My wife is 13 week pregnant now and she feel sick of eating all the time, it's like she always want to eat something, but as soon as she really started the meal, she start feeling sick of the food. And as i like cooking a lot, i tried my best to cook for her but felt really upset as she really couldn't eat them and i feel that i didn't take a good care of her. And now I literally learnt a lot from ur video and i cannot thank u enough! Also I really want to say that u ladies are truly amazing! Through the whole pregnancy, we cannot imagine how difficult it is sometimes! And i think that is y people says the most amazing job in the world, is being a mother!🌹
Awww you're a very sweet hubs. What your wife is going through is completely normal and the great thing is that she will probably start to feel better into her 2nd trimester. Wishing her a healthy and happy pregnancy. All the best :)
Joyous Health thank u so much!! And im thinking about to get ur new book as well haha, do u know where can i get it in the UK? Waterstones or? :)))))))
@jennifer marco -- I can't seem to answer your question below so I will answer it here and hopefully you see it! So yes, kimchi is fermented cabbage but what makes it kimchi is the addition of the spices such as cayenne and ginger. I LOVE kimchi!!
This was great. Thank you! I am preparing a Childbirth Ed presentation & you gave me some good solid information and inspiration. I love how up-beat and informative you are. Many blessings to you. Will be checking out your website for more great resources. And will link you as a resource for clients. x
Dear Joy, Thanks for your video! I was wondering what is your advice on what/when to eat/drink before and after exercising. Could you please make a video on it?
+Galan973 Great idea! In general, staying hydrated throughout the day, eating a small meal or snack containing lean protein, complex carbs and healthy fats pre-workout and focusing on protein, colour and healthy fats post workout would be a good place to start but will depend on the intensity/type of exercise. I'll keep this in mind for future videos. Thanks for your question :)
Thanks so much. I didn't know that about the baking soda. Also, I'm glad to hear kimchi is okay to eat in pregnancy as I love it so I'll opt for that option instead !
+DA LW Thanks! If you are breastfeeding then take as long as you are nursing. However, many mamas like to take it beyond nursing -- it's really a personal preference after nursing. I love it because it's been great for my skin, hair and nails.
Joy, loved this video! I'm currently 17weeks pregnant and was eating lots of fermented foods and drinking kombucha regularly. I'd heard some controversial things about continuing so I haven't had any since becoming pregnant.. But you video suggests it's ok? I'm interested in those multi vitamins you recommended and even that protein powder you've posted about from genuine greens, the fermented one. These are all ok to take during pregnancy?
+Her Balanced Life Thanks for your kind words and congratulations! I don't see any issues with consuming fermented foods during pregnancy and the protein powder is totally safe! All the best with your pregnancy :)
Hey Joy! When is best time to take New Chapter prenatal Multivitamins, Along with Newchapter WholeOmega and Garden of Life Vitamin Code Healthy Blood/Iron, in a day. Also please suggest what should i avoid or keep in mind while taking them.. like they say calcium will disturb absorption of iron .
Hi Shilpa! Iron is best taken on it's own on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and avoid taking it with calcium as it can block the absorption! The prenatal and omega can be taken together at intervals as directed on the bottles as there are no contraindications with those two products. I hope that helps!
april hassell it’s fermented so it is no longer folic acid but Canadian labeling laws require it to be listed as folic acid. Once it is fermented it is totally bioavailable 👍🏻
hey thts really informative.. I am also pregnant and wanna ask tht what can I now eat so my baby eyesight did not get weak.. because in my family all my siblings have low eyesight problem.. I also started using glasses at age of 16, even after much care. pls suggest anything which I can eat now for my baby eyes... secondly: what shd I eat so my hair n skin remain healthy. thanks in advance
You'll want to load up on lots of vitamin A/beta-carotene containing foods such as carrots, sweet potato, kale and butternut squash. For tips on how to have healthy hair, you can check out my article here: www.joyoushealth.com/20426-blog-part-2-beauty-foods-for-healthy-hair For healthy skin, you can check out my article here: www.joyoushealth.com/20293-blog-part-1-beauty-foods-for-skin Hope that helps :)
Hi Joy! when i watch your videos i feel like i am talking to my friend. i really enjoy watching your video. Lot's of love! May all your dreams and wishes come true. I wan to ask you, Is New Chapter prenatal Multivitamins, Along with Newchapter WholeOmega sufficient to take while planning pregnancy or any other vitamin , supplement i should take.
Aw thank you so much! So glad you're enjoying them! Yes, both are great supplements to include when preparing for pregnancy. You might also appreciate this post I wrote on Important Nutrients and Foods for a Healthy Pregnancy: www.joyoushealth.com/23621-blog-important-nutrients-and-foods-for-a-healthy-pregnancy
Joy, i also want your guidance on throat pain. i avoid eating deep fried food or oily food. but if at all i had to eat such food i immediately get scratchy throat and feeling something is wrong with my throat. Can you suggest any particular remedy or vitamin to prevent it.
It sounds like you could have a sensitivity or an allergy to a specific food. It might be helpful to keep a food journal and record any reactions you're having to certain foods. I would suggest working with a natural health care practitioner on this if the issue persists.
Hi Joy! I recently purchased the prenatal that you recommend here. It says take 1 tablet 3 times a day with food. Is it important to take them at 3 separate times or can you take 2 at once or all 3 at once? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Hello! I really enjoyed your video very informative. I'm 26 years old about 60 pounds over weight. I want to get pregnant but first I want to lose weight. Can you recommend me a healthy way of doing so. Thank you!
Congrats on your plans to expand your family! Weight loss is essentially a side effect of being healthy so fuelling your body with whole foods, lots of colourful veggies, staying hydrated and moving your booty are all going to support your weight loss goals. It can be tough to pinpoint exactly what to would be best for you without knowing a lot more about you but I have some awesome resources on my site that I think you will find helpful. Here's one but you can also search "weight loss" on joyoushealth.com for more articles: www.joyoushealth.com/blog/2014/01/03/6-ways-to-lose-weight-instead-of-dieting/ a copy of my book: Eat Well, Feel Well Without Dieting wouldn't be a bad choice either ;) www.joyoushealth.com/joyous-health-book/ All the best!
Joyous Health wow thank you so much for replying so quickly. Thank you for all the great advice. I will definitely be looking at your website and picking up your book. Thank you again!
Thanks so much Nahna! I don't know much about it but I would take a look at the breakdown of ingredients and make sure it's clear of added sugars, artificial flavours, sweeteners, fillers and binders.
I'll keep that in mind for a future video, in the meantime, I have an awesome free breakfast guide on my website that you can download: www.joyoushealth.com/healthy-breakfast-guide/
Thank you for all the great information. I'm planning on wanting to start a family in the next year or so and I was always curious if after you stop breastfeeding would it be harmful to give your baby a homemade nut milk instead of the dairy milks? Of course as long as they don't have an allergy to nuts, would this be sufficed?
+healthyeatingalways My pleasure :) It really depends on how old your baby is once you stop breastfeeding. A nut milk, while healthy will NOT provide baby with adequate nutrition if they are under 1 year old. In terms of introduction of foods, the AAP now recommends that allergenic foods be introduced earlier (under a year) if there is no family history of severe allergy. However, the best thing to do is speak with your pediatrician or healthcare practitioner for advice because every case is different.
That's a good point. Are there any good formula brands out there that you would recommend should breastfeeding not last the full year and will need to be replaced? I don't know anything about baby formulas so I'm not sure if there are some healthier brands out there. That's a good suggestion from the AAP, I appreciate the feedback. I always love hearing your suggestions and advise :)
+healthyeatingalways If you decide to do formula, the most important thing is to purchase certified organic. I don't know where you live, but in Germany there is a brand called Holle that is BOTH biodynamic and certified organic. In Canada and the U.S there is a brand called Earth's Best that is organic. Hope that helps!
Awesome info, Joy!! Even though I'm not pregnant it's still great to learn these things AND you may think this is funny but to get away from taking women's Multi's that now, pretty much across the board, have some type of herbal ingredients in it I like to stick with Prenatal vitamins, because their cleaner and usually will not include those in them. The one's I love is New Chapters of course and Mega Foods. They're SO good!! Love to know why you chose New Chapter as opposed to Mega Foods? Just a personal preference?? Just curious, love to hear the experts take and decision making on things!! Love your sweet family and I laughed at your little baby's cute burp!! She's already the STAR of the show!! ;D
+FitChickGlows Thanks lady! To answer your question, I prefer New Chapter because Mega Foods has not gone through fermentation. New Chapter is the only “Whole Food’ multi that has been fully bio-transformed into living nutrients from the process of fermentation -- this means it's easier on your tummy too. They are also the first to become certified organic and they are certified non-gmo project verified too.
+Joyous Health Now see why I LOVE asking the expert!!! Lol! I learn so much more this way! Thanks SO much Joy, New Chapters it IS!! And hooray for fermentation!! 😄
Thanks these are good recommendations but I had lentils last week and I was extremely gassy and bloated so I figured maybe they weren't the right food for me. Guess I'll try again. Also, the smell of sauerkraut just makes me want to gag on a normal basis, how do you manage to eat that while pregnant? I'm 18 weeks and still have food aversions and throwing up
+Anna B Thanks for your comments! When soaking beans or lentils you can add a pinch of baking soda to the soaking water to help break down some of those gassy compounds. Sauerkraut didn't bother me while pregnant, but everyone is so different! Perhaps try a different flavour or kimchi instead and see how you do. Good luck with it and congratulations :)
Congrats on your pregnancy!! This is very common in pregnancy due to the change in hormones. All my moles got quite dark when I was pregnant. Of course hormonal balance can help so make sure you're eating lots of veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, kale, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. Check my book and blog for many delicious ways to enjoy them!
I didn't have those kind of cravings. I did have a few aversions to foods I normally really enjoy, like fish. I did however eat a lot of sweet potato and avocado!
Hey Cindy! In that case I would recommend you schedule a consultation with your natural health care practitioner to ensure you are eating the right foods to support your unique needs :)
Joyous Health Thank you very much for your response! I did actually do ahead and book an appointment with an endocrinologist and my obgyn just because I’m so confused with what to eat while pregnant

Anyone taken pine pollen while pregnant?
I've never taken it but I would consult with your natural health care practitioner first if you plan to introduce it during pregnancy
