Does Esteban Ocon have an Attitude Problem?

  • Yes indeed, Ocon right now is all talk, all big words but lacks the sheer ability to fulfill what he says. It is surely a straight up, attitude problem. His consistent tension with team mates and accidents during Grand Prix's tells me that he is no where near as good as he thinks he is. Ocon is supposed to be the Renault / Alpine guy but he is getting soundly beaten by his newer team mate Pierre Gasly. So what can Ocon do to turn this around? How can he win back the F1 community and achieve what he knows he can?

Funny part is if you rewatch all seasons since a driver starts and focus on those drivers you find they are not that good or worse than you thought . And if one watches grosjean . ocon and hamilton and compare them , you find they have more incomen than one first expects . as there are reasons why driverrs like Grosjean and Hamilton are in the honourable mention list of most crash prone drivers .

Alonso destroyed him on the track, no matter if it was a race or classification, the only reason why Fernando's last year in Alpine Ocon ended up getting more points than him was due to the lack of reliability of Fernando's car. I still remember how Ocon let Lewis Hamilton easily overtake the two Alpines because Ocon was more worried about defending himself from Fernando than from Lewis, harming the entire team in the process. Ocon is not only a mediocre pilot but also a miserable and shameless person.

@@crystalracing4794 You're right, I didn't remember that one too. But we all see the difference, Fernando helped him get his first victory, he helped his teammate by preventing Lewis Hamilton from getting close to Ocon, Alonso held him back for more than 10 laps if I'm not mistaken. He took the risk of not finishing the race in that fight and he did it to help the team and his teammate. Ocon would never have taken a risk for someone else, he is too selfish, he would have done the opposite.

Verstappen didn't always have the superior machinery that he has now. He was battling with Lewis in lesser machinery. Ocon does not have similar feats. F3 and F1 are 2 different levels of racing. Verstappen won his debut race with Red Bull. Ocon has only won 1 race in his entire F1 career. Even before 2021, Verstappen had 10 race wins under his belt. You said Max didn't always have a good car, but sometimes they had better cars that suited them more in different tracks. That's why Max and Ricardo were able to win without Ferrari and Mercedes having dnf. Red Bull was always the best all-around team in Formula 1 with their aerodynamics, fast pitstop timing, and decision-making. Red Bull can make a fast car with a bad engine, but I don't think other teams can do what Red Bull does, so I don't believe Max could've won races in Alpine this year if he was driving at Alpine.

I think in addition to the impact of losing his seat in the way he did it was just made worse by how his career was potentially shaping up to be. He was seen as the next Mercedes driver, don't know how solidly he was really seen as the next number 1 but the impression around those first few years of his career was he just has to bide his time and hone his craft then when a spot opens he joins a top tier team. Then he got dropped for the same year when the person who replaced him in that position started F1. So not only did he lose his seat in a crap way but he also saw his chance that he was waiting for disappear with George performing as well as he did.
What bothers me about him isn't the incidents, or even the fact that he blames others (That is a shit thing to do of course) but he seems to have no problem with shittalking even after the race. We know it is normal for drivers to see the incident as the other driver's fault in the heat of the moment but with him it is as if he just sticks to that. The comments about Alonso are an example of his attitude. Why say those things? What do you hope to achieve by saying you did all the work? Even if he had to do everything and Alonso slacked on his duties, you don't help yourself in any way by saying that to the media. Answer the question of Alonso leaving in a PR way or even something like "It is known that we didn't get along well so I am not sad that he isn't my teammate anymore" but not saying things like that.

If he was that bad I don't think he could have had a podium in Monaco this year especially since this circuit is 90% driver and he's in an alpine. I think there's been so many technical problems in the past two years it's like judging Leclerc's performance vs Sainz without factoring DNFs and so on. Also, there's a really embarrassing amount of online hate/cyberbullying towards him most of the time coming from Spaniards (Alonso fans, Perez fans) "death penalty for ocon" "lifetime prison for ocon".
I agree with some parts of the analysis but I feel like it's really one-sided, there's a lot of emphasis on singular events (radios, specific races) and completely omitting that F1 drivers act like this all the time in the heat of the moment. For instance, Gasly flipped the bird already twice this season, throwing around the F words on other pilots, but you say he's calm and likable? There seems to be double standards. On the other hand, the fact that Ocon has 7 DNFs in 17 races and that when he can race he's bringing back points almost every time isn't even mentioned. 🤨

@@thegridgab I think there is no clear choice. It depends mostly if I'm a bottom-tier team or a midfield team. Esteban has had more challenging teammates and seasons overall (since Pierre did not finish the season at RB) so I think there's more certainty regarding Esteban's potential contribution as a driver to the team and for technical feedback (a strong point). On the other hand, Pierre was a leader at Alpha Tauri, with Yuki being happy staying the 2nd pilot in a bottom-tier team, so I wouldn't say it's comparable to being in a team with a multiple world champion (Alonso) or Perez back then. So far Gasly has had a terrific season, he has a great momentum, but at the time being I would try to stay cold-minded. How about you ?

It has been used by Athletes to get what they need from the team in terms or support and development. Maybe you have to push a team into i direction you want it to go.
