Please note that these are normally shot using 5.6mm/GP90 ammo and not .223. These rounds were specifically designed for the sig550's series and offer greater stability in air resulting in higher precision. I have shot and compared standard 5.56 and 5.6 ammo at a 300m range in Switzerland. The difference between those rounds in this rifle is pretty big.

Speaking of classic police snipers there's two I really want to see, one is an extremely rare one but my personal favorite bullpup sniper design of all time. The Walther WA2000 in .300 Winchester Magnum. Another police sniper but this time also used by the Australian army and my personal favorite bolt action sniper rifle, the Blaser Jagdwaffen R93 Tactical 2 in .338 Lapua Magnum.
I owned a Sig-550-2 for about a year (2002-2003 or so) and for me at the time, it was a Grail rifle. I liquidated a lot of guns to buy it (going rate at the time was north of $8k) and bought about a dozen extra mags, a scope mount, and thought it was the bees knees. Until I shot it. At that point, the rose colored glasses shattered. It was extremely nose heavy, heavier (subjectively) out front than a heavy barreled A2 and the balance just didn't work for me. The bipod seemed a bit overly tall and made it uncomfortable to shoot prone and don't even think about shooting it off a bench using the bipod. But what really did it to me was when the whole "Swiss Accuracy" myth was shattered. The best groups we could get, on average, were ~2MOA, some smaller, some larger, but a free float AR from a decent manufacturer was printing much better. There was a certain amount of cachet that it brought to the table when you took it out of the case. You knew that no one else would have one, and short of the FAMAS (or the rumored 1 to 3 SA-80s that were supposed to have been imported but no one ever saw), it was perhaps the most unique combat rifle of the era. That said, someone offered me considerably more than I had in the entire package about a year after I bought it and out the door it went.

I really enjoyed the talk at the end discussing the twist rate and employment methodology. Both topics I had in my head the entire video. I agree with your assessment. The MK12 is a better modern day tool.
Ref barrel twist, I've a Remington 78 bolt 223 with a 1/12 twist (scoped) that is capable of less than 1/2" three shot groups at 100yds using Hornady 60gr TAP ammo. This ammo is flat base, and the barrel is decently long at 20". I'd always thought 1/12 would only stabilize 55gr and below.
Yea what people don't understand is that the SIG550 is specifically made to fire the special Swiss 5.6/GP90 loads but still able to chamber 5.56mm and in fact, almost all Swiss SIGs from the 550 series can fire both ammunitions well. It was stated that in good conditions with the 5.6mm, a normal 550 can square up to just 1.10 MOA or even tighter groupings at ~ 0.95 MOA and for a semi-auto rifle, that's PSG territory and it's a real good rifle. Also, the purpose built for the 550 Sniper was totally different and the philosophy was the same behind the 5.6mm rounds. So unlike other nation where they think of long range shots before anything else, the Swiss had a different philosophy. When they tested out the original standard 5.56mm of that time, they soon realized that the capability of it fell drastically even from the M16 of that time at 350m which was something they can't take as their ideology was to shoot at one mountain range (alps) to another range which the average gap between them would be about 400-500m apart, surpassing the rifle ability that they tested. So, the Swiss came up with a plan and started to make a heavier 5.56mm bullet with just finer powder that burns more efficiently and then slap it into their rifle. What they soon realized was that the 550 prototype that they fired it with soon achieved great MOA scores of about 1.40 - .1.8 with various shooter with the 5.6mm caliber and also somehow able to chew up the normal NATO SS109 5.56mm at that time too. With the normal SS109, the same set of shooters were able to get a range of 1.6 - 2.10 MOA which, for an assault rifle of that time, was extremely on par with the M16 and even surpasses many other 5.56mm rifles from other nation like the HK33 and even the bullpups like the AUG and FAMAS. However, the Swiss soon realized that the GP90 might be superbly expensive to manufacture for the general masses of the Swiss army thus they just issued the rounds for Swiss military competitive shooters, sniper units in the military and police units whereas the others use the 5.56mm that the Swiss themselves could readily get from either the US or any other NATO allied countries.
I just love our little talks, Henry-- 🖒😎 Btw, re: buying this rifle-- in a practical sense, I tend toward not buying uber expensive rifles whose job can be done better by lesser expensive, yet still good quality rifles. Not trying to be mean, I just don't like spending money on firearms just to collect them, fwiw I prefer all of my weapons to not only please me aesthetically, but be extremely practical, as well. Perhaps that will change in the future, I don't know...
Just an Idea you guys should do an SMG practical accuracy to 150-250 yards with SMGs, Long barreled pistols and Machine pistols. Starting with 50 75 100 125 150 etc. Also we want an M1 30 Carbine on the 500 course real bad btw. Just an idea that would help your channel hit a like if you agree. It would be cool to see what an 8.5 inch 44 magnum with a scope would do an a 200 yard course or a MP5.
Hi guys, VERY good point about the use of the gun. I never saw this crap in the Swiss army. Also never heard that it is in use with any Swiss police force... Probably tested for a while. With an SG550 in good condition we shoot frequently (with a 4x scope) at 600m and the hit rate was +/- 85% at the first shot. This was with a standard SG550. I have to say that standard Swiss GP90 amo will be considered as "sniper" amo in every other country. SG550 is probably still one of most accurate military "trooper" rifle yet. But I have to admit that this 550 "sniper" is a real piece of crap for the price. There is nothing that justified this price difference. A 25" barrel will newer be more accurate then a 18/20" one. Would had been interesting to see results with GP90 amo. Cheers

This is a very nice rifle to have a friend own. I don't have a role for this rifle that is not much better and more economically filled with a HB ar or a Remington 700 . A 1 in 7 to 1 in 9 twist medium to heavy barreled AR with a Wylde chamber is hard to beat for heavier bullets at these ranges. I do consider the Remington slightly more precise even with the slower follow up and overall rate of fire.
I would buy it. Only if it was able to snap shot at 100m with in a 3" of center. I would prefer a 7mm aka 30 cal variant. 1.8 twist to 2 with a long heavy 20" barrel to help harmonising projectile to flight path. If the barrel walls are too thin the projectile rattles and deharmnises with its intended path. No matter how tight the fit in battery. I like Henry's lever. They have heavy barrels, consistent groups through all kinds of ammo. Anyways fen-shway great content.
looks like a repost here... I have of course liked because of the content. I will say that the first shots at 500, somebody didn't wait for his observer to say quite clearly "low - Right" as that was obvious to us on the viewing end. 55 gr projectiles on a heavy steel target. No movement. But you could tell. I would love to see you try this on Prarrie Dogs at medium ranges. I'll bet they would be pretty effective. Thanks again and I'm glad to see that you didn't die at the beginning. ;)
The climate has changed so much. 5 years ago, absolutely! Now, doubt it! Practical rifles "daily drivers " and ammo seem to take precedent over the collectibles when it comes time to count out the green. Especially now when I have a real fear of shrinking availability of imports and even the domestic Semi-auto platforms.. The last couple of years has shown me a glaring fragility of the firearms market and left me more likely to spend 5k on food and components for my favorite toys to ensure future needs. Rounds per year x Cost per round x life span = a hell of a lot of ammo... & Good target ammo is expensive to load or buy. I enjoy Josh's main type of shooting but Henry's specialty is more enjoyable and satisfying to me!
Was the removal because I and another person was discussing INSAS and SLR rifle barrel twist and some bullet specifications I also linked a website with specifications and sale details.. I hope our discussion did not cause it. If so sincerest apologies

I just love our little talks, Henry-- 🖒😎
Btw, re: buying this rifle-- in a practical sense, I tend toward not buying uber expensive rifles whose job can be done better by lesser expensive, yet still good quality rifles.
Not trying to be mean, I just don't like spending money on firearms just to collect them, fwiw
I prefer all of my weapons to not only please me aesthetically, but be extremely practical, as well.
Perhaps that will change in the future, I don't know...
Gun_Jesus with a FAMAS that's a really nice touch
Good, it's up again!
Sweet looking rifle!
Subscribed, despite the ongoing trends. Love your objective & funny review.
Good to see its back
We love you Henry!
Always Love your videos! Was just watching The Bourne Identity and started looking for this rifle. I have a Sig 556 and absolutely Love it!!!
Heck yeah. Would love to buy one. Thx.
This gun looks so cool
dewtail of gun jesus using the FAMAS in the CS intro
Been watching for 3yrs great job 👍👍👍👍👍
Just an Idea you guys should do an SMG practical accuracy to 150-250 yards with SMGs, Long barreled pistols and Machine pistols. Starting with 50 75 100 125 150 etc. Also we want an M1 30 Carbine on the 500 course real bad btw. Just an idea that would help your channel hit a like if you agree. It would be cool to see what an 8.5 inch 44 magnum with a scope would do an a 200 yard course or a MP5.
It's back
Glad to see it made it back
... after seeing a few of these practical accuracy videos, i would love to do this course with my ruger ranch rifle.
Quite frankly, great review sir.
"Boom! .... Everyone goes home except for the terrorists." These are the callbacks of greatness.
Love this gun SG550 and AR family SG552 since I play CS1.6 in my child's time.
Love the content, and I love my slate black industries stop and panels! Thanks gents!
Cheers
Die SG550 Sniper wurden explizit für die Polizei gemacht und waren ab den 90er Jahren bis Anfangs 2000 im Einsatz.
Danach verschwanden sie aus den Arsenalen der Schweizer Polizei.
@@marcelfurrer5076 Police certainly don't need anything like that in Switzerland. When was last time the plice shot anyone in this country ? Probably decades ago.
Woah what's with the reupload? Now I know the reason why it wasn't here when iI was going to watch
Susan did Susan things and took down the video for seemingly no good reason.
Now it's back online.
Too cool for new school
This is a very nice rifle to have a friend own. I don't have a role for this rifle that is not much better and more economically filled with a HB ar or a Remington 700 . A 1 in 7 to 1 in 9 twist medium to heavy barreled AR with a Wylde chamber is hard to beat for heavier bullets at these ranges. I do consider the Remington slightly more precise even with the slower follow up and overall rate of fire.
If I had the money then yes mostly as a collector and fan of classic sig products.
The new gun Sig 750 Creedmoor! Awsome
yes, i would buy...accurate enough and the cool factor!!
looks like a repost here...
Thanks again and I'm glad to see that you didn't die at the beginning. ;)
Woooo! Welcome back!
can't wait for you to get your hands on a PSG1.
Great video! I don’t think I would ever buy one but pretty cool. A Recce rifle does it for me just fine.
Some great accuracy 👌..Pretty impressive
At 4:30 did someone in the background blow off a finger or toe?
Rumor has it this is the most accurate rifle ever made, Shame I'll never personally know.
I would buy one of those if I had the money boi that thing is beautiful
the amount of bearing surface on the projectile also effects spin stabilization
Love to see a swedish mauser in action.
Welcome back, my comment is here to serve
Everyone forgets that projectile length is a huge factor in stability more than projectile weight
Finaly. Love it!
Rounds per year x Cost per round x life span
= a hell of a lot of ammo...
& Good target ammo is expensive to load or buy.
I enjoy Josh's main type of shooting but Henry's specialty is more enjoyable and satisfying to me!
theshootingcentre takes pre-orders in Canada. SG540 is one of the few non-prohibited black rifles in Canada.
Have you guys ever done the PSG 1? I know they are hard to come by but would love to see you guys run one if you can.
Alex C (TFB TV) was supposed to provide them a rifle to test but it never materialized.
Greetings from Ticino Switzerland! ;-)
Conard Bernhardt had a 550. He is the only person I have ever seen shoot a 10 shot off hand group of 1moa. He was a shooting machine.
next do carcano. that would be "fun" 😬
maybe test with 268 and 264 bullets to see difference
Was the removal because I and another person was discussing INSAS and SLR rifle barrel twist and some bullet specifications I also linked a website with specifications and sale details.. I hope our discussion did not cause it. If so sincerest apologies
thx for the video. sig 550 named fass90 in switzerland. without scope soldier train shoot 300 Meter.
Stuff happens all the time with camera equipment good review anyway & keep up the good work 👍🏻
Спасибо за видео, коммент для продвижения
To answer Henry's question if I would buy SIG 550-1: If my finances allow, Hell Yes.
