Air Fryers are the way to go. I have 2, my first cost £60 in a sale and my second cost £25. I cant see any real difference between the two cooking wise. the only differences are the draws (same capacity), one is square and the other is round. so I use the square one for meats or fish and the round one for chips or veg. I believe the home kitchens of the future will only need 4 electrical items in it. an Air Fryer, Microwave, Kettle and Toaster.
We paid £129 for our Duronic Dual Air Fryer on Amazon, which came with the dual drawers (5ltrs each) AND one 10ltr drawer (with a divider) and it has the viewing windows too. We have used it every day since we bought it and even got rid of our main oven (as we never used it since we bought the Duronic.) In the space that housed our main oven we now have two shelves, one has the Duronic Dual air fryer on it and the other has a 'mid priced' air fryer oven. There are only the two of us and so that is all we need! TFS and have a good evening! 👍💖 ** EDIT ** Just went and checked on Amazon and the price has reduced to £118.74 for the version we have. (you can choose between the models!!)
I bought yesterday the Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone 2 x 4,75 L for £140,4 (168€). Used no name brands for almost 12 -13 years. But the Duronic also look great, I like the windows and that it also has a large drawer
thank you for putting in the work of doing the captions, Barry! no apologies for mistakes necessary, we appreciate the effort you put into everything 😊
I bought the Instant Pot Air Fryer, 6 Quart but I bought it on sale for 50 less. Life changer and everything so far as come out perfect. This is a good example that I may have saved a little money. But, at the price I got it.. it was a really good deal and a larger square cooking area. Great video as always Barry!
I have the same ninja as you tested. honestly i have not used anything except the air fry function. I do love it though. For me the big plus is that i can make potatoes or fries in one drawer and grill some veggies in the other.
I agree with your conclusion: Hugh is a pretty great bargain for the price, but the Ginger is pretty awesome. They're really reaching for two separate markets. I am in general, a fan of the Ginger products. I have the Ginger flip, and it replaces a standalone air fryer AND toaster, so it takes much less real estate in my small kitchen.
@@mrbarrylewis but did you take into consideration that you had about half a portion in it? 15 minutes would have been fine with a family sized portion, but when you do less you need to decrease the time accordingly.
Ive had one of these Ninjas for a while now and i love it. The only time the normal oven goes on is for pizza and thats only cos its too big to fit in the ninja. No more struggling to bend down to the oven and trying to grab trays with mits, just pull the drawer out and off you go.
Another owner of the same Ninja air fryer and It's been brilliant, I barely use my oven now. The chip test "Ninja" brand chips did say 200C for the Ninja (not 240C) so you did ignore that which is maybe why there were burnt. Plus you have to shake the chips basket every 5 mins or so for even browning.
ah yeah but that test was about the max crisp setting, I already know chips would be fine, I wanted to test the exact instructions for the max crisp as per the manual!
@mrbarrylewis Ninja manuals are always a bit dodgy tbh. I think the times are based on American voltage. I have the flexdrawer which is a bit different, but I know that you generally have to take 20% of both time and temperature with that, not sure if it would work out the same for the dual
The ninja I have with the grill and air fryer is amazing and I just don't use my oven really anymore. The thermometer in built means meat can be easy if you don't enjoy the challenge. Not as good for baking but mostly due to knowing it needs less time a bit like a stove top pizza maker to bake flatbread/pita
@@mrbarrylewis Max crisp is 240C though, which it showed on the device. Obviously cooking something 40C higher is gonna cook it a lot faster. Those extra modes kind of are a guessing game as to whether you should ever use them though. Just cooking everything on Air Fry seems easier :P
I always follow instructions from the food package, not device's manual. For example, those fries say they are done in 8min at 200C. As you did notice, they were already prefried much darker than standard frozen fries.
I have had s couple of airfryers (all 1 drawer type) and recently got one of the ninja duel drawer ones. I will never go back to a 1 drawer again!. I live by myself and love how I can do a whoke meal (chicken and vegs) and set it to finish all at the same time. Makes meal times less of a chore.
Ive just bought my first airfryer its a cosori dual, i love it , its got the windows so you can see whats going on. Not the cheapest but i got it for £129 instead of £199 off amazon. New subscriber here love your videos useful and hilarious 😂.
Get the ninja Flexidrawer Barry. It's easily the best air fryer out there. It's got one massive drawer but you can put a partition in and it then becomes two drawers with two separate temp/time. I got one a few months ago and it's absolutely brilliant. Having one massive drawer allows you to cook much bigger things in it. I do full racks of ribs the most.
I have the ninja one and my parents have one similar to the cheap one you have. I adore my ninja one and it’s replaced so many of my other appliances and makes cooking for me as a disabled person so much easier!
I truly believe any air fryer that's not a ninja that you buy is just a stop gap until you pay the extra and get a ninja. I've got the Flexidrawer and it's brill.
Inhave the dual basket ninja.. and the ability to cook two items at the same time is wonderful, the time is much longer as the pwoer is shared between the two baskets.n if you cook fries in jist one basket you can have them done in much shorter time as the on vasket can handle all the power.
Love my dual. There's also racks for it, which makes crisping easy. Buy the silicone inserts and clean up is quick. Best feature is the smart finish, getting the main and side to finish at the same time.
Forgot to add how enjoyable your testing was, I think the real outcome is that whatever air fryer you buy they are a brilliant way to cook. Thanks Barry!
You should have reduced the time if your using Max Crisp or reduced the temp. Not sure that was a fair test. When I cook frozen chips and use max crisp 10mins is pretty much all you need.
hey yep, the longer version of this video I explain a lot more that I'm just following what it said in the manual! I was surprised it said 15 mins too, but hey, just testing it! If this was a branded video I would not been allowed to keep that scene in! Didn't expect them to come out that charred though but was entertaining and just the option I chose to test that functionality!
I'd already seen that the air fry function worked a charm with the asparagus. So I wanted to test the Max crisp setting to see if it was a gimmick or not, so I followed the max crisp instructions in the manual for any frozen chips and that was the result - didn't even tell me to shake them up, but I did anyway and at that point it was going good!. It worked out good as Hugh didn't have a max crisp setting I could see what the 200c results would have been, of course 200c is the normal method as per Hugh but I wanted to test that function, that's it! A fun test, so would I use the max crisp function again? Probably not, but would watch it like a hawk if so because there was prob a point a few mins before where they probably were looking better than Hugh's, I liked the machine overall.
@@mrbarrylewis Yeah, seems like the instructions clearly are off here. With max crisp if I were to experiment I would go for 10 minutes and then add a few more as needed. But I would expect the instructions not to be that off. Or maybe they expect lot more fries in one go...
@@_Ekarosi think it has to do with these particular fries rather than the instructions. in my experience 15 minutes on 200c is really too short on most fries, id usually need about 20-25 minutes . So for the variation of fries i use 15 mins on 240 would probably be about right. I would assume that if the ninja manual suggests 15 minutes on 240c it would suggest somewhere around 20 minutes on 290c. There is no way it tells you to do 15 minutes regardless of which temperature you use. This particular chip just happens to cook faster so if it only needs 15 minutes at 200, youd just need to reduce the time at the 240 as well. Im pretty sure the ninja manual will at some point tell you that its best to stick to the instructions on the bag, but then suggests some times for if you make them yourself or if the bag doesn't have instructions
I have a tower vortex, can see through the glass on front and cooks a chicken on rotisserie never gets old seeing it spinning about. You can get a basket also that makes chips tumble it's like the ball spinner at bingo lol. Only issue with mine is 1 compartment and not physical buttons/knobs. Its those horrid touch sensitive things that dont work if hands are wet or greasy.
I skipped that Ninja just because it's too big, but I love my Cosori which has two heaters (above and below), that might be a good test Barry! it's called the Dual Blaze.
Hi Barry, I have been using an air fryer since 2012 and it changed my life back then. It's taken a while for the rest of the world to catch up but I am glad it finally has. It's nice to see people embracing them because they are really that good and so versatile.
Recently was at my brother's house sitting for a week and he has one of these which I put to good use. For chicken thighs, it was the bomb. Just a spray of olive oil, salt, pepper, and some spices, 20 mins, check and adjust, and seriously good crispy skin and moist meat. Very tasty.
Our air fryer, you turn it on and keep an eye on it. No temp settings, just "on" and we’ve kinda figured out times for pretty much everything we make in it.
Everyone in my household uses our dual Ninja every day! I love the options ❤ It’s amazing in the summer when you don’t want to heat up the house. My go to for salmon!!! 🎉🎉
Hey Barry , thanks to you, I bought yesterday a 23 euro Air Fryer, new, sealed in box. Its as basic as you can imagine, a "Tristar 3825" or something... .BUT - it works completely fine. It has 1150 Watt (according to the box description), its instructions are a joke (fries took 10min instead of 20-30 as stated there) but it works great. I used to have a 100+ euro "princess" model that I had to leave when moving appartments but your videos kind of convinced me that all these expensive air fryers are just a joke with gimmicks that no one uses (i never used any of these preset settings on my old one). My new fryer goes up to 200 degrees (same as the expensive old one), works perfect (so far)... 23euro, im happy... lets see how long it will last.
When using the max crisp function for the chips on the max crisp function, I think it would have cooked the chips for less time because of the higher temperature, which in turn would save time and power.
I have that exact ninja air fryer, got it from wayfair, upgraded after the recall from bestbuy for my insignia brand. Absolutely love it, it's easy to use, love the dual baskets, it does not fit a whole chicken, best recipe is cooking salmon on roast instead of air fry, moist and cooked perfectly
I have the Ninja Max (9.4l) that is even bigger and when I bought it a few months ago I had the Cosori dual one as another contender, but that one was more expensive than the Ninja Max! There's also a very big single basket Cosori that is super popular, but I have to say for my personal use I preferred a dual basket one. Besides the Ninja an Cosori there's also a Tefal one, I believe that's the one where one basket is bigger than the other. Anyway, being able to do two things at the same time at different temperatures is so helpful!
We have an instant pot clearview airfryer. Has a lot of functions, AND a window + light... You should give it a look... We use it almost daily, in a family of four (big eaters ( for europeans))
Barry should make some bespoke treats for the pugs. I do it for ends of beef from joints and the like and it makes some great jerky (air fry for a minute at the end and it cures it effectively for 2 months)
I have the one step down Ninja, dual Bailey's, but missing the Max option, and the sync option. But I love it. It's completely changed dinner time in our house for the entire family. My wife can have a full batch of chicken wings, while I make a fresh beef burger, and the kids can have chicken strips and hotdogs just a few minutes before us!
My dog just started wagging his tail when he heard the Ninja cos he gets air fryer toast in the morning. 😂 We always play around with the timings on the Ninja, so it's not just you. 😊 We use the 'SYNC' feature a lot now, so it's worth having. 😊 We recently bought the flexi drawer and prefer it to the model you tried. 😊
Fair review as a chef I thought you took everything Ito consideration. as we all know different Temps and power makes a difference. thank you .I am the age of when As an apprentice chef in 1969 our hot plate was coal/coke fired ( we had to get an old worker to start it up). Ovens were gas’Bull rings” so you had to learn. All the best rab
17:45 - when you talk about the roast setting - I can confirm, all of the different settings do different things. I nowadays cook most things just on 'bake' - the fan isn't anywhere near as powerful as any of the others, allowing the items to be fully cooked before the outside starts to burn. If I want more of a crisp, I'll then change over to the Air Fry or Max Crisp setting about 3-5 minutes from the end to crisp things up, or add additional time on to the bake setting. Someone wrote somewhere before that all the different settings on the Ginger are like oven settings where you have different strengths for the fan, and they are right which cooks things differently.
I would like a comparison between a bucket air fryer and a toaster over air fryer. I went from the bucket to the toaster oven and I feel that while the toaster oven type is far more versatile, it falls behind in the bucket type for 90% of my air frying (chips and chicken). Not by enough for me to go back to a bucket type.
We have that Ninja dual zone air fryer and we usually go for 10-20 degrees less than what it says on the cooking instructions works best to prevent things getting too dark. We also have the little flip oven style one and the maxi round one that can do the pressure cooking - but we've never managed to get that setting to work right haha! The new one they do is a larger oven style one with a hob on top, that seems very natty. We basically rarely use our oven, just store pans and trays in it haha. My brother and sister-in-law just also bought the Ninja Coffee machine.
I have the dual ninja it's awesome. The fact you can cook at 2 different temps and times sold me. Also the rack inside doesn't fly out when you tip stuff out like the cheaper ones.. it's held in there by the silicone doovers on the edges
Both are going to do a similar job - after they are both small ovens. Yes, quality of components etc will be the difference but it does seem that if you're after a bog standard air fryer the HomCom will do just fine. However, if you want a warranty, more space, greater options etc then go for the big brand. Further, Ninja do a load of money off / student discount / leave your basket and get an extra discount so play around and it will bring the cost down if you decide you need one.
I dunno if maybe the double-barrel ninja is different, but I have one of the single bin versions and the max crisp setting is 450F for 10 minutes...not 15. When yours went for 15 I gasped. LOL I bet if it ran for ten youd get the same or similar results to Hugh.
Realised after getting my ninja dual basket airfryer, my old cheap one acted like a jet engine sending alot of hot air at high speed straight out behind it. But the ninja got angled vents so the hot air goes back up to the inlet. Now im no expert but seems like one of those things that will add up over some years of usage
I've had a tefal actifry genius XL for several years now, the original round one, downsides, its an odd shape to sit on the work surface and its not all singing and dancing. Simple works for me so I wouldn't bother with the ginger if it ever needs replacing but I think id go a bit more above £20 and get a warranty.
A fun fact about frozen chips; they already fried them at the factory, that's why they already look cooked, cos they deep-fry them followed by flash-freezing (think air frying in reverse, using some stupidly cold air in a big freezer conveyor belt thing) and then bag 'em up claiming they're the healthier option to deep-frying, apart from the bit where they already deep-fried them... :P
I love my air fryer. I went from the ninja that was an air fryer and pressure cooker 2-in-1, to the chefmaker that has the temp prob and a few other fun features. Sometimes you just need to look and you can find ones that have features and ideas that some of the more expensive ones just didn't think of.
Saw the thumbnail and was a little excited as i have the "expensive" one. It has some limits I was surprised by when I made things at home but as for shortcuts, hold down the time or temp buttons to jump to max or minimum also, the vents on the back will almost cook anything so be very mindful of its space.
I think the chips would have been fairer if you did one of the Ninja basket with the settings of the package and one in the max crisp, but I reckon you didn't want to make too many.
Thank you for such an interesting video. I live in Canada and my air fryers are in fahrenheit so I had to keep converting the temperature. LOL I have two air fryers - a small Ninja that I've had for a few years and a larger, cheaper model that would be comparable to your "Hugh". I use one or both of them them practically every day. I love the idea of the dual Ninja because that would be sufficient for most days as there are only two of us. One of the best uses of the larger air fryer is that I can do a small chicken in it and it turns out wonderfully. I wouldn't be able to fit it in my small Ninja or one basket of the dual Ninja. I don't know how we survived all these years without air fryers. They definitely are a game changer!
I can't believe the UK still has an issue with Ninja. It's very strange to me to see that censored in this day and age. But I guess we know what the air fryer's name will be!😂
@@gwenp3450 we don't have a problem. It's just a joke. You can buy all kinds of ninja products including TMNT products that say ninja. And fart ninja toys which you can probably walk past and set off on the way to the TMNT products 😂
I love my Foodi Ninja airfryer, its also a pressure cooker! Don't forget to preheat! When you are air frying chicken, put it skin side down first, then turn half way for the best crispy skin.
The Hugh jokes in a British accent kinda throw me, because there's another British TH-camr I follow - Biffa Plays Indiegames - and for the City Skylines video there's always "Hugo there" and such jokes, because one of the earliest NPCs was Hugo. So hearing Barry say "Hugh go in there" immediately makes me think of Biffa!
Although I have an 8qt ninja foodi & absolutely love it & use that most of the time. My new Samsung electric slide in stand a lone range. The oven part has an air fryer function, and that is great for cooking multiple things for multiple people.
Mate, I bought the Sage Smart Oven that I saw you use when you were just moving in and I could not be happier. A lot cheaper than Ginger, but can do soooo much more than just air fry. Maybe you could compare them if you still have the thing? My money's on Sage.
I use a Ninja, love it because I can do veggies at one temp, and meat at another, and can roast and air fry at the same time. I hardly ever use my oven, just mainly for baking, or ribs, which won't fit in my Ninja. Only drawback is it's a pretty big machine, hard to find a place to store it.
As all fryers are basically just a heating element with a fan there’s not much in them apart from build quality - all the settings on the more expensive ones are just presets, they don’t change the way the heating element and fan work whatsoever.
All presets do is set the temp and fan speed to a predetermined default. In their most hairdryers can do that without presets. The Nija isn't doing anything special with it's presets, but in general Airfry/max crops is the hottest/higher fan speeds to circulate the air faster than the roast/bake presets for example.
Hi barry. i hope you are well? i have just got a new airfryer from B&M for 79 pound & for the price its realy good. the brand of my airfryer is Tower & it holds 8 litres & it's a dubble draw one as well. The draws also has windows on them so you can see your food cooking as well. The airfryer that i have mentioned was on sale. i just thought I'd let as i am loving thease video.
With the max crisp setting you have to adjust the time as well as temperature. As if it’s too high a heat while still being the same time as 200 it’ll brown way too quickly
@@mrbarrylewis ahhhhh I didn’t know that when you said I followed what it said I thought you meant the instructions on the back of the chips 😂😂 that’s where I went wrong. I loved the video though! Please make a video called the air fryer pub with all the names you’ve given them!
My Ninja dual basket Foodi was not outrageously expensive, even though I'm in British Columbia, Canada. Yes, things are outrageously more expensive here than the UK. Mine cost me I think about $175 but of course since I bought it about a year ago, it's gone down significantly in price. I think you can in some places get it for around $130. Having two baskets is great becuase you can cook two different things at the same time at different temperatures. You can also set it to finish cooking in both baskets at the same time, even if you need to cook each item for a different length of time. I love it. I use it for roast potatoes and roast carrots or parsnips. I pour some oil in a bowl, and season it with salt, garlic powder, sometimes italian seasoning but also with some herbs. Toss the potatoes in the oil and then put them in the basket. I don't par boil them first. I do the same with the carrots, keep the carrot chunks quite big. I do both for 30 mins on bake or roast. It doesn't really make much difference. It can burn things at the edges though. I usually do them on 390. I usually pause it at 20 mins to check on things, and then put them back for the extra 10 mins.
Barry do you have a smart meter? Could you let us know what it costs to run per hour? As I’m interested what 10 hours would cost. Maybe a TH-cam short?
I have 2 Ninja air fryers. A 2 bucket one and a single bucket. Love them both! On the 2 bucket one, the bucket on the right seems to cook a hotter than the one on the left. If yours does the same, maybe that's why the Max Crisp overcooked the fries? Just a thought! Cheers!
To be fair Baz, only ninja does AirCrisp so the instructions are correct. Max crisp just allows you to cook faster. Everything in usually 5mins faster in a ninja I feel than on any instructions. Keep up the great work Jamie from Newcastle
As others mentioned I feel like the chips test was a bit unfair. While I know you followed the Ninja instructions stated in the book butI don't think those instructions accounted for using pre-browned chips like the ones you used. Your test did indeed show that the max crisp function absolutely did it's job. I used a standard air fryer for ages and upgraded to the same Ninja you have. I think my favorite feature is being able to set the 2 baskets for different things and even have them finish at the same time even when doing things that need different times. great video Barry!
For an even more expensive air fryer, the Dreo ChefMaker is an excellent option...it comes with a probe and even a water tank and can cook things such as steak and salmon almost on a sous-vide style setting.
For me it's not about the air fryer ability, it's the quart size that matters most. We are a family of 4 and the dual Ninja allows us to cook an entire meal with protein and veg in one (maybe two) go's. 'Hugh' would be ideal for an apartment set up, single or couple.
Did you read the chip packet? I'm eating them right now and the packet says for 2000w air fryer 8 minutes, 1700w 8 minutes, and 1400w 10 minutes. All at 200c
You should try one of the rack based ones - no 'bucket', just racks like a conventional oven AND a viewing window (and light). I've had one for a year plus and you can squeze a sunday roast for 2 into it - roast potatoes top rack, chicken legs middle rack, yourshire puddings in carefully researched tin on the floor... Fish and chips for two or 3, no problem. And it's barely bigger than Alan, just a rectangular footprint. Think I paid about £80 for mine (Daewoo branded) but I've seen the same machine with Tower branding...
The "roast" function is just a preset temp for roasting, once you change that preset temp to something lower then your just "air frying" as far as i can find info on. And lets be honest its just a small fan oven. All these "functions" are just easy settings, you can just set the time and temp once you get used to it. Good for people who don't really understand times and temps, or are not used to their air fryers. Other than that its just another selling point, as is with most appliances that claim "6 in 1" things. Most modern ovens (fan assisted) can claim 6 in 1 if an air fryer can.
@@mrbarrylewis I saw your link in the description which leads to the DZ201 model. I believe this is a US model, which is probably the reason why the price is so high. The UK equivalent is the AF300 costing much less but it's the same thing. However it looks like you are using the UK version in the video as it is showing Celsius and not Farenheit on the box and on the unit. (did it come with a UK plug? Also the US variant is 110v)) so perhaps they just sent you an AF300 yet you paid way too much for it.
The problem with buying something off wish, or temu etc, or even a 3rd party seller on Amazon, is that it's gone through absolutely NO UK safety checks. I ordered a tower extension lead thing off Amazon, only had two things plugged in, and it caused a fire. Luckily I was awake and noticed it immediately, but Amazon wouldn't take any accountability, had me going round in circles for the bare minimum, which was a refund, but genuinely did not care that a product they sell was faulty and could have caused a tragedy (it was in a room where me and my baby sleep). You're ALWAYS best off, buying from a UK retailer who has to adhere to real safety standards of electrics, and who you can hold accountable if something goes wrong.

Thanks For this Barry! Love your content ❤❤❤
Air Fryers are the way to go. I have 2, my first cost £60 in a sale and my second cost £25. I cant see any real difference between the two cooking wise. the only differences are the draws (same capacity), one is square and the other is round. so I use the square one for meats or fish and the round one for chips or veg.
I believe the home kitchens of the future will only need 4 electrical items in it. an Air Fryer, Microwave, Kettle and Toaster.
you forgot a massive point : the expensive one fries also some idiots ego that they spent more money and it makes them feel better about themself :D
Barry you should get the Ninja ol701 Foodi 14-in-1 smart XL with smart lid 8 qt It air frys and it is an instant pot
Check out the Ninja EzView AirFryer Max XL if you want a clear window.
The 2nd drawer is warmer than the the first drawer. Max crisp is also meant to be used after you've finished cooking nornally to crisp up the food.
why is the 2nd warmer?
@ not ideal just seems to be a few degrees warmer than the first drawer
@@valentine75 Okay, I thought there was a common problem you mentioned
We paid £129 for our Duronic Dual Air Fryer on Amazon, which came with the dual drawers (5ltrs each) AND one 10ltr drawer (with a divider) and it has the viewing windows too. We have used it every day since we bought it and even got rid of our main oven (as we never used it since we bought the Duronic.)

There are only the two of us and so that is all we need! TFS and have a good evening! 👍💖 ** EDIT ** Just went and checked on Amazon and the price has reduced to £118.74 for the version we have. (you can choose between the models!!)
Great air fryer, Duronic, bought the white one to match our kitchen, 2 x 4. 5 drawers plus large 9 ltr
No complaints so far.
I bought yesterday the Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone 2 x 4,75 L for £140,4 (168€). Used no name brands for almost 12 -13 years. But the Duronic also look great, I like the windows and that it also has a large drawer
I love the air fryer s with viewing windows and light * i got 7.6 single drsw like that!!
Barry, my family adores you. ESPECIALLY my 2-year-old. He’s mesmerized. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
Ginger? I thought it was just me, so I asked my daughter what she heard. Yep, it's a Ginger air fryer. Barry, are you gas lighting us?
I had to play it back 3 times to make sure I was going crazy 😂
I am hearing the same thing!😅
I heard Ginger
He doesn't often say the brand names of things so changes them. Even with Betty crocker he calls it cretty bocker.
Ginger Ninja. It's a saying
thank you for putting in the work of doing the captions, Barry! no apologies for mistakes necessary, we appreciate the effort you put into everything 😊
Please tell me I'm not the only one the always uses the same temperature for everything and just change the time 😂
I bought the Instant Pot Air Fryer, 6 Quart but I bought it on sale for 50 less. Life changer and everything so far as come out perfect. This is a good example that I may have saved a little money. But, at the price I got it.. it was a really good deal and a larger square cooking area. Great video as always Barry!
cheers
I can't believe I have been excited for this airfryer battle, the air fryer arc has been a good one, true masterclass in storytelling.
Lol it's up there with The GodFather
Meanwhile, somewhere else in Weston-Super-Mare: "Why are the lights flickering?" - "Mh, I think Barry's testing some kitchen appliances again." 😂😂
Can confirm
I have the same ninja as you tested. honestly i have not used anything except the air fry function.
I do love it though. For me the big plus is that i can make potatoes or fries in one drawer and grill some veggies in the other.
Yeah a few friends have them too and were keen to see the dehydrate function!
Barry’s wallet taking the hits so we don’t have too. Bless this man.
True story!
Hahahaha, Barry detecting the irony, so we don't have to
Barry. "I did exactly what it said" -- after setting it forty degrees ABOVE the instructions. If you increase the temp, you have to decrease the time.
Nope! I did exactly what it said for frozen chips in the manual! Of course 200c is the normal method as per Hugh but I wanted to test that function!
@@mrbarrylewis Sorry! I must have mis-heard! I thought it said to cook them at 200.
@@mrbarrylewis but did you take into consideration that you had about half a portion in it? 15 minutes would have been fine with a family sized portion, but when you do less you need to decrease the time accordingly.
He even said that that tempurature and time is for "other air fryers".
Ive had one of these Ninjas for a while now and i love it. The only time the normal oven goes on is for pizza and thats only cos its too big to fit in the ninja. No more struggling to bend down to the oven and trying to grab trays with mits, just pull the drawer out and off you go.
Upgrade to an Instant VersaZone, in single drawer mode it's large enough to fit a 25 cm pizza.
@@BuinidhMoChridheDoAlba It's all good! Just how I decided to try out that functionality, certainly made it max crisp!
I have 4 air fryers (2×cosori and 2xninja) and the 2 drawer ninja is my use every day without fail one. Love it
I always follow instructions from the food package, not device's manual. For example, those fries say they are done in 8min at 200C. As you did notice, they were already prefried much darker than standard frozen fries.
If there is no air frier instruction, you can usually use oven instructions -10C and halve the time as starting point.
Don't you mean Jinja? Haha yeah i'll have to do a Ninja off perhaps!
@@mrbarrylewisNinja speedi is unbelievable.

I truly believe any air fryer that's not a ninja that you buy is just a stop gap until you pay the extra and get a ninja. I've got the Flexidrawer and it's brill.
Ninja oven is amazing.
Inhave the dual basket ninja.. and the ability to cook two items at the same time is wonderful, the time is much longer as the pwoer is shared between the two baskets.n if you cook fries in jist one basket you can have them done in much shorter time as the on vasket can handle all the power.
Sounds good!
Thanks :) It was a fun video
You should have reduced the time if your using Max Crisp or reduced the temp. Not sure that was a fair test. When I cook frozen chips and use max crisp 10mins is pretty much all you need.
hey yep, the longer version of this video I explain a lot more that I'm just following what it said in the manual! I was surprised it said 15 mins too, but hey, just testing it! If this was a branded video I would not been allowed to keep that scene in! Didn't expect them to come out that charred though but was entertaining and just the option I chose to test that functionality!
@@mrbarrylewis Fair do's then.
I have a big one similar to the Ninja but the 2 baskets can be turned into one huge one. I love it.
When the instructions say 200 for 15 mins, and you do 240 for 15 mins, what do you expect to happen, of course it’s gonna burn, not a fair test at all
I'd already seen that the air fry function worked a charm with the asparagus.
@@mrbarrylewis Max Crisp is for heretics that like burned food. Max Crisp is also an excellent name for a prog rock band
Exactly, max crisp should not be used like that. I use it for a quick browning on the top for no more that 5 mins
Sounds great!
I skipped that Ninja just because it's too big, but I love my Cosori which has two heaters (above and below), that might be a good test Barry! it's called the Dual Blaze.
Cheers, will have a look :)
I have that one, it's brilliant for baking cakes
Hi Barry,
I have been using an air fryer since 2012 and it changed my life back then.
My mum got me that Ninja one for my birthday this past May! It’s amazing!! Looking forward to this one. 😍🤩
you should be able to stack parchment on top of different layers of fruit slices to dry more at once, should also prevent some stickage
Getting so close to that 1 Million Subscriber mark! Woot!
Yep I really liked the dual basket thing, very cool!
@@mrbarrylewis Oh just got to the part where you mentioned you liked the viewing window. The Cosori with the dual baskets has that too!

Yeah that was one of the foods on the list to be fair! Liked the banana, was like having a dried banana but fresher tasting, much nicer!
Barry should make some bespoke treats for the pugs. I do it for ends of beef from joints and the like and it makes some great jerky (air fry for a minute at the end and it cures it effectively for 2 months)
You sure about the timings on the chips? I've got a bag in the freezer, and it says 10 minutes at 200C for my 1400W Philips...
I have that exact same model of Ninja and i love that thing ! AF300UK 😊

We always play around with the timings on the Ninja, so it's not just you. 😊
We use the 'SYNC' feature a lot now, so it's worth having. 😊
We recently bought the flexi drawer and prefer it to the model you tried.
YES! You’ve made my night with this upload!
0:13 did you say Ginger airfryer? 😂
Lol, I'm not the only one who heard “ginger air fryer.”😂
Please do the tower air fryer with the rotisserie function, kebab skewers and rotating chip basket!
I thought you were saying ginger air fryers hahaha
Me too.
Same 😂
Definitely saying ginger
He is. 😅 At 4:50 it's deffo "ginger".
All of his gadgets have a name…
So is it just the air fryers with the rotisserie and rotating basket option, that you have left to test out?
Yes! And Nuggets etc too
I love my air fryer.
Good call, but we'd already proven that the air fry functionality worked with the asparagus test :)

The great puns and obscure references are what keep me hanging on to this channel!
They are all super heated air blowing around a small compartment. How much is there to improve?
This isnt the 90s we don't need to censor ninja anymore. Man I remember teenage mutant hero turtles.

The good ones do change things, like fan speed.
All presets do is set the temp and fan speed to a predetermined default. In their most hairdryers can do that without presets. The Nija isn't doing anything special with it's presets, but in general Airfry/max crops is the hottest/higher fan speeds to circulate the air faster than the roast/bake presets for example.

I picked up a Tower 2 basket air fryer and we literally use it every day. So good and much more affordable than Ninja with mostly the same features.
I have a Salter air fryer which has 2 compartments and windows, I love it. I wonder if that's the one Barry has ordered.
Cheers!
Those roast potatoes look amazing. I think I will start doing mine in the air fryer!
To be fair Baz, only ninja does AirCrisp so the instructions are correct. Max crisp just allows you to cook faster. Everything in usually 5mins faster in a ninja I feel than on any instructions.
Keep up the great work
Jamie from Newcastle
I’ve got one of the dual bucket Ninja ones. I use it most days. Wonderful machine
Absolutely caned those chips with that max crisp setting! Almost had another grilled cheese toaster moment! 😁😁
For an even more expensive air fryer, the Dreo ChefMaker is an excellent option...it comes with a probe and even a water tank and can cook things such as steak and salmon almost on a sous-vide style setting.
That's not a air fryer, it's a smart convection oven with steam function.
23:58 did you pay almost £400 for the ninja? That model is usually under £200.
£320 at the moment, but there are so many different models. Plus it's prime day so may be some bargains about!
@@mrbarrylewis which model is it?
@@mrbarrylewis I saw your link in the description which leads to the DZ201 model. I believe this is a US model, which is probably the reason why the price is so high. The UK equivalent is the AF300 costing much less but it's the same thing. However it looks like you are using the UK version in the video as it is showing Celsius and not Farenheit on the box and on the unit. (did it come with a UK plug? Also the US variant is 110v)) so perhaps they just sent you an AF300 yet you paid way too much for it.
Wow, mine cost $249 Aussie dollars a couple years back. And it's still about that now. And you did have it up way too high for the chips
i forgot how much your microphone quality has improved since that worm viveo
Early here! Your Air fryer series is amazing Barry! Keep up the good work
It would be good comparing these to an air fryer oven with shelves rather than pull out drawers such as the tefal 9 in 1
