Same. Solo mining in a MOLE, the remote access in the cockpit alone was a huge benefit. Larger mining lasers, with the ability to refine, and transport it's own materials? Uh, yeah, thanks!
My man, if content is king then you are king of the world, I can’t imagine the work you’re putting in to keep up this insane pace but thank you for the quality content.
As a MOLE miner and soloist, I have to get this, the core issues with the MOLE are fixed. Being able to all but the biggest vacuum asteroids and likely every last planet bound rock.
I love mining, and I frequently do Prospector-planetfarming and had my eye on the Arrastra for quote some time now. Would get one if it was coming out within the year! Thanks for the content Ninja!
When this ship went into concept sale - i bought one and was hoping the Medical Pisces would fit somehow - ---then the Nursa came to the game. Problem solved. Ill be out in this ship for days - deep space mining.
Saw the concept... and my mouse moved on it's own to the Purchase button. Can't wait for the Arrastra to get ingame. Only problem: There are too many Arrastras in my Org.
The only thing that I do not understand about this ship, and I hope they change it, is the lack of a mecial bay. It's a deep space mining sub capital industrial ship. Imagine owning a huge industrial vessel, employing a crew that will be away for weeks or months in remote space and not having a medical facility on board. It would probably be against the law to function in real life. The Medical ursa is a workaround but it still dosn't justify the lack of a proper fscility and it forces you to own and carry and I don't love that. I could be carrying anything else but I'll be forced to bring a Nursa.
the arrastra is going to be perfect for a small group of 2-5 players imo, being able to go mine all sizes of gems or rocks or visit a cave or bunker location for partake in fps combat when mining gets too dry. 😁 This feels like its going to be like the miners version of the carrack sort of.
Given what you say a 10 is, it made allot of sense to give it a perfect score. Love the look of this ship, likely the only mining ship I will ever keep in my fleet.
The ARRASTRA is an awsome industrial ship with great firepower and all the crew amenities. Not only can this ship make money as a Deep Space or Planetary surface mining vehicle, it also makes a great ORG base/command ship.
The pilot should control one of the mining lasers. If we're talking about a group effort, once you get the ship somewhere the pilot is essentially doing nothing. And that's not good for gameplay. If you've ever been in a group using a MOLE; the MOLE has the same problem. There's only so much maneuvering for a better angle you can do.
Ever since I first saw the Arrastra I kinda fell in loove - it just looks so great and sleek, especially for being an industrial ship. If it weren't for the price...
I love how it looks, and I love mining, it's versatility, at least for me, beats the Orion. The fact that you can go down to a planet's surface means you don't need another ship to sell your ores. It's keyword is versatility.
When I researched which mining ship I wanted, this is the one I picked. The Orion is a clear competitor, and it's only slightly more expensive. But, with its inability to land on planets and higher crew requirement I just couldn't justify it. Even if I had the crew for an Orion I just think I'd end up using the Arrastra.
I do like the mining game loop and my Prospector is a lot of fun. I hope they get the earning potential balanced between mining and salvaging to make it a little more tempting to get a ship like this.
I think the way the cargo will load is going to be one of the outstanding things about it. It looks like the clips come lower then you stack the boxes. This ship with a med base building vehicle would be great for setting up extractor farms or bases since you can mine plus haul materials and base building vehicles.
I'd love to see something like this with a combat version, where that huge central laser is like a size 8 or something, and it functions like a mobile turret. That said, this size and scale of mining seems like the kind of ship I'd want, especially with that built-in refining.Toss one of these in for any fleet and I think you're pretty solid for resource collection, even without scaling all the way up to the Orion.
I wasn't really paying attention to the give away, but I caught like, subscribe, and comment? And something about a Carrack. I really like the carrack.
Can't wait for this one, had a Mole and hated it with a passion... it can mine but it's so badly designed it hurts. Gladly jumped on this one when it came out, looks fantastic. As for the Orion, my issues with it were that it's only has 2 turrets for defense and probably got the scan shadow of a small moon... whenever you enter a system, everybody will know you just jumped in, meaning you'll need an escort, i've got 4 people so far, just not enough.
If that's your game loop, the Arrastra does look like a really cool ship. But I'm mostly solo, so it's way more than I need. Still snagged the OC paint, just in case.
Fine looking ship. Can't see it being effective in solo, but rather the mining heads being manned in order to access total potential, same as how Mole could do with an extra couple ppl for total rock breaking potential
I melted a few ships and CCUd my MSR to this ship and I give it a 9.5. I would give it a 10 if it had a t1 medbed. But the medical ursa can fit in it and I can toss in a m50, razor or the like to use as an escape raft if I needed.
I would say that the the RSI Arrastra has a really nice large-ship design. Almost odd that the max crew is only five citizens. Sure, you can bring a lot of mates - but would think it would have more stations. Even more odd that it does not have larger fuel-sizes for a longer mining-tour. However, look forward to playing with someone who gets it! :D
I suspect the Arrastra with its size 3 mining lasers will have trouble with mining smaller rocks in the Prospector and Mole range, and while it will be capable of terrestrial mining, I think it will be better suited for asteroids. With that said, I will always keep my Prospector, and a Mole, along with the Arrastra to keep my options open, depending on how many friends are available when I want to mine.
So I think that while the Orion will generate more total revenue I think the Arrastra might actually make a larger profit. The issue with the Orion is that it is much bigger. That means more crew all of whom need to be paid. It means more expensive parts, repairs, and refueling. It also can't land on planets which means you can't transport your goods to a final point of sale so you either need to transfer that cargo to another ship which takes more time or you have to accept leaving some profit margin on the table. And it means that you can't mine resources that might be exclusive to planetary deposits. The orion's bulk and huge size also means you're most likely just scooping up what ever you find because if you try to hunt for the good stuff you'll probably run out of fuel before you fill your cargo racks which means the Orion is just scooping up everything even the low value materials like titanium and corundum because that's just the most efficient use of fuel and finding more valuable deposits is really just a bonus if it happens. Meanwhile the Arrastra may have the ability to actually hunt for those valuable deposits and pick only the good stuff making each of those SCU a much higher return on average. All those factors combined might push the Arrastra ahead in terms of net profit over the Orion even if the total sum before accounting for costs is lower. Another way to look at it might be that an Orion will probably be a better money maker for a large Org but the Arrastra will likely be a better money maker for an small group of friends.
Any guesses on when it releases? I'd like to think soon, being that they are focusing on RSI and can release it without refining (since it's not in game). But that may just be wishful thinking.
Hard to guess until citizencon. I would hope next year because of the focus on RSI but I don't know how much we actually need another mining ship right now. They still have to figure out refinery gameplay as well.
Coming back to this video for the 5th time in my indecisiveness for IAE. I'm debating on downsizing my fleet as past me was way more gullible and excited for pretty ship releases. I built a CCU to an Orion years ago, but now I'm wondering if I should melt it and rock an Arrastra instead. The Orion might be too large of a scale for a 1-5 player group and the daunting idea of running a massive capital ship is very overwhelming at how SC is developing. Sure it will add more "value" to my account if I keep it, and the "what if" I'll use it down the line, but I'd rather focus on a definite than a maybe. The more time I spent playing solo and mining in a mole has me imagining what kind of headache running an Orion would be solo if possible at all. An Arrastra though? Feels like a solo miner's dream.
I know this is a mining ship, but dam it would also work as a combat ship of some sort with them looks too. P.s it does (technically) have 4 mining heads 1 on each arm, and a double mining head on the main (that is last I looked at it)
I'm 'probably' goign to have this in my fleet. I have no miner right now, and was looking at the Mole, but this adds so much more than just the mining. I'm hoping it's easy to run solo-ish like the Reclaimer is. I think the Orion would be too big (unless I can get a really good CCU going).

One advantage that the Arrastra has over the Orion is not requiring the crew size of a capital ship to run and maintain effectively.
...and I think it can still land planetside! Can't do THAT with an Orion! It's more of a "station" than a ship!
