    Man, my $275 Orion seems a better investment every year. One big advantage of the Arrastra over the Mole is that you can fit at least 2 Furies in the Arrastra garage and have them scout the area for good stuff while you're mining or you can use the time traveling between asteroids refining the mined ores.
    My recommendation would be to get the Arrastra and a Orion CCU. Decide when both ships are flyable if you want to apply the CCU or not.

    I think the Arrastra will be the ahip you go out mining in when you only have your crew on board and no escorts. This things should be more than capable of defending itself from smaller pirate groups. As for the lack if a belly turret, i think that was intentional because it is sorta made to fly closer to the ground, letting a planet or something protect the vunerable belly.

      In the pictures, it looks like side turrets have 4x S3 (that's how I understand it). Since this is not a combat ship, it's obviously not meant to ever meet a fleet of corvettes or something. A couple fighters will have to think twice before approaching though. There is ofc an option of just nuking it with torpedos. Still, those can be intercepted and the pirate risks losing the cargo which they are after (since even now S9 torp usually just absolutely obliterates the cargo).

    The Arrastra looks great. However, with taxes I'd be paying 600 euro for the warbond version. That's a lot of money for one in-game vehicle. And while CCU chaining might save some 30-50% off the price, 300€ is still a lot of money even if it's dripped in over a longer time.

    The thing is that this ship looks AMAZING and there's also another point that a lot of people are not considering...it's a deep space miner. Meaning that it's probably very well equipped for long distances. Why that's relevant? Because you could very well use it as an explorer that also happends to mine. Instead of ROC's you could carry other land vehicles. It really depends on some factors though that we don't really have yet, like the weapons and shields loadout. I know that's a miner ship but again, if you're going away for long distances to carry valuable rocks, you'd better be well armed and x6 S3's is not really coherent with that nor the size of this ship. I'd say that this ship needs at least x6 S4's and either one or two S3 shields. Only time will tell but I can see myself exploring the verse with this ship and mining here and there whenever I find something really valuable.

    • @2727daqwid
      @2727daqwid 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The pictures show the side turrets to have 4x (I assume) S3s. The back turret not sure, but hopefully it's the same. That's good enough for all fighters, and maybe even some medium ships if the shileds are good enough.
      It also looks like it may have a Large size radar, which makes sense since it will have to look for rocks at range. So it could be kind of exploration ship. Only issue I see here is that we don't know if it can refuel itself with quantum and hydrogen like the Odyssey. If it can't then it's a huge downside to this ship, unless it has some absurdly large fuel tanks.

    • @gabzsy4924
      @gabzsy4924 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@2727daqwid If it has around x10 to x12 S3's than I would agree with you that it'd be enough to deal with smaller threats if it also happends to have big enough shields. And yeah, the radar thing makes perfect sense, it's exactly what I was thinking when imagining this ship as a pseudo explorer, although CIG could make the mining radars different than the explorer ones to avoid people using some ships for roles not intented on the original design and that would be a bummer.
      On the side of it being able to refuel itself...well I really doubt it, and honestly it dosn't really needs to. The Carrack dosn't have a refuel system and it's still an explorer. The fact that this is a deep space miner already implies that it is perfectly capable to travel and remain on the field over long distances and time periods, so I'd say the fuel tanks are massive as they should be.

      @@gabzsy4924 I've read somewhere on spectrum from a dev that fighters won't be able to do anything to a larger ship or capital ship with their tinny pew pews when the armour is in. Then, you just turn on the two mining lasers that you *aren't* actively controlling (at minimal power) to apply whatever buffs/debuffs you need on the rock. Most of the actual active power adjustments are done from the single actively used turret.
      The big pain in this is how much running around you have to do between decks to do this on a MOLE. With the Arrastra's remote mining lasers all being controlled from chairs one the bridge, this becomes a lot easier!

    6:55 there are 3 remote turrets one on each side and one on the top rear which may be on a rail system that can move it to the bottom like the Scorpius. Each Turret has four Size 3 guns on it. So a total of 12 Size 3 guns. You can see it pretty clearly in the image at 7:19 in the video if you look at the starboard side (the side which is further away from the POV) where you can see 2 guns on the top half of the turret. In the same image if you look at the opposite side turret you can pretty clearly see 2 guns on the bottom half of the turret. So even though the lighting on a lot of the images sucks it's pretty clear that each turret has four size 3 guns.

      @@tropicthndr eh more than half the brochures they make for concept ships end up not being accurate anyway and end up having drastically different specs (especially when it comes to SCU capacity) some times even ending up with almost entirely different internal layouts. So like I don't think it's that big of a deal that it has less information in the brochure. Also a lot of the questions in the Q&A post on spectrum aren't even about the ship they are about gameplay systems and features that aren't even part of the game yet like player run refining mechanics and AI crew. As for the turrets they've changed how the classify turret size which I agree doesn't make any sense but still seems pretty understable to me especially when you match up what the specs say to what the images show.

    Nice video. We'll have to wait for the official Q&A, but a few observations / speculations beforehand. I think to keep this ship balanced against the Expanse and the Galaxy, there's a fairly reasonable chance that the onboard refinery will _only_ be able to refine the materials collected by the Arrastra. It makes it a good solo ship (as the marketing material emphasizes), but "less" good as a fleet ship where there are MOLEs / Prospectors / Expanses, etc. working in tandem.
    Secondly, regarding the remote turret. I'm fairly certain that during the ISC, they mentioned that the tractor beam turret is in the back of the ship, and is used to help in the loading of the rear cargo area, similar to the way that the turret works for the Spirit C1. That would mean that it _wouldn't_ be useful for moving around rocks / asteroids, or attaching mining bags from other mining ships (hence my earlier speculation regarding the refining limitation).

The Pilot is also the Refinery operator, separately you would have an Engineer and up to two ROC Drivers. --- $475 via WB CCU Chain from $45 donor. Arrastra is a high $$$ buy in. If you have a MOLE, you can earn an Arrastraroid miner reasonably quick. Like you said, if you have an Orion already, this ship is likely on its way to you already and you will have it well more than long enough to buy Arrastra in game.

  • @marvinfmr
    @marvinfmr 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I KINDA dissagree. Very Carefull there: Sure it is possible to melt in your Orion if you wanna go for the Arrastra later. But keep in mind what kind of purchase you did. Like me: Arrastra is a 560$ish Pledge, but thorugh CCU's my pledge is "only" worth 360$. So thats what I get when I melt in my Arrastra. So to get then to the orion (outside of IAE) is a pretty big stretch. But totally agree that the Orion will become more expensive. But it wont tripple. Absolutely not. I think the max that will come out, is that the Orion gets around 100$ more. And also that will happen over a longer term. not just "click" like this. But definitely its worth to have an upgrade laying around in the hangar.
    Now here comes the MOST IMPORTANT PART: My best advince I could give: Buy the Arrastra, and have a Orion Upgrade in the Hangar (Just dont apply it yet). It makes literally no sense to apply an Orion upgrade right now! Like really no sense at all. Young says here, that you will get the Arrastra as loaner as soon as it comes out for the Orion. Thats like 99.9% for sure. But, if you have the Arrastra you will have it either ways as soon as it comes out. And then you can decide rather to keep the Arrastra OR apply the Upgrade. And if you wanna stay with the Arrastra, you just can melt in or do whatever with the Upgrade. But getting BACK from the Orion to the Arrastra is a whole bunch of a bigger problem. Especially outside the time of IAE.

Also dumping someone else’s bags from anything smaller would just take up a refinery for functionally nothing

  • @ThatGuyKazz
    @ThatGuyKazz 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I don't agree with the assessment that the Arrastra still needs to be picky about what it picks up. Like if we look at Aluminum which is the cheapest minable commodity in the game right now it sales for anywhere from 230-338 once it is refined with the best place to sell it in bulk (ArcCorp) going for around 310 per unit. With the Arrastra having 510 SCU that is 51,000 X ~310 = 15,810,000 UEC even if we account for 10% of that going to fuel and maintenance that is still 2.8 million per person for a full load of the lowest price commodity. Even if we replace just 10% of that with Diamond which is the lowest priced mid-tier minable commodity it still comes out to just under 7 million UEC per person for a 5 man crew. So yeah I don't think the Arrastra is gonna need to worry about being picky if current commodity prices are anything to go by. Like I know these things are going to change eventually and prices will fluctuate but I just don't see a situation where the Arrastra isn't printing mountains of money.

Also regarding Arrastra vs Orion, Orion will need a fleet around it, not a single ship deal with that one. What I would do, if you want the Arrastra, is buy it, but also grab a CCU to the Orion but just sit on it, not apply it right away. I would get an Orion, but I see the Arrastra as a bigger mole, once you're in position you and maybe 2 buddies can just switch to the turrets and mine, occasionally 1 hops out to check the refinery jobs?
    With the Orion that's harder to do I'm sure, the Arrastra also has the benefit that it can still mine in-atmo, the Orion can't and is space-only.

I tried using it to mine other ores -but nothing else even justified the time and fuel and scouring. This new mining update changed that now that quant is even more valuable but Gold/ Bexalite / Taranite is right below what quant used to be.
      I can solo break rocks in the 50k mass range solo in the mole - where in my prospector i have to stick to around 20k and below. Different role's really. The Odyssey is an exploration ship that mines quantanium to refill its fuel reserves to continue exploring farther. The Arrastra is a full mining ship.
      Q&A question
      What materials can the Odyssey refine, and does refined material go straight to the fuel tanks or the cargo bay?
      The Odyssey can refine Quantanium and hydrogen into fuel. The refinery solely exists to extend the ship’s range, so refined fuel goes straight to the fuel tanks rather than the cargo bay.

The original docs talked about a 6-7 station process to munch a whole rock and I am betting CIG will find a way to make you need a minimum of that many people to do things. Arrastra to me sounds like something I can mostly manage solo, or if needed I can dual box pretty easily.

    We now know that it can get matherial for third parties for processing and we also know that the awesome 500+ SCU carrying capacity will not be limited to ore and mining matherials only, one can use it to transport cargo. We also know this beast has x2 large shield generators and x12 size 3 guns. It will also be able to carry two Ursas, and with the Ursa Medical coming out this Invictus I think this ship is one of the best ships ever made. You can do cargo hauling, exploration, have ground vehicles and a tier 3 medical bed, it can defend itself pretty well against smaller threats, you can also use it as a portable refinary only, where you buy unprocessed ore for cheaper, refine it and sell it yourself without having to mine, and of course, you can mine with this thing....overall, I'm super impressed and I think I will be upgrading my Galaxy to one of these. It even looks better than a Galaxy! The only issue I've seen with this ship is a lack of a secondary entrance, like a small elevator. It has a docking collar and a big cargo elevator and I feel that it's quite lacking for a ship this size. Please CIG, give us a small elevator that goes ground to bridge.

    As for the Quantanium time constraint, I'm pretty sure the moment it starts the refining job, it'll start stabilizing. So we probably won't have to worry about any explosions initially. I say initially because I'd actually like the refinement to be like a challenge. A mini game if you will. Where you have to put the right amount of chemical-X into the refinery to help stabilize the Quantanium. If you mess up, you risk losing some quant at the minor side, and causing some serious danage to yourself, the refinery or if you REALLY dick it up, the entire ship and crew.... This would be for the volatile ores only. Everything else will just lose some ore on the job for screw ups or something of that nature. Not sure how they're going to work this but i hope they consider something along the lines.

The ability to land on planets could provide an important niche for this ship. Once we have base building in game, planetary bases and construction ships should benefit from the ability to produce raw materials on site. The Orion would require additional logistics to deliver materials. Additionally, the Orion will probably be a gas hog and require a large escort.

    Imagine being someone who picked up a Galaxy with a refining module only for this thing to come out. The Arrastra seems a far better deal. I like mining, and I'd love to stay out on the range for long periods of time, bed logging between mining sessions, and slowly accumulating refined resources. This would fulfill the 'living and working on a space ship' goal.
    However, my friends wouldn't be into that, and I think having separate single-operator ships for mining and salvaging works better for us; and I doubt CIG will ever release a single-operator ship that can mine & refine. I think the Arrastra will be a great goal to work towards in-game using other utility ships; but I don't think it's a good buy unless a whole group of players is serious about mining gameplay, which is very casual and not really great for groups.

      It looks like we'll be able to swap between remote mining lasers pretty easily in the Arrastra. Just use two of the lasers (with specialized mining heads) to apply whatever buff/debuff you want on the rock (at minimal power) then use the third one actively to adjust power levels of the beam.
      People already do this with the MOLE; but, you have to run across multiple decks to line everything up. The Arrastra's controls all seem to be located on the bridge; aside from the refinery (which is advertised as being mostly automated).
