    Great video!! In Chile we used the SIG 510-4 (Stg 57) made by Berretta and the SIG 540 family made by FAMAE. Sweet guns. Some army units still use the 510 for training and DMR , and Carabineros (the National Gendarmerie Police) use it for border security in the mountains, after 60 years they shoot like the first day.

    We were given the prototypes to test in 1980 during my UOS (Non Com School) with the message “in a few years”.
    We then were the first reservist unit, Rgt Fant Mont 30, to be issued the Fass 90 as replacement of the Fass 57.
    January 3rd, 1990 at the Mercato Coperto in Giubiasco.

    Sometimes I feel I should have gone to Switzerland & done my military service when I was younger instead of taking the path in life that I did. Would have been fun to run around the mountains with one of those rifles.

    • @leoncampa

      The Swiss military is not what it used to be. Nowadays, most recruits are run on a budget, with no more than 10-20 shooting practices in total. The rest of the time is spent waiting around, guarding embassies (very boring), or the occasional civil service work such as helping out in hospitals during covid.
      Its no wonder many young ones prefer to skip the service altogether and opt for the shorter civil service or simply get excused for medical reasons.

    Any chance you know what steel they use for the upper receiver stampings or can please look it up? Curious to look up the mechanical and corrosion properties for the metal itself and compare vs other stamped designs like the G3 or AKM. Hoping you post more stgw90 content soon 😎

    • @DaletheStgwDude
      @DaletheStgwDude  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Unfortunately, I do not know what material specification and heat treatment is used on the stamped portion. Most likely, unalloyed or low-alloy steel is used, carburized and quenched. The receiver is also specially painted and coated for corrosion resistance instead of standard parkerizing or bluing.
      Given that this is a current production rifle produced by a private company, it would be impossible for me to share information on that.

    As it turns out, this gun's long-stroke gas-operated. But with a lower receiver & upper like a G3 or AR-15. Gets rid of the AK-style dust cover & has now a solid upper better for mounting optics. The recoil spring is also in the front part of the bolt carrier. So, that's 1 less extra part. Nope, cause the front of the bolt carrier is now 2 parts held by the charging handle. So, still 2 separate parts. Maybe they did this cause if they kept the recoil spring in the back they would've had to add another piece of metal to hold the recoil spring in one place like in the G36.

    it seems like the smaller the country the more precision they opt for and larger the country the less like russian vs swiss this is obvious or russian or chinese vs Finland

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably because smaller countries cannot maintain economy nor population to field armies large enough to warrant the mass production of good enough weapons, so therefore they specialise their armies and weaponry in order to make a smaller army stand better chance against bigger army.
      In practise it makes little sense since the larger power will always have more planes, more artillery and more tanks than you and it is these things that decide battles, not infantry rifles.

    • @VxNemesis
      @VxNemesis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The swiss shoot 300m as the main sportshooting discipline. And the vast majority does it with the service rifle. It was a prerequisite for all military rifles to be able to shoot competitively, since the k31.
      The comparison with the ak is good, since the M90 is functionning exactly like an ak but in a more refined package. Less rattling, fewer sharp edges.
      But the AK is accurate, the 7.62x39 limits the range because of poor ballistics but it's not uncommon for an ak (russian, east german or other properly built ones) to shoot 1moa if the ammo is consistent.
      The east germans had 5.45x39 "sniper ammo" aka proper match ammo. With that any well maintained east german AK with a scope was a DMR.
      With a regular russian military ak74 and military or barnaul ammo you have 100% hits on a man sized target at 500m, I'd call it more than acceptable accuracy.
