    As someone who started using this method of learning and studying - two things to keep in mind:
    1. Write all the dumb/ easy questions - don't underestimate them as they can help you understand the topics deeper
    2. Do this ahead of time - ideally after class - so you can work on repetitive recalling for the rest of the week.
    3. Once you feel comfortable that you know all the materials - get a whiteboard either physical or digital and teach the topics without looking at your notes. I loke to use Microsoft whiteboard and record myself too. This is how you know if you are truly an expert at the topic.

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    02:23 🎓 *Effective Lecture Preparation*
    - Before the lecture, review learning outcomes to understand what will be taught, contextualize topics within the course structure, and prioritize important information.
    05:02 🤔 *Recall Questions Over Note-Taking*
    - Instead of extensive note-taking, convert lecture content into recall questions during class, actively engaging with the material and making the brain work harder.
    06:43 🔄 *Refining and Improving Recall Questions*
    - Refine and improve recall questions after the lecture using lecture slides and external resources, enhancing the effectiveness of future active recall sessions.
    07:11 🧠 *Active Recall Practice Sessions*
    - Prioritize active recall in revision sessions, answering questions, understanding gaps, and reinforcing knowledge through repetition and understanding.
    08:08 🚫 *Avoiding Perfect Answers*
    - Don't create perfect answers for recall questions; instead, refer back to lecture slides for a holistic understanding, preventing memorization without context.
    09:04 🔄 *Adaptation to Personal Learning Style*
    - Experiment, adapt, and personalize study methods based on individual learning styles for effective and efficient learning.

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    - Identifica lo que no sabes, revisa los materiales y vuelve a practicar.

    Hi! Thanks for the video! I've been trying to improve my study method for a while now. I'm currently studying medicine in Italy. Although I'd like to create questions and study with active recall, our exams are mostly oral and based on questions that require broader answers. At the same time though, I feel that creating questions like "the cardiac cycle" is a little bit useless and it doesn't help me memorize the details. I also tried mind maps (I can put everything from one topic on a page so I know what I have to say) but I feel too slow in creating them. Any tips?

    This has totally changed my way of studying, for the better. Thank you so much. One problem I have is that I still have some lingering fear when I write a question with no answer. I always am doubting if I have the answer 100% correct when reviewing and I ended up writing an answer anyway. Any tips on shaking this bad habit?

    • @zain_asif
      @zain_asif 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If I may add to this maybe try not writing it just don’t and find comfort in the fact that if you don’t have the answer rit here with you they will still be present in the module or textbook or lecture slides or any other reference material you use

    • @Higor_hgr
      @Higor_hgr 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I write the answers later, briefly and with keywords. To hide the answers, I write the questions using the title setting and leave the topic collapsed by default.
      I like to include the answers, as summarizing them helps me in the coding process.

    Your video is so helpful. You really called me out when you spoke on how one spends all their time making notes and then has no time to actually use them☺. I'm thinking on trying your method for my second semester of my first year of HL Biology. Quick queston though:
    My teacher's slides don't have much text, they're mostly pictures and graphs, so I don't really have solid written material to go back to if I don't make notes. Would you incourage me to use the recall questions method in my case? or should I stick with my notes considering my teacher's teaching style?

    • @zain_asif
      @zain_asif ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! If the slides don't have much info, then I'm assuming you make your notes from what the teacher's saying right? Just make questions instead :) For HL bio you can easily use the oxford textbook or andrew allott's revision guide as a resource to make qs too!

    • @zain_asif
      @zain_asif 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you!! It's completely dependent on how much time you have and how much you want to study for an exam. In term time these days, I practise Qs for difficult topics a 2nd time (after around a week max). But closer to the exams (3 weeks before approx.), I start testing myself on all Qs and start to do more regular revisions (harder concepts a lot more frequently than easier ones). Again, different approaches to this so do however much is needed for your own understanding!

    • @zain_asif
      @zain_asif 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! And yess it does seem to be a myth according to most studies ;) but as long as you're creating good questions and testing yourself in some way or the other you'll be able to effectively learn and retain content anyways.

  • @duketimi5397

    Hey zain, nice video. I have some questions you. After knowing the learning outcome, do you go straight to power point or textbook to read them? What sources are you using for scoping, is it powerpoint or textbook? And lastly, when do you make these questions? Is it before the lecture, during the lecture, or after listening to the lecture? Your answer will help me. Also it will be very helpful if you mention your workflow

    • @zain_asif
      @zain_asif ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use PowerPoints (or notes from older students) to scope ya. And I make the questions during the lecture and add more / improve them afterwards. Then I use these questions to test myself (that's the main reason I made them in the first place)

    • @zain_asif

      I usually don't because the resources (textbook/PPT/websites) I use to create the Qs already have very good answers to refer back to after I test myself.
      Plus, spending that extra time looking back at those resources ends up being really helpful for understanding concepts, for me at least :)
