How I Score TOP GRADES with ACTIVE RECALL: A Practical Strategy

  • In this video, I talk about the practical strategy I've used for years to score top grades at university. It is a purely question-based, no notes, active recall method that helps you study less for your exams and still rank in the highest percentiles. This is the exact way I applied the 'Question Recall Method' for my exams and how you can easily do the same to get the highest grades possible.
    Unlike most videos, I show you how Maths, Chemistry, Engineering, and Humanities students can ADAPT this active recall method for their subjects too. And lastly, we dive into my real and honest experience of using these evidence-based study techniques in my everyday revision (both the ups and the downs).

    The 70 and 30% rule is a really good point that you don't hear being made often. So many of us who care about our studies tend to adopt a perfectionist mindset. The ability to relax and study in a more chill kind of way can be really beneficial and stress-reducing.

    This video is very underated. I agree with everything you say, after watching tons of 'how to study' videos. Also most of them doesn't specify the ones involved with calculations. It hit me hard when you talk about the part of identify what method to use to answer the questions involved in calculations like chemistry and physics. Definitely gonna try this, since I'm not a fan of taking notes for a few hours sitting on the table. I found myself burntout after just a week of doing that. You also mentioned how the other youtubers keep pointing out active recall and spaced repitition is the only best way to study and you said it's fine to relax sometimes with lighter study technique and have the 70/30 balance.

    hey asif, i have few question's for you, I'm a business student
    let's say I have a chapter to read, it's full of theory's.
    after done reading it once , and understand the things that need to be,
    1. should I make question's that will cover the whole chapter?
    2. I need to be careful making question,
    3. and do I need to write the answer to? or NoT?
    can you please help me out on this?

    • @zain_asif
      @zain_asif  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep making questions is the essential step so that next time you can test yourself on them.
      Make good qs similar to your exams yep and you can improve the quality with every revision you do so they don't need to be perfect.
      And nop no answers. When testing yourself later just use the actual chapters and google to find your answers. Having to find them makes it a much more active process

      I get what you mean tbh but try replicating the kinds of questions in your past papers. Make sure the questions you create address a certain subtopic in your syllabus or learning outcomes.
      Not all your qs will actually be good initially but the more you dive in, the better understanding you'll have of what's important and what's not. I end up changing my qs and improving them a lot as I revise and active recall over time. So don't worry about making them perfect :)

    • @zain_asif
      @zain_asif  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I make the questions while going through the text first time round. But doing a general skim of the content to get a basic understanding before making questions can be helpful too.
      Getting good at making qs takes a bit of time but remember to cover all important topics and copy the style of exam qs when making them.
