    My father had an Olympus Om-1 MD from 1974 I learned alot about photography from using it growing up, I still have it but she could do with some TLC after nearly 50 years.

      Such a great camera to learn from. It should still work, often you find black foam particles in the prism but that shouldn't effect it's ability to take pictures. Easy enough to clean up. Thanks for your comment. Gavin

    I've always wanted to try that lens. I've got the OM 50mm 1.8 and the 85mm f2. I love my OM1. Mine's black.

      Coincidently I was developing a roll of Kodak Color Plus from the OM1 & 55mm last night on the Jobo then a late.night scanning and despotting the images. I'm trill with the results, I thought I had messed up completely. Should be in the next video.

    The little badge on the front of the camera body which says MD refers to it's compatability with a motor drive (or the cheaper auto-winder). OM stands for Olympus Maitani after the designer. The original Olympus M1 is now rare and sought after.

      Thank you, Paul for the additional info, I'll mention it in an upcoming video on the zuiko macro lens. As I'm using OM1 quite a lot these days.

    Hey Gavin! I think I used that camera when I was trying to learn photography. It was really great and I managed to make some nice shots. Cool video, now I miss that camera!

    I’m confused as to what setting to use for what kind of photos. What settings require what ISO/ASA and what shutter speed. But otherwise an informative video/review of the camera itself.

    • @GavinLyonsCreates
      @GavinLyonsCreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Your ISO should always stay set based on your film once you've loaded the camera with film. The meter in the camera will look you if you are under or over exposed. The aim is to have the needle right in the middle. Shutter speed should be 1/30 or above under this you need a tripod. Keep in my mind longer lens like 100mm or longer will require a little more speed, say 1/125 or higher to keep the image sharp. Landscapes go with f/8, portraits f/2.8 or lower (wide open), street f/5.6 with ISO 100 film. Hope that helps Thank you for your comment Gavin. Have fun with your OM-1 btw :-)

    Wich kind of battery do you use for this camera? It uses an 1'3V battery, nowadays they don't make this kind of batteryes

    • @aur1ta
      @aur1ta 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can use modern 1.45v 675 hearing aid batteries. They'll be too small but it's no problem, just use some folded paper or whatever as a wedge between the battery and the inside wall of the compartment and you're good to go. It's the cheapest option and works perfectly fine. There's also the WeinCell MRB625 which are the "perfect" alternative with correct size and voltage (1.35) but they're like 3x more expensive

    Just wish lightmeter had diodes can’t see the pointer in low light

      That would be nice. I think some Minoltas and Nikons are like that.

    It doesn't seem like you're brought up the problem without batteries right now and it under exposing by two stops because of the voltage

    • @GavinLyonsCreates
      @GavinLyonsCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, your right there but as its so old, I prefer to use an external ight meter myself. However I have used the meter in this camera too, mainly to get an idea of the light and then adjust it how I like in terms of stops maybe +1 or 2 1/2. I tend to over exposure just a little but depend on the film too.

      There's still quite a few knocking about on the secondhand market. The sweet thing about the Zuiko lens are, they all pretty much good, solid and easy enough to obtain. Unlike the Zeiss glass ;-)

      The lens I used with OM1 is the 55mm f/1.2. I hope that helps.

    Listening to this through my headphones is picking up some noticeable noise when you are outside 3:00 minutes through 5:35 minutes. Wind noise? Great video, perhaps you could examine your microphone set up for your video. Thanks.

      @GavinLyonsCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments. Yep I think in that video I used a sound recorder in some parts. Back then I hadn't got.any.video mic at that point. Making videos you are always short.of a mic of two :-)

    OM2 can be used without a battery

    • @GavinLyonsCreates
      @GavinLyonsCreates  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes and no, the mirror will lock up and then you need to reset it. Which is a bit of a pain. For more info :

    • @GavinLyonsCreates
      @GavinLyonsCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really love b&w but I do shoot colour too. My othet video with the OM1 with th-cam.com/video/xU8DNcKy2Dc/w-d-xo.html

    • @rentedtux1883
      @rentedtux1883 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the only way to shoot. In my mind, color distracts from the feeling or emotion photos can give.

      I find my om1 gives me the best black n white photos of any of my cameras. So I use my R6 for most things but when I want black and white I use my om1
