Since suffering a severe concussion, I have lost my desire and ability to pray well. As I heal, I realize that I just need to show up and invite Him in, and for this time of struggle, He will do the rest. Jesus, I trust in You. If you are struggling, just keep showing up to prayer and let the Lord work.
My brother or sister, last year I went through 6 months of concussion recovery, during which the evil one relentlessly tormented me. Just know that Jesus is with you every step of the way, and trust me-He WILL deliver you! ❤️✝️🛐
I've started praying at the holy hour I pray the Divine Mercy then the Rosary followed by the Seven Sorrows rosary then I read the word in the evening before I go to bed
That's a solid base of vocal prayer, at least four more stages of prayer to explore beyond that and, if God Allows, another four beyond that. Keep cooperating with Grace, we are rooting and cheering for you! Out of interest: what were you doing at holy hour before all those things?
@ctmcatholic Don't forget about the power of quiet contemplative prayer. Sometimes we must be silent to hear the still, small voice of God. See the writings of Theresa of Avila and John of the Cross or read about mental prayer. All conversations require a rhythm of give and take :) Amen.
When the apostles couldn’t get a demon out and asked Jesus He said “ not only praying but you need to fast also for you be able to take their spirit off”. That made me thing about the importance of fasting and as the Father said, you are telling the delicious meals “ you are not my God” as Jesus said” we don’t live of bread alone”. I like the way Father Columba describes deep things in a simple way. We started to do fasting once a week with my husband and it is not easy, specially in the long days of summer. When you do that you realize how attached we are of the material things, people in general think that material things as money only but not It is in anything outside ourselves that we need but that sometimes becomes more for instance the old adagio “ you need to eat to live but not must live to eat “. Gracias Padre!!!
I am not at peace if I don’t pray! I feel a stirring in my heart that I want to stay close to God and also get closer! I hope that we all feel and know that we cannot live without God.
I love been a Catholic but I know I will never get the full knowledge of ALL the faith. I really do know the basics but am striving to know more and more. It was the CFRs and their friends that have really strengthened my faith. I love that they live in my community. Thank you Fr. Coloumba for your tips. And thank you Katie (My Pro-Life friend) for being involved with this. God bless you all.
This was such a happy surprise. I am so excited for this series. It’s coming at precisely the right time. Thank you EVERYONE at CTM, and special thanks to Fr Columba, your heart has reached my heart in such an amazing way over the past few months.
For the last year now, I've been praying in bed at night until I fall asleep. Most peaceful sleep I've ever had in my life, and I fall asleep quickly every night instead of laying awake for hours. More than that, I actually *look forward* to going to bed every night now, because I enjoy the prayer routine so much.
“Hear O Israel the Lord is our God, the Lord is one” is considered one of the oldest prayers in Judaism, (named the Shema after the first word in Hebrew “Hear”) it’s fascinating to consider Jewish people still saying this exact prayer every morning and evening to this day. I think I remember a bible scholar interestingly note that in ancient Hebrew there was no separate word for “hear” and “understand.” The word encourages a real proactive attitude to understanding. Again, within its original linguistic context - it was often tied to acting upon and “obeying” what you heard, precisely because you understood it. Father Columba seamlessly weaves in the importance of “acting upon” and making an effort to build regular prayer, as a real example of loving or revering God. Thanks for the video, always good to hear from Fr. Columba ❤
Fr. Columba, you have delivered exactly what I needed right now. 🤯 I consider myself a faithful Catholic, and you have illuminated other things I am worshipping. Thank you. Bless you. 🙏💓
Father: This video is a life coaching lesson to the highest level. You are so correct Father in establishing a positive morning ritual that the brain gets use to. Your channel is beyond good father. You are nailing every concept in psychology and the mind from a theological perspective. Changing the heart, mind and soul. So true about journaling and talking with God. For myself father, God tapes me in my mind at crucial points. So true about prayer becoming easier at your practice. The morning is the best as you mentioned father. You would make a great practical psychologist in this goofy world. Keep doing what your doing.
It is beautiful to say "I love God with all my heart, mind, soul and strength". But do we actually? I don't. This means not reserving ANY part of your heart for just your family, or friends, or cat, or sleep, or coffee. It means your ENTIRE heart is for God alone. Your mind. Are you willing to let go of your dreams for Him? Your memories for Him. The ability to know or enjoy life. I'm really trudging on this path right now, being called deeply into eremetical and mystic life. Please pray for me and those affected around me.
Thank you, Fr. Columba! I so appreciate your delivery/presence. I love how you bring to life a solemn message with just the right touch of humor, relatability, and authenticity. A hug thru the ether, from America. God Bless & All the Very Best…
I loved what you said about moving from someone in the crowd who wanted to listen to Jesus, to a place closer to Him, that place held by His disciples. That really convicted me. I want to go there! Thank you, you are such a blessing to us all! I
This is just fantastic!!!! Its perfect, practical, precise and so positive!!! (Lots of P's be with you, Father! 😉 ) I'm definitely sharing this video far and wide as well as following it avidly myself!! Thank you so very much, Father & to Katie Ascough and everyone involved in this truly wonderful series! God bless you all so VERY much! 🙏🏼🕯🕊🕯🙏🏼
Your comment about the reason for fasting was so helpful. I struggle to fast, but imagining "telling" the food or my hunger that "you are not my God" has helped me to frame it differently and to see it as worship. Thank you for this and for your calm, practical, relateable words. 🙏
This was mind-blowing for me! Thank you Fr Columba you give me so much light with this first episode. I'm going to follow your recommendations. Thank you Almighty God for bringing me here! 🙏🏼 Gracias Padre! Gloria a Dios
I love this series...I love your words. Thank you! I look forward to the entire series. Great time going toward Lent. Hello from Ohio, and oh my! "Bed beard " is the absolute worst! 😅
Is this/will it be on spotify? Also, how providential is this video! I was thinking today 'man, I want to grow in my spritual life, but HOW?' God bless you all! 858 views but only 183 likes? Make sure you like guys!!!
I love this. Fr Columba, your humor is delightful! There’s such a thing as bed beard?? Incidentally, your content is so practical and helpful. Thank you. May God continue to bless you.
Thank you Father so much for your many talks on how to live the Christian life. They really speak to my heart. May God continue to bless you and your ministry. As an aside, I have never heard you speak about your community or where you exactly are located. I live in Montana, USA
Fr. Columba, thank you for your posts. I'm counting blessings and giving thanks to God that I have learned about your encouraging posts for us to strive to live for Jesus. My daily prayer practice needed this direction and encouragement. Thank you for saying yes to God's call to serve Him.
ahhh :) Interior life. AC in the summer and central heat in the winter. OOpps Got to save the somments till AFTER listening. LOL Any thoughts of my changing to Monastic Diurnal after 10 or so years of using the 4 vol Divine Office LOH
Just an aesthetic thing - I'm not a fan of this recent fad of the camera angle where the speaker is speaking to the other camera and we watch you from a side angle. I much prefer when the speaker is facing the camera the entire time. As few cuts as possible, really. But that might just be me... maybe these cuts really do make it easier for most people to stick with watching the video.
It’s to allow for long pieces of content to be delivered smoothly in multiple takes edited together. Without the second camera angle you end up with very noticeable “jump cuts” which most people find far more distracting.

Today I learned many good things.
One being that “Bed beard” is a thing.
