Toyota continues to provide OEM parts for the FJ40 going waay back from like right after the Korean war. Toyota is a very serious auto manufacturer for new & retro buyers. Who else makes the parts for their legacy builds?
What's the tow rating on the rear bumper? Everything I've read says that CBI's rear bumpers are not load rated. They also failed to respond to my email inquiry to them.
cjeam isurgants? Lol great folks... but really. Toyotas probably second, but mercedes diesels outlive everything. Taxis or not. 99/100 in the junkyard still run the rest of the car just finally broke.
cjeam isurgants? Lol great folks... but really. Toyotas probably second, but mercedes diesels outlive everything. Taxis or not. 99/100 in the junkyard still run the rest of the car just finally broke. Usually with 500k or more. Toyota has arguably built engines which were just as reliable, but they rust out alot faster too. And for every MB m273 with the timing recall, theres 2 yota V6s that will sludge up even on high dollar synthetic.
@@aussieoffroadnut1109 Nothing comes close. Although every car has issues. I would rather be in a cruiser broken down than a Ranger if it's out in the outback.
My first Landcruiser I bought in 1980. Had that one for 17 years and did 650,000 kilometres in it. I bought my second Landcruiser after my son killed that one and I have had it ever since and it has done 620,000 kilometres so far. Both of them were 11 seat Troopcarriers. Awesome reliability. So essentially I have had only two daily drivers since 1980. The ultimate in recycling is keeping it on the road and not continuously buying new vehicles.
Because the 75 series diesels are tough and reliable and you can get parts for them in any remote part of the country and everyone in the outback knows how to work on them. Also as mentioned above they have legendary reliability and last pretty much forever. Keep the maintenance up to them and you have a vehicle that will get you anywhere and last a lifetime.
Toyota’s are the type of vehicle you can depend on wherever you go. They just keep going without any problems. The Toyota name is trusted around the world and for a good reason.
Videos of the 80 series in Oz is what pushed me over the top and found my triple locked 1997. Last of the best in my book. Well for the USA anyway since we didn’t get the 105. Still would like to have a 200 but just bought a 2014 Lexus LS460L AWD so my coin is limited for awhile.
I have a toyota land cruiser 2012. Its really the king off road. Its just everything and a legend. Now fixed them with yokohama at tyres. The ride is exceptional.
My favorite thing about the expedition overland group (other than the awesome rigs and adventures) is that all of the guys are very knowledgeable and have a great deal of respect for everything.
When I went to Dubai the most used car was the Toyota Land Cruiser. They said that Toyota was the most reliable and the best for the sand dunes. They also hold there value very well.
We live in Dubai an my 10 year old is camping in the desert tonight. We drive an f150 xlt 5.0 and my wife a 2016 pilot. We never venture into the desert alone. We have learned it's more about the driver than the vehicle. Love the channel.
The more I watch these different overland builds and such the easier it is to realize that there is nothing different, ingenious or, most important, cost effective. In my opinion you do not need all of this. I find the real challenge and preparedness comes with the ability to carry as little as possible while covering as many essentials as possible. You can always add more things thats easy, haha Besides the point though. Toyota Land Cruiser > Any other truck
Man I would love it if these things came down in price. 85 before add ons is hard to swallow. But I guess it’s in line with top model pickup trucks too. Everything costs too much these days I suppose.
My 1985 landcruiser with an inline 6 was a tractor. It pulled a drag for many years in a field and now it's an overlander/ daily driver with over 250k on it.
Because Toyota makes such great vehicles, I own a 2013 200 Series Landcruiser and a 2017 Tundra Crewmax TRD Pro. I've been to Australia and South Africa so many times, all you see out in the bush/wilderness are Landcruisers. A Toyota built car or truck will never let you down.
THIS CAR DOESN'T WANT TO BE FANCY OR SPORTY......IT'S A TANK WITH A RELIABLE ENGINE, OFF ROAD CAPABILITY, AND TOUGHNESS. AND IT HAS MODERN SUV FEATURES BUT STILL A CLASSIC.
Kurt knows Cruiser more than anyone in the US. I've bought several suspensions from him and his company, Cruiser Outfitters, along with Slee Off Road, the best companies to outfit your Cruiser. Now you have me wanting a 200 series. Wan't be buying a new one but love the platform and a lot more power than my 100 series. Thanks for publishing lots of Land Cruiser videos, they are the best SUV on planet earth. Bought my first one almost 30 years ago and have always owned one.
As someone who lives in New Hampshire and drives an FJ Cruiser quite a bit ...it's really sad to no longer see the FJ in Toyota's lineup anymore. That 2007 FJ with 200K miles on it has saved us so many times here in NH, especially in Winter. When I lived in Colorado I drove my friends FJ40 back in the day...a lot of great memories.
suspension, tires and sliders are the first things I always recommend right away for not just Overlanding but general weekend warrior wheeling with your daily driver. Perfect size 31-33 inch tall tires. You don't lose all your highway mileage that way.
In Australia, I just bought the Landcruiser 105 series, this model comes out either with a turbo diesel or a petrol 4.5 straight six engine which is what I got, same running gear as the 80 series, great car
You can still buy lc70 in emirates and import it to US, toyota still produces them in certaian market in ME. Visit dubicars.com if you want see what toyota offers in Dubai.
It's a shame that in America yourll don't get the 4.5 twin turbo diesel v8 Here in South Africa this current facelift they discountined the petrol and only comes in the diesel
Mr. Cairo very interesting I've seen many of the diesel wirh 300k kms without any problem And some if them have software that bump up the power to 250kw and 200nm extra tourqe
Mr. Cairo obviously on a diesel injectors have to be done and in a long run petrol is much cheaper Just like the 3.0D4D and 4.0 V6 in the hilux if you going to keep very long the thirstier petrol is better but if you not keeping for long run the diesel is better
Ahmed Moosaji In Middle East, TLC market is very strong. We still able to buy brand new TLC with four engine options (5.7 v8, 4.6 v8, 4.0 v6, and TD4.5 v8) and best part is that the TD4.5 and the 4.0 still can be had in a 5 speed manual in the LC200 :)
I've followed Expedition Overland for several years. They have forgotten more about overlanding than most people will learn in a lifetime. Excellent info.
That hitch on the Patriot is the best offroad hitch ... made by Cruisemaster (not Patriot), as is the suspension on the Patriot - it's Cruisemaster. The Aussie stuff is the best: Redarc, Cruisemaster, Rhino Rack, ARB, OME, TJM, etc. You really need to look at the Aussie stuff for your US overlanding ... we've been doin' it for years!! :) With the Toyota's, Aussies have also been modifying Landcruisers for a very long time ... all the various series (60's, 70's, 80's, 100's, 200's ... basically all of them). If you really want to see some great offload setups, gotta check out the Aussie Builds.
Nice a “crossover” between 2 of my favorite and most watched you tubers! Love to know how you guys got together for this one. Also nice to see Kurt doing the interview and one would expect to see Clay or Jeff. Great job everyone!
It's really pleasing to see Australian products being thought well of in the USA. The Patriot Campers gear is very high quality kit, expensive but you certainly get what you pay for.
It's amazing that Americans don't understand the capabilities of a Landcruiser and this video has to exist. Jeeps are not the only thing that can go offroad lol. Landcruisers hands down are easily one of the most dependable and capable offroad rigs out there. You should search up what we do with them in Australia !
80 series is hard to beat. Bulletproof drivetrain and solid axles with Triple locking diffs. You guys have a link for the rooftop tents on that 200 series?
Great video! I grew up on a large farm in South Africa where we ran a fleet of Hiluxes and a few Land Cruisers - '80's FJ's and newer (the first truck I drove was a 76 or so Hilux). The 2.4 diesel Hilux was indestructible - still have lots of them running and they have been riding on dirt farm roads since the 80's. I live in California now and currently have a 2005 4Runner V8 w OME shocks and springs which has done almost 250,000 miles without issue (tires, brakes a water pump and oil - that's it) and a 2018 L200 Land Cruiser w the 5.7 V8. It's built tough and is great to ride. I recently sold a 2000 L100 V8 which I put 150,000 miles on without issue. I've owned Land Rovers (Defenders) and a few other trucks through the years which were good to drive, but these toyota's have consistently had the best built quality by a long way. Even the bodies don't creak and rattle apart after all those miles. I can't say enough good things about them. Good job Toyota!
My wife and I love camping and this is one really nice set up...I like my comfort a bit more with AC...beds etc like our Rockwood Roo Hybrid...but this is also very impressive....it is all about what you like to to...the engineering in efficiency is very impressive.
2004 Lancruiser/Lx470 are built like a tank best thing ever.Drove one for a full year in Kuwait through desert on 110+ degrees sandstorms and what not and not a hiccup plenty of power could carry 7 people quite comfortable with decent mpg aux tank is a nice plus suspension is great both on and off road can wait to build one.
Here in Australia outside the citys the landcruisers are everywhere for a reason ! . aaaaand then you see a $120.000 land cruiser in the city doing the groceries and you shake your head.
Wow. This vehicle is awesome. Had no idea it was over engineered like that from factory. Where is the US/ NA marketing department at? The JK's are garbage in any form other than the Rubicon. Would rather have this but tough to stomach a land cruiser at $80K. I ca see why Jeeps and Tacos are more popular.
Yep and that's the big issue at play. The 200 series is an amazing vehicle but it has a very large price barrier coming in a lot more expensive than its alternatives. The thing is worth it though if you can afford it (I cannot lol).
Buy used. With some Rubicon’s hitting over $50k US and new Land Cruisers available in the mid to high $70k, the gap is getting closer. Went with a 1997 Series 80 myself but it cost me $10k because I had to have factory lockers and I got in a hurry.
You're right, that's always an option too but when you are looking for new, there's no denying the price difference. Last I went car shopping was in 14 and I narrowed my choice to a Taco, FJ, Jeep (previous Jeep owner), and 4Runner. Ultimately I decided on the poser/cheaper Landcruiser in the FJ and also got to buy one of the last ones to be sold new where I live. I love my FJ to death and will never sell it since I think of it as an entry level LC :D.
Great insight and i enjoyed your video. Oh yeah i forgot to mention i own a fully kitted out 200 series but mine is the twin turbo deisel. Cheers Eric from Australia.
In the beginning of this video, saw you had Montana plates. That was good for me to see. I currently live in central montana and have recently picked up a 91 LC...though needs a little TLC, I love it and looking forward to refurbish. Thank you for this documentary .....this was a great!
Title match the car, love from Papua New Guinea just north of Australia, we love land cruiser and Ford ranger F150 more than any other brands. These two cars can get you wherever u want and get you home with any major problem. Feed them with Desiel or petrol, that's all, seat back and enjoy your ride.

The Fast Lane Truck where did you get the music for this video?
Ok
Why are the running boards still on? Removing it would give more ground clearance and look thug!

Sadly in America there leaving.
It’s really popular in the Middle East and I think in Australia.
Awesome job! Thank you Roman! It was awesome meeting you and getting to travel with you! Until next time :)

@ExpeditionOverland You guys are legends. I've been following your trips all over! Keep up the amazing videos!
Great working with you guys, love what you do! Hope to catch up soon
Was this at the the FJ Summit. Also I love the drive going over imogene pass.
I think I watch your episodes 3x as much as Fastlane, thanks so much for pushing me to get outside and explore this amazing world around me
Land Cruiser is an iconic car, this car is extremely popular in Russia and Kazakhstan, basically countries which have no roads
Toyota is king of reliability
Hazardbone Mercedes has the most vehicles with over 1mil miles, but id give Yota a close second.
Keegan Johnson that’s only because of taxis.
Toyota is abused and overloaded and approved by insurgents the world over.
cjeam isurgants? Lol great folks... but really. Toyotas probably second, but mercedes diesels outlive everything. Taxis or not. 99/100 in the junkyard still run the rest of the car just finally broke.

I love my 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser. It’s got 262,000 miles. Still drives perfectly. Original owner here too! One owner car.
My 1984 Peugeot 205 diesel had 422,456 miles on it before the body work completely died, and?
My Land Rover has 567,901 miles and is going strong...
My 2006 Nissan Pathfinder have 800,001 miles on it and still run like new.
My 1999 Land Cruiser has a 1.2 mil miles and runes like new
Azif did you post mileage Instagram?
They call them King of the road in Australia. They are built tough, they are reliable and they go anywhere off road!
What a load of rubbish. They are not more reliable than anything else. The 200 series is full of issues.
King of *land

It's so satisfying and nice to hear that. Unfortunately the millenials today feel that they need to buy/lease a new vehicle every 3 years.

I know stories of Land Cruiser 80 series and newer getting abused to hell by people (on purpose and by accident), and they still run like new.
I've followed Expedition Overland for several years. They have forgotten more about overlanding than most people will learn in a lifetime. Excellent info.
Probably the most informative video I´ve seen on overlanding in a Land Cruiser. Great questions by the INTERVIEWER.
My dad has a 2018 land cruiser V8 5.7 engine and it is the best when we go off-roading in Qatar it goes superwell

Kurt mentioned he has a Land Cruiser accessory business, what's the name of it?

Awesome! I could listen to his knowledge for days.
Totally missed this one! Kurt is a wealth of knowledge and great seeing more TFL + XOverland content!! Keep up the great work, Roman!
Love expedition overland. Please do one of their Tundra, all of their vehicle builds are awesome

It's really pleasing to see Australian products being thought well of in the USA. The Patriot Campers gear is very high quality kit, expensive but you certainly get what you pay for.

This is awesome, TFL and Expedition Overland. My two favorite channels on youtube collaborating!! Great video...
80 series is hard to beat. Bulletproof drivetrain and solid axles with Triple locking diffs. You guys have a link for the rooftop tents on that 200 series?
I tired to search for that tent and google came up with nothing :(
@darren knight we don't have the manual gearbox option in the USA so no worries here. We do not get the diesel option either though, so that sucks.
Awesome to see you guys hook up with the Xoverland crew. They seem extremely knowledgeable and I love their videos! This was a great vid!
More videos like these please ! And I’ve seen that land cruiser around Bozeman before that set up is SWEET

except for the 80 series powered seats :P

This guy knows his shit. Toyota needs to hire/ sponsor him.
Here in Australia outside the citys the landcruisers are everywhere for a reason ! . aaaaand then you see a $120.000 land cruiser in the city doing the groceries and you shake your head.
Awesome episode. This guy got a lot of my money when I built my old 71' FJ40 15 years ago.
I love my FJ to death and will never sell it since I think of it as an entry level LC :D.
get the newest one you can with 50-80k miles. It'll possibly be less than 50K and last you more than a brand new Jeep
Wouldn't doubt it. LC's and Toyota's in general are built to last.
Their show is friggin awesome. Well presented and captures the journey without bs
Landcruiser is really the king truck for the off-roading!
Great insight and i enjoyed your video.
Oh yeah i forgot to mention i own a fully kitted out 200 series but mine is the twin turbo deisel.
Cheers Eric from Australia.
I love that two of my favorite TH-cam creators have come together.
Expedition overland is a great channel to watch. Great interview!
I love the ultimate luxury of the Range Rover but I love the Ultimate Off Road handling of the Toyota Land Cruiser
This guy really knew his stuff. Great video.
I have one I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! best SUV in the world by far, nothing comes close! love the way they look too. they look old school so cool!
In the beginning of this video, saw you had Montana plates. That was good for me to see. I currently live in central montana and have recently picked up a 91 LC...though needs a little TLC, I love it and looking forward to refurbish. Thank you for this documentary .....this was a great!
I do agree landcruiser is built to last. I own a 80 series that is 28 years old and 80% of the parts are still original.
Another well done video. That guy really knows the Land Cruisers.
Expedition Overland is one of my favorite overland teams. Great content.
Greeting from Australia
Here for expedition overland! Kurt sure knows his stuff!!!
Gwagen or Land Cruiser ??? For me 100% Land Cruiser .
Best car I ever had. My 105 series is the beast! I'm swapping the 1FZ-FE for a 1HD-FT (100% mechanical diesel).
Title match the car, love from Papua New Guinea just north of Australia, we love land cruiser and Ford ranger F150 more than any other brands. These two cars can get you wherever u want and get you home with any major problem. Feed them with Desiel or petrol, that's all, seat back and enjoy your ride.
This gentleman is a great speaker.
Love Toyota 4x4's
Thank you Roman that you finally love Land cruiser too😉
Super interesting segment! Thanks for the well edited and articulate interview.
Very Awesome Ride I wish more vehicles where built to last
