Taylor Van Diest was on her way to go trick or treating in her hometown of Armstrong, British Columbia. Little did she know that while walking along lonely railroad tracks she would encounter a monster far more terrifying than any she could have suspected that dark night.

Kudos to the group who found the phone and got her mother by her side and the police on the scene. Tragically she was going to pass, but because of their actions Taylor was able to die surrounded by those that loved her, not alone in the bushes by a railroad track.

It's so sad, but not being alone makes it just a teeny bit better. If ever you feel creeped out by someone, start video chatting or recording the person in an obvious way. It could be enough for them to change their mind if they think others can see who they are. I had someone follow me in the woods, so I turned around and held my phone up while saying "if something happens to me, it's this mf who has a slight limp". The man turned around immediately and walked the other way. My heart was racing, but I had nothing to lose.

My heart dropped when I realized this was Taylor's case. This case hit the town so hard and wanted posters were all over the place and everyone was in and hiding away before 8pm. I saw her before her attack and when I got home to light my pumpkins we heard a scream... That Halloween really didn't feel right and at middle school the next day the news was broken to us. When I still lived there I would put candy on her memorial each Halloween after the angel trail was made.

I subscribe and love this channel.. and clicked when I saw a new video.. Then quickly realized you were talking about Tay, and now I'm shaking and a mess. I knew Taylor. I had the pleasure of seeing her and her sister graduate alongside my brother. That was the last time I saw her alive, and I'm so glad I hugged her. She was my brother's bestie, and one of the last messages she sent was to my brother as he stood in my kitchen before she left to go to Zoe's that evening. We knew very quickly something was wrong, even from Edmonton. That night is the worst night of our lives and is permanently etched in our brains forever. I attended the entire trial - it was difficult knowing his history and that it wouldn't be discussed at all during the trial. The ordeal around the 2nd trial is beyond infuriating and was because they were lazy and didn't want to spend the money. The judge's instructions to the jury were crystal clear - I was present in the room for them. It was complete BS, they just wanted a chance to try for an intoxication defense again. I personally do not feel that the Crown Prosecution in B.C. did their job to the fullest extent to get the 1st degree conviction that was absolutely deserved. I have since learned that Forrester is in Saskatchewan in a low security facility even getting day trips. That is not justice. This is something that has deeply impacted everyone. There is no person who knew Tay who doesn't miss her incredibly and who wasn't traumatized by this. It's really difficult for me to hear this one. Thanks for being respectful and keeping to facts where others have not. We had one publication run under Ben Shapiro try to say she was scantly clad (she wasn't) and victim blame her. I lost my mind at them. May Tay rest in paradise. She is so loved, and so very missed.

Deals are for them to plead guilty avoiding a trial. They do this if not enough evidence or fear they could be found innocent with a trial. They also usually ask the family first before offering deal. A plea guarantees a prison sentence. Also sometimes the family doesn't want to go through months of court dates and the trial. It avoids the family having to hear and relive the events. Causing pain and suffering again.

Both comments on here are correct. They also do it because each time he goes to court and while he is in county not prison he cost tax payers money. This confirms a prison sentence. Gets him there faster, and ends the nightmare from families reliving it all going to all his courts. Which is good he needs to go where he belongs. Btw I’m an ex con (not happy to say that, but am) usually crimes like his don’t get parole the first several times the go seethe parole board. In Texas it use to be crimes like his had tho do 85% of their time, ( now it’s 65% for aggravated crimes and 15% for no agg. Crimes) so if he go life with parole after 17 years. After 17 years he is going to get rejected year after year until he completes 65% of a life sentence (25 years). He will most likely do 25 years before he even gets a maybe lol. But it’s all up to the parole board there. I’m just speaking from what I saw and experienced myself along with multiple homies throughout my years on the other side of the law.

And we see it time and time again; shitty parents with shitty kids. Not always, of course, but it's a very familiar thread within true crime tales. It always makes me think about the very first scene in the movie Idiocracy, where the well-spoken, educated, intelligent couple never end up having children, and the dinguses across town end up with the outrageously large family tree. Obviously the scenario is exaggerated for comedic effect, but it seems like there's a little nugget of reality hiding in there.
Again -- and I can't emphasize this enough -- this isn't a blanket statement meant to be taken as an absolute. There are millions of lovely, hard working, blue collar families, just like there are plenty of dirtbags from well-off, educated, privileged backgrounds.
      . . . [shifty eyes] but still . . . patterns seem to exist.

I’m wondering if u can find info and do an episode on a guy that worked for my dad. Back in the 80’s-and through the early 90’s, it turned out that my fathers employee was the Oakland county, Michigan serial rapist. His name is Steve Hoyt. During his trial he had stated that beating and raping them wasn’t doing it for him anymore and the judge had said, “We caught this man right before he became a serial killer.” He was handsome, very smart, popular and the last person u would have ever thought would be doing that sort of thing-but isn’t that what we all say when they get caught? He had a girlfriend at the time named Twila. Waterford, Michigan to be exact is where we all lived during this time frame. He would take jewelry from his victims and give it to his girlfriend. Poor Twila had no idea and when it all finally came out, she wound up in a mental hospital for awhile.

SICKENING!!! Even worse when these sick bastards think saying cannabis is a logical explanation... Been stoned for the past 24 years and never once have ever had the thought of hurting anyone ever come to my mind... thoughts and prayers go out to both those girls family and friends.

This is one of those cases where it's easy to see his father is probably why he turned out how he turned out. It would be very difficult for someone to grow up in an environment with someone like that and not turn out the same. You gotta feel sorry for those who are born into these families but also be firm about them getting the just punishment they deserve for their horrible crimes. Because at the end of the day he still made the choice to do the things that he did and knew they were wrong.

As a GirlMom… it terrifies me to think of my little girl being followed by some creep with bad intentions. You want to teach your children to be safe and aware while not also scaring them so badly they don’t want to interact and go out and experience life, meet new people. Common sense comes with life experience and the brain isn’t even fully formed until 25. So to imagine young adults, naive, social, excited to have freedom but unaware of the actual dangers… it’s truly terrifying.
Kinda like how the days of being a kid, roaming the neighborhood with other kids until sunset, no phones, things happened but not seemingly as much as things happen in similar scenarios nowadays. Or maybe we just hear about it more - but with trafficking you just can’t trust anything or anyone and you can’t be everywhere at once.
I hope I do right by my babygirl and my heart goes out to the families and victims or horrible people like this evil man.
