I'm 5'8" and wear a US size 6 to 8 with an hourglass figure. My chest size always either matches my hip measurements, or will be give or take 1" to 2" difference. My waist is always 8" to 10" smaller than my hip measurements, so for me, I've rarely found high-waisted pants that I like because I end up with excess material in my waist area. But I absolutely ❤wrap dresses and fitted clothing.
I've been in situations where people have seen me wear a baggy top and then will see me wearing something fitted a month later and they will ask me did I lose a lot of weight. Because I'm busty, I can easily look 15 to 25 lbs bigger if I'm wearing baggy or bulky sweaters. So I got rid of those things!

Here! I am fine with my shape, although I tend to get bloated and put on weight only on my belly. So, in order to not look pregnant when I am not, shapewear is my friend. Empire-waist gowns look good on me. Everything that draws attention to my big natural breasts and butt and hides my belly is great, too. It's weird that I don't gain weight on the hips or on the sides of my body, it all goes to my breasts, butt and belly. My parents were more into sports than I am and had the same problems , so I guess it's genetics. I didn't have children yet so it's not because of a pregnancy.

Actually, straighter body types (relatively even shoulders/bust, waist and hips) are often easier to dress than other figure types because there’s no need to upsize or downsize clothes to accommodate disproportions. Many fashion models have this figure type. An hourglass “illusion” can be created by adding volume above and below the waist either using lingerie or clothing style lines and silhouette.

  • @Sasha-mb3rv
    @Sasha-mb3rv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +593

Beyoncé is used as a hourglass example but she's actually pear shaped! :) it's because she balances her silhouette by accentuating her shoulders, that gives an illusion of a hourglass.
I think the kibbe body type also allows a more precise way of dressing like your overall silhouette, more than just a simplified body shape. That'd be great to see a kibbe video on your channel!

I have always had a “slim” hourglass. The downside is, as you said, we gain weight in our tummy, arms, face, etc. I felt uncomfortable growing up having curves at a young age, so I’ve gotten in the habit of oversized clothes. But I am trying to embrace it and not be embarrassed by wearing tighter clothes and wearing solid (not overly patterned) colors. I’m also petite in height, so wearing longer clothes (as opposed to a tube top, for example) gives the illusion of length.

Fuller curvy "hourglasses" are classified as Cello's ( Yes, I am referring to the string instrument) and we don't follow the same fashion rules of other smaller framed hourglasses. Christina Hendricks from Mad men is an example of a "Cello" Hourglass. Most hourglasses look great in pencil skirts but Cello's look better and more slimming if they wear a tulip skirt. I only discovered the Cello type recently and the fashion guidelines are so much more flattering to my figure.

I have this body type too, It took me forever to find what I looked elegant and felt good in. I feel amazing in 'empress waist' dresses (where the waist tuck is right under the bust instead) It emphasizes the waist, makes me look leaner and taller, and curvy in the right way. A V or polo neck to go with that makes it even better.

I'm a true🍎...I don't bother calling myself an oval. Lol! I'm not old (33😕), but I have PCOS and I've carried weight in my belly since I was a teen. I do have some tips for apple shaped ladies: peplum tops are fabulous...empire waists are not. Since we tend to have slimmer hips, choose lower or mid-rise trousers to make the hips appear more defined than they actually are. It may be tempting to go with high-rise, especially as they are so trendy right now, but they will cut you off right in the middle of your largest area....not cute!
And like Anna said, A-line dresses and skirts will help create balance and will show off those slim legs. Good luck ladies😊

Me too!

Much gratitude as always Anna, you’re an etiquette guru working with energy and shining your Light for other women on the path. You’ve help me shift so much negative energy about myself, that sometimes made me uncomfortable so I knew it was the right way to go. The more I step outside of my comfort zone, the more confident I become. My current situation is extremely luxurious compared to 2 years ago. Blessings and gratitude 🙏 soul sister. Ps. I would rather not live through another puffed sleeve fashion trend. It hasn’t looked nice on a woman since the 19th century.😀 I’m just saying

You are 100% right in everything that you said. I have a hourglass figure while being skinny. And fitted clothes and high-waisted pants looks super good on me while the other type of clothing does not compliment my body shape.
    Thank you so much ❤️

ME too! I thought I was an apple but I don’t have skinny legs. When I put something fitted on I could see my true shape!

I'm an O shape... Hard to "hide" this mid area, and I tended to try to create a waist illusion with blazers, belts... But found something strange... And I gave birth 8 months ago, it doesn't help...
But thank you for this advices! You're such an example as an elegant lady 🙏

I'm an hourglass that puts on weight only on the belly, breasts and butt. I look 4 months pregnant although I have never been pregnant. Shapewear helps me, empire-waisted gowns and everything that hides my belly and brings attention to my breasts and butt. A-line dresses also help me. I think what helps me could help you too, especially if you are tall, too, like me. Good luck!

Anna Bey, low rise jeans are a nightmare for an hourglass figure! These types of videos are so helpful. Please keep them coming.❤❤❤

Beeen theeere too, especially in my teens when Britney Spears was hot! Never ever will wear them again. The mid rise, dark wash superskinny Levis are the onyl pair of jeans I wear.

Answering your question, I am an hourglass shape. It is a little easier to dress. For the longest time I thought I was maybe pear shaped until I actually measured my body. So it really does help if you know for sure what shape you are.Thank you for doing this video!!

I'm loving this channel and today I went shopping with some suggestions in mind. Of course I don't have Anna's budget but it doesn't mean I can't look my best with what I've got. My aim isn't to attract anyone but to feel more positive about myself. Thank you Anna!

I am a typical hourglass while my bff is a rectangle, which explains a lot why the same styling does not work for her as me. We have been worried for this years and finally she gave up, assuming that rectangle could only wear things that are sporty or more casual. Therefore, really happy for this video, I would definitely get her to try items you mentioned!
