All these tests should be done at lowest apertures. F4.4 or f5 means nothing at all to me. Try it at f1.8 and do not keep the subject at the same distance to the lens. The movement should be direct to the lens so the focus distance changes and we will see if Fuji is capable of following the change. I can get more or less the same results here with a manual focus too since the focus distance is same and F.5 :))
@@erkkocak you mean, at higher apertures?
@@kingsalmanhere I mean open wide.. Shallow dof.. If eveything is already in focus (1mt back and front) what's the point of testing. :)
When X-H2/H2s was released it was so hyped as "finally as good as Canon/Sony" AF. As a long time Fuji fan since X-T1 I was excited, gave it a whirl but wasn't impressed. My retired parent always had trouble getting shallow dof shots of kids with their Fuji. Was hoping this would be the holy grail. Nope.
They later tested a friend's Sony and fell in loved the AF abilities. They are casual photographer, not that techie and even they knew it was much better. Figured Fuji would have solved all this by now not get worst... Guess we just have to accept it as is. Maybe X-T6 will hit the mark?
not wide open, false positive eye locks while out of focus....these videos are just as embarrassing as Fuji's "AF firmware" has become.
I know what you mean - in some clips in the video it seemed the background focus never changed even though the eye tracking box was moving around? I would like to see some of these test with fast primes wide open - that's sort of a "worst case" on the camera.
Placing an a6000 with a 33mm f1.4 lenses nets 90-95% hit rate.
The xs20 i tested hit the same figure at 33mm f5.6 , once it gets brought to level playing field , it drops to 30-40% hit rate , jesus.
Over a year ago I had a terrible time with lots of out of focus photos at an event I covered with my X-T5, at the time no one on you tube was saying anything about the issue. I ended up selling my fuji gear and switched to Sony, it was a hard call and I felt like I was being too picky, in the end I was pleased with my decision. Your videos really helped reinforce that I wasn't crazy and from what I can see the focus issues seems to have gotten worse. I really hope Fuji fixes this soon, but I'm enjoying a system that nails focus 98% of the time because in the end it's the photos that matter most to me, not the gear that takes it.
There were a lot of noise about the issue back when X-T5 released. But also a lot of "you're using the wrong settings" blah blah or "AF is good enough" etc. Fans seems super defensive about it.
HII I’m in a similar dilemma but don’t know what to do. I’m a music artist and bought the X-T4 for the aesthetic and cinematic feel of the camera for my branding. But the focus issues are really tough for me to navigate considering I’m still newer to photography and video. I also film my self so manual focus is kinda annoying. But I’m worried that I can’t get the vibe and feel I want with Sony. What do you think? Which Sony did you get? Do you find you can produce similar images?
@@Battlem0nk I might have been one of those fans, just a little bit. I was thinking at the time that people might have been failing to use focus release not shutter release settings in continuous etc. But the truth is, yeah my X-T5 struggles sometimes and I've realised that in some street photography.
@@ashavari It's really hard to get over the "look" of the camera in you hand as a new photographer, I totally get it. It took me a while to realize people didn't hire me for the tool I hold, it's what I do with it. Sony has been phenomenal, I got the A7iv and love it.
If it helps when I had fuji I would get tons of "is that a real camera? is it film?" comments. Now I get "wow that is a fancy pro camera!" and "you must take great photos with that thing"
As far as the images on sony, they are perfectly fine, full frame is nice in low light but not a game changer, for me the big grip, having all the controls on one side of the camera (i started to hate having the iso dial on the left) and stellar auto focus have been absolutely worth it.
Thanks for all of the effort put into testing this! I've been shooting a lot of run and gun event photography on the XH2 and XT5 with the "bad" firmware. Often they're focusing in low light with bounce flash and AF-C. I have had to have my wits about me and certainly had some wtf moments. I have been able to continue working with them though.
If a firmware update brings X-M5 like performance to the XH2 and XT5, I'll be very satisfied.
are you blind? the XM5 AF is awful and you want this coming as an update?
cameras from 2014 have better AF than this 😂😂
@@cheesedrinkal Always good to get feedback from others! Which Fuji bodies are you shooting with and how much low light work do you do at concerts and event venues?
@@cheesedrinkal and this camera is a e-waste?
Thanks for the extras. Nikon fixed its AF in 3 generations, we are in fifth or sixth generation with Fuji film and we are still talking about how bad the Fuji AF is!
and lumix fixed their AF in 1 generation in their first try
@@cheesedrinkal I used to have the first generation of Lumix mirrorless, the G1, I don't remember complaining about its AF but then I was not hunting people in streets!🍻😀
I appreciate your hard work, but I think you incorrectly interpretted the autofocus results on this video and the mailin Xm5 review.
Just because the focus square is on the face, it didnt mean it was actaully focussing there (the videos indoors test in the purple room) shows the focus square on eyes, but both cameras are focussed on the background.
This us my biggest issue with Fujifilm! I can live with poor focus if the square can be reliable about what it was focussing on. Why is it lying about what it was focussed on?!
Its not really lying about what’s in focus because thats not what the green box is actually showing, the box is merely the algorithm recognising and tracking the eye, its not a representation of where the AF motors are at that exact moment (although in an ideal world they would be the same obviously). I think this is where the problem lies for Fuji, for some reason the communication between the camera and the AF motors is off and its not making accurate or fast enough adjustments.
@@gijspeters5866simply description and I will give this my nod of approval. Fuji had better autofocus but adding this AI autofocus into the mix of the firmware seems to have really messed things up... Could be a processing delay like you are saying.
Jumping sideways frenetically doesn’t require the lens focus motor to move. As we can see, as soon as the subject moves closer towards the camera, those are the misfocused shots. And the focal length and aperture values aren’t even challenging. Just walk towards the camera in a straight line at normal speed until the head fills the frame. Use a 33mm f1.4 lens.
It's obvious to me why he's not walked in a straight line at a moderate pace towards and away from the camera with a fast prime. The test was deliberately conducted to avoid showing the flaws Fuji's AF has with maintaining and refocusing on a subject which moves forwards and backwards.
The auto focus of this camera is not on par with any of the major cameras. I have two GFX Cameras and I don’t expect these cameras to capture fast action photo. But on my X-T5 and X-H2S, because of the cost of the camera and lenses, I expect it to be on par with other cameras in its same price bracket. And it’s simply not.
I only use manual focus (adapted and G-mount) lenses on my GFX. For AF, I ditched the X-Series for a Nikon Zf. WOOOORLDS apart in AF and IQ.
@@enshongmiranda If this next Firmware update doesn't fix the X-H2S autofocus issue, I am done with the X-Series. I will still keep my Fujifilm GFX Cameras (I'm thrilled with how they perform). I will be replacing the X Series cameras with the Panasonic S5II And the Lumix S9.
@@LashahVideo I've used Fuji X-Series from their first one and what I've learned over the years is that there is a fundamental problem in their AF system (both hardware and software) that no firmware update can really fix. There's always a disconnect between their lenses and bodies and the software that runs both. Every time there's a new supposedly fast body, the lenses always get blamed as too slow, lacking LM motors or whatever. Then if there's a supposedly quick lens, it's the body that's suddenly lacking again and might need some magic firmware. All the firmware updates have ever done when it comes to firmware is make the AF interface seem stickier, faster, quicker to respond and yet on the actual images, you just find surprising misses. So yeah, I've given up. Fantastic cameras, really fun to use. But I'd never consider the X-Series for serious work like what I do in weddings anymore.
The GFX though, fantastic. I'm also curious about the Panasonics. Their real time LUT's is so interesting.
@@enshongmiranda@enshongmiranda Most Fujifilm Lenses have linear motors (all of the Red Badge Lenses and the newer ones). Firmware 1.03 (I believe) worked much better. They are making their cameras for Amateurs and Semi-Pros because, for the price of their latest Pro-Level Cameras (APS-C), you can purchase a full-frame system that will outperform them. Because I switched from Full-Frame to Medium-Format, I bought their APS-C Line and my run-and-gun (everyday camera system). Medium-format cameras are not your everyday cameras.
I switched to Mirrorless Cameras over 10 years ago, and the Lumix GH3 was my first mirrorless system. They are excellent; I purchased the Panasonic S1 a couple of years ago and got excellent results (and back then, it used contrast detection).
@@enshongmiranda thrown to the trash to send the message?
But I still think the fujifilm auto focus still isn’t up to snuff mate… Even if your vid is published on Fuji rumours. The fact is they need fix the auto focus as a priority over anything else.
And this autofocus is a lot better. Like by a lot. I hope the fuji folks figure it out and pass it to the xt series. Kaizen has been on standby just patches on fringr issues no real updates or improvments.
@@trowawayacc it's not better, the XT4 AF is still better than the XM5
Edvard says hello. By the way he has got some advices for you!
I did a wedding and I had way too many misses at f1.4- f2 when shooting the couple walking down the aisle. We buy fast primes to shoot wide open. I am pretty sure you have fast lenses. Why not do a test at f2 or 1.4?
becasue he knows it will fail miserably
bcs fuji add him into blacklist :D
Would love to see you test this with the xt3 :) its old but xt3 has gotten much better AF after updates
These are decent tests. I wish you had done more natural motion right to left, up and down and vice-versa. The AI that drives these AF systems are predictive and I’m guessing they are a lot easier to confuse by unnatural or extremely erratic movement that we wouldn’t necessarily see in nature. For example, when I shoot birds, sure there are some birds that may exhibit erratic behavior but these are the exception. Most movements are predictable to a degree (flight, hunting, right-left movement, head movements). I can see how the camera could lose focus when the movement is unpredictable.
Amazing set of videos, thank you so much. It's really helping me feel more informed on my next purchase!
I wonder…. How much of this is better autofocus vs the x-t5 is 40mp and the x-m5 is 2Xmp. My gut tells me that is the difference because there is less pixels to process which results in the speedier auto focus
If this is trueit might point at ram issue? Like they need a new procesor. But what then on the old camaras? How much is software? How much is hardware. We might never know.
@@trowawayaccRAM issue could definitely cause this, if it wasnt for the fact that the XT5 and XH2(s) both have this problem and one has significantly more RAM than the other, so I dont think it is RAM.
Stop being so apologetic! These are fabulous and your hard work and detailed analysis is amazing! You are too hard on yourself which is maybe because you set such high standards for yourself, are humble and self-effacing to a fault but that is why you have one of the very best and most professional channels on photography on TH-cam.Fuji should pay you more than $1M a year just for your useful insights to improve their product :-)
So true ! He has huge expectations from himself and a perfectionist! Like a PhD person !
why are you mear riding so hard? he is already paid by fuji with free gear to promote it and hide bad AF
@@DanceDeepDas Well I have based all my purchases of Fuji equipment based on his recommendations. He has been a tireless advocate for autofocus with Fuji, an effort I applaud because it is very frustrating.
@@cheesedrinkal he isn't paid much by Fuji. He was only provided gear to review, which he has to return--not with a long-term loaner.
Chris reviews these to his own use case--practical and not looking for perfection. He has been working with older Fuji cameras and isn't focused on getting the video at wide open apertures. Watch all of his videos, and you will know that. As always, he also never claims to be the only/best resource you should listen to.
@@cheesedrinkalwe were waiting for people like you. Our best compliment, you're the first.
Always Love your videos!
I think we're focusing on a completely wrong thing here.
What Fujifilm doing is like playing a game of chasing the eye using box, even though it shouldn't.
Box should be just an information that eye is detected in frame and the focus is at that position.
With this premises, I'm sure Fuji isn't in the correct path of nailing focus at all. At least achieving Sony level of stickiness.
Predicting isn't chasing but intercepting with many confirmed variables. With good Intercept, 3-5 steps faster can be achieved. Chasing is always slower than target until the target stops.
It's important to understand the issues here rather than double-down on personal data and release more context...
If you still have it with you, could you check if the manual focus assistance has a bug? I have noticed that unlike my X-T5 and X-H2s, the X-Me does not zoom back out when you half-press the shutter button. On both other two cameras (I think even the GFX50II) focus assistance zooms in once you manually focus and then zooms back to the normal view when you half press. I tried replicating the menu settings from the X-H2s to the X-M5 but it will not zoom back out of the focus assistance. It is very annoying to have to make a shot or push another button to reset the view. Has anybody experienced this, but most important, is there a setting to fix that?
are there any gimbals for the X-m5?
Nice work! Thanks Chris. Looks like a step in the right direction.
Thank you sir… great effort and as always quite helpful.
I just spent £3000 on a new camera. I excluded buying another Fuji because my x100v1 is so bad at focusing.

It looks like it's getting better. Now compare it to Sony a6100 from 2019 to remind us that Fujifilm is still more than 5 years behind the competition.
Yep, it sure is more than 5 years behind. A Sony A7III released 6+ years ago CRUSHES, CRUSHES, CRUSHES the autofocus on ANY Fuji body of any cost with any lens.
to be honest even an a6000 is better than any current Fuji camera on sale right now..
f/2.8 at 18mm. Congrats. The X-M5 has Canon 70D-level autofocus.
But damn, that muddy watercolor effect is STILL there in 2024?

Thanks buddy for additional info on this new cam, much appreciated.
Hi.. thank you for the extra information.. many of us buying this camera or considering it .. Definitely wo want to know as much as possible.. specially sice the autofocus aerea has ben much of a hot negative topoick talk lately.. thank you.
I wouldn't trust a company that makes their products way worse with firmware updates. It speaks to something wrong with the engineering department... If there would be a good engineering culture they would have realized and admitted to there being something wrong, pulled back the first update and then that would've been that until a next release with something else with lessons learned.
This is not what Fuji seems to be doing. It seems to me that some paper-counter have got way too much say in that company.
People also talking about sony latest firmware breaking the camera, at least they taking out the firmware immediately after some reports😅
Great tests. Thank you for going through all the hard work. The X-M5 is not a camera I would ever use (the lack of an EVF) but I do find your tests very informative. Thank you.
I wish this new autofocus is indication that fuji has cracked the issue and will eventually give this update across the x camaras.
Especially since their newest lenses can only be at their full potential with the body with better AF
I doubt it.
The tracking box is chasing target, not a good sign of stickiness. Proper logic of tracking/stick should be after it acquires target, it should intercept the target movement rather than blindly chasing with raw power
Wouldn't it be better to hack the raw file as a X-S20 file, as they have the same sensor? But, anyway you made it.
Thank you for all your dedication and quality content.
so much quality that he used AF S on one and AF C on the other
I guess those f1.4 and f1.2 lenses don’t exist when it’s time to evaluate autofocus on fujifilm lol craaaaazy
fujifilm autofocus and aperture simulation
I'm sure those more open aperture tests will come. He did say he wanted to utilize the XC15-45mm kit lens that comes with the camera in that first video. And, he was under a time constraint as someone who was given a pre-launch opportunity.
Thanks Chris. Always appreciate you doing these vids!
Please advise XT5 firmware rev.
I recently bought a Fujifilm X-M5, and when I record videos in FHD (30 fps, 50 Mbps), the camera suddenly stops near the 5-minute mark, stores the video, and then restarts itself. Is this normal, or could there be an issue with my camera?
Another very helpful video Chris. Where do you think the xM-5 autofocus stacks up against OM, Canon, and Son? Based on your video I'd say improved but still clearly behind other camera manufacturers.
Good job on comparing the much more expensive X-T5. Sadly the autofocus with newer firmwares have gotten worse. X-S20 v1.40 was actually good, really good but 2.0 and on just got kind of bad. Open that apature on a XF fuji 1.4 and even close it to F2.2. Fujifilm if they go back to the roots of 1.4 X-S20 firmware can make the autofocus really good, better than it is now.
I think for a lot of people it’s still not good enough compared to the competition. I’d hope that on my XH2 there would be a significant upgrade over this camera as a flagship vs prosumer
I think its a positove step for the Fujifilm autofocus
The thing its rare ...that we are jumping about too
If shooting kids the shootong f4...with people not eye detection
it looks so promising that i really want to replace my xt2 with this camera for video, my concerns are about the 4k 60 fps, i hope its not crap
Not bad! Hope they keep really improving.
So it's no longer a e-waste
not bad? its out of focus
Excellent video!! What EXIF editor did you use for the raw files?
Very cool. I'm an entry level videographer, the issue is I'm colorblind (red/green) so color correction is tough for me - hence why I am interested in Fujifilm. I like the film simulations, because it minimizes the amount of color correction I may have to do later. That being said, do you feel like this camera would be a good travel camera for a beginner?
you are on the wrong channel for answers, he is paid by fujifilm, as you can see the fujifilm still has the worst autofocus
a good travel camera would be the A6700 by sony or the lumix S5ii
Lucky us, we get to see a second video. Thanks for sharing.
appreciate your effort and further polish the review
Ok but how do I recognize the x100vi raws because I still can’t in Lightroom 😅
For everyone complaining about these tests, I'm sure those more open aperture tests will come. And, he did say he wanted to utilize the XC15-45mm kit lens that comes with the camera in that first video. He was also under a time constraint as someone who was given a pre-launch opportunity. As for me, I'm waiting to see if there is a significant difference once this next firmware update is released because of the claim that they have nailed down the problem and fixed it. We will see. Thanks for your continued programming Chris! Have a great day.
Eventually they will come, but not from Fuji sponsored reviewers, but indeed, eventually they will be found out.
That's just BS, he's a reviewers and he got more fuji fast lenses.

I feel like some of the autofocus tests (the ones with you that you showed nearer the start) might have been better with a faster shutter speed. Is 1/200 fast enough to keep you sharp when you're moving around the frame that quickly? I know the one of your wife is faster, but she doesn't seem to be moving as crazily as you ;)
Hacking raw files - legendary!
How come my 2013 Canon 70d focuses better than this?
Fuji got great colors and dynamic range. But it needs to address this problem.
Fo stationary objects Fuji is fine but moving objects no that good I am going back to Nikon, I feel like Fuji need to work harder in improving autofocus
I'm having problems even with static objects. I get confirmation that it is in focus and I can clearly see it isn't, and this is in single point AF for stills. I don't even want to know how bad it is in tracking.
I went back to Nikon with xt3 !
I didn’t proceed to Fuji next camera. For video I will buy a Black magic cinema 6k ❤️

@@dingbat19 It's a lottery! I've gone back to my Nikon DSLR. I will keep my Fuji kit, hopefully they give us all an update, not just the new cameras (X-T30II here) but I don't see it happening. It's almost as if they crippled them intentionally haha
Fuji are so damn frustrating. I love their fast primes for the build quality and optics, but their AF is the worst I have ever encountered and needs a complete overhaul on their future camera releases.
The fact that all those tests were done on a 'strange' manner (f/5, subject moving lateraly) and the absence of answers to all the comments already pointing at these questions does not make me confident at all regarding the quality of the AF. In fact it's clearly the opposite, the more I Iook at the reviews trying to convince that the AF is THE one, the more I'm thinking of buying the A6700. Just waiting for the 'big' AF firmware update that should be released soon but does not expect a lot of it.
So you find this camera not worth keeping?
This autofocus performance is on par with my X-S20 with firmware (third last version). Just the result of processing 26 Megapixel sensor (vs 40 Mp XH2s) and probably going back to an earlier firmware. My Sony A7Cii is at least 10x better.
Still hope Fuji can make major improvement in Nov firmware.
So I am right!!! The X-M5 was a guinea pig to carry the new Auto focus firmware update that we've been waiting for. The problem is that the improvement is nowhere near good enough to keep people on Fujifilm..
Use long-focus optics and walk to the camera and back - then the horror of Fuji's auto-focus will be clear
If any no-name camera would behave as any of the fuji flagships, it would get trashed by any youtuber that praises fuji.
Great test, comparing the X-T5 on AF-S with the X-M5 on AF-C, testing AF at F5.0 on high ISO so you cannot really tell if the face is in focus or not. Not finding 3 minutes in that one week to do a proper focusing test with a fast lens. This video should be called "pretending to test the AF in such a way that i won't upset Fuji so they'll send me more gear".
Can anyone clarify why they were in two different focus modes?
Whether you had it for 1 day or a few hours. You should be doing the AF test with a faster lens f/1.8 or f/1.4. It's a shame you didn't think of doing it or purposefully didn't do it. Integrity can be lost very quickly but takes long time to build.
You wouldn't know "integrity" if it stared you in the face haughty man.
In my opinion, for the people annoyed with the autofocus, just imagine Fuji made accidentally a mini Blackmagic CINEMA Camera with 4.2.2 10 bits, open gate, Raw hdmi output, to be used in manual focus and no IBIS like a Pocket 4k.
These autofocus tests are meaningless without a point of comparison. What would be helpful is if you had an A6700 with similar lens and use the same settings to see how the Sony performed. I see so many of these Fuji videos where they try to convince people that Fuji is so close to getting AF right. They are not even close even for still - and forget about video. Chris, I know you built this channel on Fuji, but I genuinely hope you branch out into some of the other brands so you can put things (like AF) in context.
I notice when comparing the AF between X-T5 with X-M5, the X-T5 was on AF-S and X-M5 AF-C. If you're going to compare AF systems between 2 cameras, at least have identical AF settings on both. Also, why not test a fast prime wide open and walk towards the camera in a straight line, then retreat backwards and force the AF to actually adjust with subject distance? Side to side movements do not require AF adjustments and are completely pointless. If he'd used a wide open aperture he could've increased the shutter speed and nullified a lot of the motion blur in the sideway movement shots and then we could really see if it was in focus. I personally do not think the AF has improved and I don't care how good or bad the tracking is if the subject is out of focus. This test just reaffirms my view that Fuji's AF is ok for stills, but for anything that moves you're better off with a Canon, Nikon or Sony.
As long as a video has chapter markers, I see not much reason in being afraid of some extra total length.
Your viewers are patient, please 🎉Relax.
Even with the box on the face, fuji has the ability to miss focus... go figure
Wide angle😂 f2.8 18mm😅
I used to watch your videos, back when I got my first camera, an X-S10.
TH-camrs like you, who will not objectively talk about the issues and shortcomings of gear, made me buy the X-H2 at some point. In the end, I spent thousands of euros on gear that couldn't do what I needed it to do, lost a lot of money, only because you're either a fanboy yourself, or you're too scared of the fanboys. Even here, everything is shot with a massive DOF, so that pretty much everything is in focus, OR the subject is mainly moving sideways. Put a 50mm+ f/1.4 on this camera and just walk towards it at normal speed, it is very simple, but you're actively trying to hide the issue.
You are a shill, and your actions have consequences for the people you deceive.
base. its true
"TH-camrs like you...made me buy the X-H2...". Seriously!?! Made you buy!! Do you have no independent critical faculties? Even a modicum of your own research would have warned you about Fuji's sub-par AF, even before the firmware debacle. Fujis are great for some things but nobody has ever, ever, bought a Fuji for reliable AF!!!
@@tonygreenwoodN10 dude ... autofocus on firmware 1.10 is not great but not terrible either, but everything that came out later just broke the AF-C on the x-h2. i had to roll back my camera to keep shooting action scenes. on later firmware the hit rate is about 50% as opposed to 85-90% on 1.10
@@tonygreenwoodN10 I very much disagree. For every person warning you about the AF, there are at least 3 shills and/or fanboys telling you, that it's actually great, and that those having issues are using "the wrong lenses" or "the wrong settings".
Back in early 2023, Information about how terrible the X-H2(s) AF really is (even before the updates) has been pretty sparse, with most reviewers on TH-cam claiming it's much better, than it actually is.
What wrong with fujifilm, I've invested so much in this brand but they are disappointing with this focus thing 😞
Someone drank a lot of coffee!
when do you think the xt5 will get any updates and will it be able to match this performance?
dear mr.pal please suggest to fujifilm company to make full frame cameras.
lol?
great video
Just dropping in with no previous knowledge..do you have boost mode on?
After +400 videos mostly about Fuji camera's and professionally off of TH-cam working with Fuji camera's i'd assume your question is super redundant 🤔lol
disclaimer: this reply is intended to be lighthearted funny
Sorry to say autofocus is still far behind competition. I think fuji should stop making more cameras and instead work on software
was this with the new 16-55 mk2 lens?
What about auto focus for video?!??
even worse :D wont record video buy sony canon new line lumix
X-T5 is not a fair comparison. Different sensors and sensor sizes too. Processing 24mp and 40mp.
The X-M5, like all recent Fuji's has deep, deep fundamental problems with its autofocus. Just simply use any lens at a wide open aperture and start filming a STATIC subject that fills lets say 25% of the frame, like a person standing 10 ft away... it will hunt back and forth from the person to the background. The eye tracking box will stay accurate but the box doesn't really match what is the focus point. I *LOVE* Fuji, I love my X-T5, I love my X-100VI and I really appreciate pal2tech all these years being here for Fuji fans like us... but I will NOT buy anymore Fuji cameras until they really, really solve the focus issues with their platform. It doesn't have to be Sony perfect, but it needs to not be laughable by 2024 standards, and no excuse of cost, "its still better than a decade ago", or "well there are still some keepers" is enough anymore. Out of focus shots should be the rare exception instead of 25% or higher of my shots.
I am a Sony shooter by default for my cameras I use for paid work and bought the X-T50 recently. I am at the point where I am very close to selling it because of how utterly crap and unreliable the AF is on it, but I am still wondering if there will be a firmware update which would bring it up to the level of the X-M5 at least? 🤔
Very helpful and thorough review, but Fujifilm is still miles behind the competition. Such a shame.
It's embarrassing to see how FUJIFILM is launching on the market product affected with the same AF issue that from months are now available on the web. This is a clear sign that they DO NOT care about customer, no way. They are too focused to hear marketing guru or follow strange trend, we do not buy camera for the retro style. They need to fix the AF.
Why don’t you do something on the new lens?????????????
The X-M5Gate hack.
The problem is that it is nearly the end of 2024…Autofocusing is the only thing that could be better than any time. Fuji set the expectation too high when they launched the XH2s. Beginners may care about all the other features but loyal Fuji users know their camera and could only expecting a better autofocus 😂
What if Fuji removed AF and marketed as a true retro camera to tiktokers? Shooting manual is the new cool. They would be ahead of the game!
@@Battlem0nk Well, if you don’t know there is an AFC mode and just using AFS or using AFC only for photograph still targets, it works fine😂 just won’t work for video and anything moving.
As someone looking at the X-M5 for content creation (bye bye Sony ZV-1), I gotta say that this looks great! Of course don’t be too harsh on the X-T5 as I am going to keep it also for my stills. In AF-S mode, I’m still in love with it.
Thanks for showing the stuff that landed on the cutting room floor. Informative and as educational as ever.
I wonder if the methodology for AF testing is a little unrealistic. Perhaps not acting like a five year old, overdosed on sugar and acting like an adult may produce more favourable results like perhaps the designers intended it working. Please I DO NOT mean that to be an insult, it is just a metaphor.
I think photographers forget just how far autofocus has come along. I'm old school and still use prefocus for the times that I don't want to trust autofocus to get the job done.
I have stopped using the aircraft subject detection on my XT5 because of constant overexposure. Perhaps you could take a look at that aspect when testing a camera.
Fujifilm is switching to some kind of spot metering hybrid mode once it detects a subject and I fully agree, it's terrible more often than not.
err, so Fuji shooters never want to capture action, sports, kids running around?
Do you usually film yourself at high f-stops? It’s ok if you only have the poor man’s kit lens. But usually we want to separate ourselves from the background and the Afc must work at low apertures as 1.4 with primes like the 16mm. This could be much more realistic and interesting.
Chris! Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying and getting out of your channel. As a novice who's really hungry to progress quickly with his Fuji camera, your channel is perfect. I'm really enjoying my photography journey more because of it. Thanks!
Thanks so much! 🙏
Hi uncle Paul, an idea could be launching a review "Part #1" focusing on "something" on the date you had decided to do it. Then a "Part #2" on "something else"..
The end result should be an overall longer and more detailed video with no problem regarding viewers ' attention span and gives you the possibility/time to say/show us everything you have to say..
Just an idea.
Thanks for your videos !!
Don’t let the trolls troll! Consider all the others that simply watched, liked, and took the value you gave (without requiring you to bend to our own precise ideas of how you should do your job 😊) You are a chief resource for so many. Thank you.
