    The correct timing makes a world of difference on these motors. Yep the upper screws are for the idle and WOT timing the lower two are for carb cam and roller adjustment and carb full open setting so the shutters don't become the stops. Congratulations on a successful video

    I’ve had great results adding timing! Using 98octane and synthetic oil there’s a few hp to be had over factory! For customers that prefer cheap fuel I stick to factory settings

      Cheap lol. We have max 94 and that’s rare. It’s max 93 and that’s $4.69 a gallon now.

    Awesome video, hard to find helpful videos like this. I was curious since I don’t have a timing light if I could do adjust the timing screw while it’s running on water? Motor runs like a top but starts and idles very rough

    • @donerightbydadproductions
      @donerightbydadproductions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, absolutely you could do it in the water by ear. But I would recommend maybe checking out your carburetters first or a week fuel delivery.

      Thanks for the suggestion! This is my first boat, I’m having trouble finding a place to buy parts for my outboard. It’s a 89 mercury 115 two stroke. I’m not sure the model number or where to find it. Also do you have any idea where the fuel filter is on these outboards? I can’t see one@@donerightbydadproductions

    HI good video, well explained, I have a 4 cylinder 115 HP 1989 mercury outboard 2x2 and I was going to check the timing, do you know if the settings are the same as your motor

    • @donerightbydadproductions
      @donerightbydadproductions  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The timing will be completely different for that as well as how to do the timing you’re gonna have to time each bank separately I don’t have much knowledge of it but I will. I’m sure one day as I have a 115 Evinrude v4. Dig into it and let me know what you find. I’d be very interested to know.

    Hello mate going to be doing the same adjustment on my mariner 50hp.
    Just a quick one when you set your TDC to 0 then explained about setting idle to 4 degrees was that to the left or right hand side of TDC?
    I’m assuming to the left is BTDC and the right is ATDC

    Are there any gains to be had by removing the cover in front of the carb intakes? Your cover seems to be missing.

    • @donerightbydadproductions
      @donerightbydadproductions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope it’s just off. This motor sat outside with no cover on anything for years. And the motor was able to turn over so I said I can bring this back to life and it had a good compression in each cylinder.

  • @MrInsanityflea
    @MrInsanityflea 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My motor splutters a bit when you put the hammer down, suspect it is timing, thank you to the video I understand it perfectly now, 200hp efi - idle timing is meant to be 0-9 ATDC (I'm guessing you set idle speed here hence the range) and max is 16 BTDC at cranking speed, 22 BTDC at WOT. - Will adjust this and see if it removes the spluttering response.

    Suggestion ... you should be running water in the lower end while setting the timing and running the engine ... to run the water pump impeller dry is not good!

    • @donerightbydadproductions
      @donerightbydadproductions  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This motor had been sitting in a field for 20 years so I wasn’t too worried about the impeller because I was planning on changing it anyway. Only a dummy doesn’t change the impeller before hitting the water with an unfamiliar engine.

  • @user-gq2vn1xj2r

  • @DenverDeCoY
    @DenverDeCoY 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Great vid but one question: Every time you're cranking it, aren't you risking damaging the impeller without water going to it? Thanks

    • @donerightbydadproductions
      @donerightbydadproductions  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Why yes I’m sure it melted into a little pile by the time I was done. But I didn’t care. I was going to be putting a new impeller in it anyway. If you’re going to be trying to make an old motor work, don’t bother going for a drive unless you’ve changed the impeller first.

      Also, what horsepower is the motor and what kind of prop is on the motor usually with most outboards it’s a you probably want a 17 pitch prop. If it takes a long time to get up and out of the water, usually it’s because you have the wrong prop. You probably have a 19 or bigger.

      Get rid of your oil injection pump. If it fails, you don’t know until the motor blows up. If you delete it, all your gas is premixed and you can never run out of oil. Don’t trust those oil pumps.
