I think you showed why so many hikers and outdoor enthusiasts really enjoy micro four-thirds cameras. Having an 800mm camera lens that you can just tote around with you is amazing to anyone who grew up in the film days. I ALWAYS carry my MFT camera with me on hikes, the full frame almost always gets left when I'm not sure what I might shoot that day.
Great video, Duade! Love your enthusiasm for the outdoors! Very infectious!

It's just wonderful to see how happy a bloke can be rolling around in mud on a cold morning trying to get a photo of a small bird going about its day. I can totally understand it of course, as you said "where else would you rather be?". As for whether to go out or not, as they say "the more you go out, the luckier you get". Nice work Duade, nature is just the best.

I watch a lot of wildlife photography videos and I can honestly say this is one of the best. I live in the UK so Australian birds are unknown to me so even more interesting to see and you captured them beautifully.. I like how you show both the finished and RAW shot, that is very instructive. I am close to my eighth decade and carry weight is now a serious issue for me when out birding, you have pretty much convinced me with this video that my future lies with Olympus. I've subscribed and look forward to more content.

Enjoyed watching you enjoy the outing. I know MFT will never be "better" than full-frame BUT there's a lot to be said for the sense of freedom you get with a lighter kit and with the performance improvements of the OM-1 and noise reduction software I think micro-four-thirds will become an increasingly viable option for serious photographers. Thanks for giving MFT a chance and a platform.

@@Duade Wonderful review, love to see the enthusiasm! You seemed to have a lot of fun with this camera and I was wondering if you still use it and if you'll be reviewing the OM-1 Mark II! I'm currently looking into a camera upgrade (from a Nikon D3200) to either a R6 Mark II or a OM-1 Mark II and the price (also of the lenses) seem really attractive for the OM-1. Any thoughts?

@@joshuax8 G'day, apologies for the delay, yes, still use the OM-1 from time to time, I find the AF for BIF very good and enjoy using the 300 f4, a very light kit. The R6II and 200-800 would be another kit but a lot heavier and bigger. Nikon cannot be far away from a D500 mirrorless which paired with one of their light primes would be amazing or one of their zoom lenses. Almost too many options, Cheers, Duade

It is fantastic that we have so many wonderful Cameras capable of high level wildlife photography! The OM1 give us the freedom to be in the nature with no complaints about weather, or capabilities, or size and weight! I just bring my OM1 (+ Oly 12-100 and Leica 100-400) for my climbing adventures in the Mountains and combine my favorite hobbies perfectly! I really hope that the M43 system remain strong, keeping profitability in a FF hyped world. Like you I use different systems and sometimes FF is the system to choose, but in MANY occasions I just want to be in the Nature to FEEL the Nature, and I want the right equipment with me that gives me this Freedom!

Thanks for sharing this photo outing. I must say that I am blown away by the auto focus capabilities of that OM-1 that you just shown. Back-lit or low light , the camera looked like it was picking up and tracking the birds effortlessly. I have been looking for an « affordable » lightweight mirorless replacement for my D500 and 200-500 combo for a couple of years now, and I think that without trying, you just sold me on that OM system combo.

Hi Duade. Love the ground-level perspective footage, I'm impressed by the very nice photos of the Dotterels. If you have the chance then I suggest you try the OM-1 with the "PRO" lenses (300 F/4 or 150-400 F/4.5, the latter is however very difficult to get hold of as the demand is much higher than the supply). Then you will be able to take advantage of SH2 @50 fps. Furthermore, these lenses are weather and dust sealed so should you happen to drop the gear in the mud then just rinse it under the tap or shower. Cheers, Tord.

Great photos! As many have suggested I would also recommend trying out the 300mm F4 IS PRO lens, its quite a bit sharper even with the MC-14 teleconverter and has way bettery image stabilization, because the 300mm supports Sync IS. I also recommend ETTR with Olympus/OM SYSTEM cameras. The sensors aren't that good at recovering shadows, but are capable of recovering highlights. Even with the higher ISOs the noise isn't a problem, because of the great noise reduction softwares we have now (eg. Lightroom new denoise, DxO Pure Raw etc.)

Fantastic light and spot Duade. Love my OM-1 but I use the 300 F4 and sometimes the 1.4 teleconverter. This lens is razor sharp as well as the 40-150 F 2.8. The 100-400 is a little soft at the long end but still a great lens. I would love to be able to afford the 150-400 F4.5 that is the ultimate lens for birding. As for tracking, the only time I use it is for a clear shot eg a bird with only sky background, try the pro capture you will be amazed ! Cheers from New Zealand

Fantastic video as usual! Your storytelling is second to none mate and you really showcase well what is like to "get dirty" when out in the field. I shoot with an OM-1 so that makes it that little bit more relatable despite you shooting in pretty much perfect conditions vs my constant struggle with the gloominess of the UK 😅 I'd suggest if you can have a go with the 150-400, it has the sharpness of the 300 F4 with the versatility of the 100-400 (at a premium for sure). Anyhow, and brands aside, your videos always get the creative juices flowing and make me want to get out, so if only for that, Thanks!

Thanks for the comment, yes, the conditions were perfect which is not always the case, I actually went out previously and had fog roll in and end the session before it started and the second attempt the park was closed for shooting feral animals. This was actually my third attempt at the video :-) Cheers, Duade

Really interested to see what settings you used for both stationary and birds in flight. I pair with my OM-1 both the 300mm lens and the 100-400, but have struggled with the latter (obviously nothing to do with the operator😁). Your process for editing the images will be interesting to see as well. Great video as always.👍

    • @Duade
      @Duade  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks Larry, I do find the 100-400 to be a little inconsistent at the long end and nowhere near as sharp and consistent as the 300 f4 but costs half the price. I was using AFC, wide area with bird detection I think for BIF and often switched to spot for when the camera struggled. Cheers, Duade

I was out the other day by the river and after 45 mins I was thinking of moving on but an Australian voice came into my head and said "give it another 15 mins mate" . I did and I got some superb shots of a bird I wasn't expecting to see. I have also started to lie down next to the lake in my local park. I don't care what people think as they walk by, as it makes even the most mundane waterfowl look so much better. Thanks again for the inspiration

Yay! Another great video! The dotterel shots in that golden light! Wow! Almost worth getting in that mud. You might consider some inexpensive chest waders that fishermen use. At least they’ll keep the water out of your pants and you can just hose off when you get home. Congratulations on those dotterel shots!

Hi Duade, another great video! Thank you for sharing the fieldcraft as well as the amazing photos. I have been a fan for a couple of years now, and having watched that one episode about the events prior to starting photography and the channel, I am seeing life differently and am more mindful of appreciating the moments we have. And so while I was thrilled to see a title about an outing with a camera I own and a lens I’ve been eyeing, I also understood the feeling when you got to the site this morning and had your first look around. Thanks for sharing that too 👍

Great field video again this time, Duade - thank you for sharing! Fantastic you got out of bed, tried out the new location & had a cracking morning! Good on ya, mate!! Some excellent habitat there & plenty of willing subjects to shoot. Wonderful array of photos again this round & really special Red-kneed Dotteril shots.... You definitely have some sweet images of that species now.
Good for you on such a memorable outing & glad you're enjoying your micro 4/3rds choice. May it bring you many inspiring images as you continue to become familiar with it. The tracking & IQ from it do seem quite good!
May you enjoy your sessions there & hope this autumn continues to bring you many unexpected treasures. Best regards ~ Chris

Thanks for sharing this experience with us Duade ! You're really mastering the mud in an amazing way, but it does get you into perfect positions to make use of the beautiful light. And I guess that low position was also key in getting better bokeh than I ever expected possible on m43 ;-)
