I get most of it but I'm confuse about the hard drive part. I get that we have to download the update but what do I I do first do I plug the hard drive with the software update before I initialize the ps4 or after. And do I only need one hard or two thanks

Could you just take out the hard drive, put in the new one, use a sata to usb cable and restore all your games that way? Obviously the software file would still have to be on usb stick tho
do you just connect the cable to the hard drive that was in the ps4 at first
What usb did you back it up to? Do you have a third hard drive?

so I get the new drive and connect it via USB to use it for backup. update the software via USB after putting the new drive.
Deemo Dude FYI I had about 408gb to back up and the back up took me all night. I just hit back up and went to bed. Lol
Dude thank you so much I've been trying to find a explanation for a newer PS4 l. The hard drive looks a little different so it was a little bit confusing. thanks a lot this vid saved me
can I copy games into an external drive and the pop the case of it and use it as an internal?
hey bro nice video but can i upgrade it to 2TB? i have PS4 slim btw it's 500GB of storage
yes you can its still a hardrive you can store data either way
@@BeansLive567 thanks for the info brother, keep it up.
Scroll down that page and click on fresh install or something like that.
if you back up your ps4 to external usb does the trophy will include? or just the downloaded game and the saved data?
Enrico Jake Castro you can sync you're trophies to your account so that all you need to do is just log in and they will be there
will this messup your gameshare? like will you have to add all the gameshared accounts again?
Tony Montana probably
can I just login and then re-download all of my saved data through the library?
Zachary Castilleja yes
I'm having a problem in opening my ps4 hard drive cover and it hard to open it. Any advice?
Nice video man
+ezelelo2323 Try pulling with 4 fingers each side before the LED light.
Do you put the update and back up on the same hard drive? P.S. YOUR VIDEOS ARE THE BEST!
You put the back up onto a completely separate hard drive and then you put the update on the new hard drive once it is in the ps4 and then you put the back up from the separate external hard drive to the new hard drive
+Sam Whittman how do you put the update to he new hard drive , with a usb?
+Rain Deluxe yes
Can you use online storage to back up saved files
I put my new hardrive in first if I put my old when in then back it up will it work
You could also put all of your stuff onto a USB drive and then do the procedure then store he stuff back onto there
Does this work?: If I back up with a 2tb external hardrive, can I just take out the HDD from the external and place it on the ps4 so I dont have to restore it for 3-5 hrs?
I don't think that can work.
If you have PS+ and you want to get a new hard drive, will all your games still be saved or no?
How did you end up with Just Cause 3? 5:38
Thanks...especially for the details. Many of these videos skip details... you didnt. Kudos!
So can I backup my applications from my ps4 to a hard drive, and then use the same hard drive to replace the stock ps4 one?
That way won't work. Any new harddrives that are put into the HDD Bay in the PS4 will be Formatted. Even if it's a HDD from another PS4. You HAVE to make a backup to an external HDD for this to work for you in this case.
will this be compatible with the ps4? comes tomorrow 2tb seagate expansion STEA2000400
When you have switch the 500g to a 1 terabyte how do you back up everything is there a way or will all my stuff go onto the new hardrive
+IPlayfordubs when you backed up all your files from the Standard 500gb hard drive to an external hard drive all you have to do after installing the 1tb hard drive install the ps os from the fresh install and then back up from the external hard drive
Cant you just sign in to your old account after you install the new Hard Drive and get all your downloads back that way?
can u plz tell where did u get the bew hard drive ????
So you have to have 500GB external hard drive for backing up the games and the data?
+Gameel II if you have your hard drive completely full than yes.
Do you have a link to the cheapest external hard drive. Thanks man, you're really helping me out.
If you can't afford at this time look for a used one and sell it when you are done :)
+POGProductionz can I use my ps4 500 GB hard drive and restore from it everything I have to the new hard drive
+POGProductionz because I'm gonna buy a 2 tB hard drive and I saved my saved my save data in to the cloud and I was thinking tha when I'll install my new hard drive I'll have to download my save data from the cloud and then reinstall all my games
Once the ps4 restarts after I back up data is it suppose to back up ps4??
do you need to back it up on a USB or can u just press back up and it will not lose any game saved data or what someone tell me please?!?!?!
Awesome video man :) thanks a bunch, wasn't sure if i was doing it right they way i was gonna do it, but after watching your video i know for sure i was doing it right, always better to watch a video to see if someone else did it the same, and sure enough you doing i the same way i was going to
I tried but the one I bought wasn't correct and I was missing a few things so I need to get the 1TB drive you got for your PS4..
I used my Sanoxy USB HDD case and it is not being recognized, WTF? Are the screws not tight enough? I lost the other one but I had another.
Never mind. I just needed to do a few things and got it backed up.
