I started to learn spanish 2 months ago. I hope to visit somewhere in Mexico later this year. I have been considering living there at some point in the future. Its hard to decide where to visit first. I appreciate the information you are putting out. It helps! 😃🥰
The hardest part is in assessing all that you want out of your ultimate location. We actually created a spreadsheet to help in that determination. We were able to narrow it down to about 30 cities that had all the checks for the boxes that we required. You need to take into consideration how it will be to live there when you are in your 70's or 80's. Medical care accessibility as well as for us, an international airport. We are now 5 months into our 4 year journey around those locations to gauge affordability and how we like these locations. It takes work, but it is worth it to find your perfect home here in Mexico!
Kathy lives in a nice area! It looks like this was filmed in December, just so people know, the peso is gaining strength and isn't worth $20 USD like it used to be, the exchange is $17.97 pesos to $1 as of today. Just something to keep in mind when budgeting.
I am just seeing this video 1 year after recording. Her monthly expenses are now $ 1,765 just due to the devaluation of the American dollar and the strenghening of the peso in the last year. Not including inflation. I also live in Mexico and compared to my monthly budget, she does not have any expenses going toward healthcare, no cellphone, she never leaves the city to travel anywhere and no expenses for her cat, ie, cat food, litter, and a dozen miscellaneous expenses. Just saying the viewers are being mislead to think that they also can live of $1400 / mo. just fine. Its getting harder and harder to do that in Mexico. FYI.
Thanks Kathy 😊 for choosing a part of Mexico to live , welcome to the paradise 🎉 👍🏾🙏🏾😇🥇 from a Veracruzano guy " Jarocho " working in Coahuila State , Mexico 😎😊
I lived in Ensenada in the sixties with my uncle it’s gotten so much nicer now like more modern I may move back when I retire thank you for sharing your experience ❤👍👏🏼👏🏼
Kathy we live in San Carlos, Sonora about 7 months per year. The remainder is near Seattle. We are Residentes Permanentes and speak Spanish. We love Mexico, but the climate in summer near Guaymas is brutal. Some day in the future we will not want to drive the 4 days each way between Seattle and San Carlos. Ensenada is one potential option. I like that there is a major University in Ensenada. Questions: - How are summers in Ensenada? - Are seasonal rentals (July 1- September 30) readily available? - We currently live in and own a condo on the beach in San Carlos and love it. Is the topography in Ensenada such that many or most properties have views of the Ocean? - How large is the gringo population in Ensenada? Currently about 45% of San Carlos residents are gringos (in winter).
Moving there soon! I really wanted Guanajuato, but the medical facilities around ensenada are more what I need for the mid-term, and it's close enough to the US for me to work on my application for residency until I get it locked down. ❤ So stoked, thanks for the video!
I'm from California seriously considering retiring in Mexico and I like Ensenada for many reasons including its proximity to Alta California. I have broken Spanish but definitely needs improvement.
@ 17:15 I added all the expenses multiple times and they don't total 30,000. Is there a certain amount extra added to that not listed for healthcare or some other expenses or is there a couple expenses missing a digit? Thanks
These are Kathy's Expenses Monthly. All in MXN unless noted otherwise. Rent: $9000 (pesos) monthly Water: $90 (pesos) monthly Electricity: $300 (pesos) monthly Gas: $850 pesos every 6 months Internet (high speed) and landline: $700 pesos monthly TV: $40 (dollars) monthly Food: $4,000 (pesos) monthly Transportation: $500 (pesos) monthly Eating out with friends and other leisure activities: $1000 (pesos) monthly Housekeeper and Gardener: $3000 (pesos) monthly about $26,000 pesos a month which is about $1400 (dollars) a month.
Great video was just there passing through visiting a friend. It's indeed a great smaller town with very great vibe and friendly locals, heck even the traffic slows or stops for people to cross the roads!
??? When I add up those MXN numbers (Pesos), I get a total much smaller. Approximate total of 20,240. If the list intended 3,000 for a Housekeeper AND another 3,000 for a Gardener, then the total is 23,240. Where did I make a mistake?🤔

Hi Mariana, great video as always. I have a question (or two) that I've never seen answered and KNOW that you could answer them. When getting your temporary residency started in the US you have 180 days to start the completion process in Mexico. My question is, when does the 1 yr renewal date happen? Is it 1 year from when you started in the US or 1 yr after you have been given your temporary residency card? 2nd question: Can you apply for permanent residency (from US Consulate) before your 4th year of temporary residency if you qualify financially, or once you a temporary resident you must wait 4 years (with renewals) before applying for permanent residency? Thanks for your time and all that you do, you and the relocation guide website have been a great resource!
The 1 year is from when you are given your card in Mexico Yes you can apply for perm at a Mexican consulate but know that you will basically be starting over
Really nice video. I'm from Arizona, so I'm a frequent visitor to Mexico. I'm leaving the US (2024). Unfortunately, I'm going far. Off the Continent of North America. Nevertheless, I plan to visit Mexico one more time before my departure. ¡Hasta Luego! Suerte🇲🇽 ❤👍🏾
I think I can live for even less. I will just want a 1 br apartment or casita or studio. I’m going to Guadalajara next week and visiting Ajijic and Chapala. I plan to get there in 4 years when I’m 67. But could be sooner if the cost of living gets worse here in San Jose CA. Thank you for the video. ❤

@@bessmahaneypilates8638 If you go there, it's the CENTRO downtown that's most impressive. You can only arrive there going through tunnels, so nice if you can stay right there so you can walk everywhere. The hotel handled all the parking and if you drive your own car parking can be challenging in that centro area. It is a very special city and everyone in Mexico knows about it. I had my electric window fixed for $30 and had a water pump replaced, too, for a very low price.

We are now 5 months into our 4 year journey around those locations to gauge affordability and how we like these locations. It takes work, but it is worth it to find your perfect home here in Mexico!
welcome to Mx.
Thank you so much for the video. I’m moving to Mexico in few months and this video was so helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
❤ good for you! Keep living and loving and spreading kindness as you do
What a nice message for Kathy
Kathy lives in a nice area! It looks like this was filmed in December, just so people know, the peso is gaining strength and isn't worth $20 USD like it used to be, the exchange is $17.97 pesos to $1 as of today. Just something to keep in mind when budgeting.
I posted her budget as of Feb 2023 :)
Would be nice to do Canadian exchange rates too!
The current rate is $18.91 and climbing. As always this happens frequently and is never permanent.
it crossed 1USD:17MX$ last week
I'm glad she is doing great! I'm from mazatlan. I grew up in Ensenada my home is there, now I live in Canada 🇨🇦 for 15 years
I am just seeing this video 1 year after recording.
Thank you! 😃
Never mind, just found your FB page and sent you a comment.
Been going to Ensenada since 1970, the city has grown!
Like everywhere else in the world.
She's so sweet, I love her! ¡Qué linda y agradable es! Me gustó mucho escucharla hablar.
Es un amor la señora Kathy ❤️
Congrats Kathy. So happy you are enjoying your retirement. Enjoyed your video very much.
Glad you liked it Mary- hope you can check out more content like this on our site mexicorelocationguide.com/blog
I lived in Ensenada in the sixties with my uncle it’s gotten so much nicer now like more modern I may move back when I retire thank you for sharing your experience ❤👍👏🏼👏🏼
It's getting to commercialized now cost of living is less though
It is looking crowded now.
Props to you gutsy lady!!!
She’s an inspiring lady for sure 😀
Kathy we live in San Carlos, Sonora about 7 months per year. The remainder is near Seattle. We are Residentes Permanentes and speak Spanish. We love Mexico, but the climate in summer near Guaymas is brutal. Some day in the future we will not want to drive the 4 days each way between Seattle and San Carlos. Ensenada is one potential option. I like that there is a major University in Ensenada.
Questions:
- How are summers in Ensenada?
- Are seasonal rentals (July 1- September 30) readily available?
- We currently live in and own a condo on the beach in San Carlos and love it. Is the topography in Ensenada such that many or most properties have views of the Ocean?
- How large is the gringo population in Ensenada? Currently about 45% of San Carlos residents are gringos (in winter).
First place I looked at, not even here for 2 weeks. Rental laws are very different here, so be diligent! Lastly, yay for Kathy!
Some people def find a place fast!
It is very important like she said to take your time and find the right place .
Moving there soon! I really wanted Guanajuato, but the medical facilities around ensenada are more what I need for the mid-term, and it's close enough to the US for me to work on my application for residency until I get it locked down. ❤ So stoked, thanks for the video!
Great video! Thanks for sharing your experience! It opened my mind up!
I'm from California seriously considering retiring in Mexico and I like Ensenada for many reasons including its proximity to Alta California. I have broken Spanish but definitely needs improvement.
Just keep practicing- and once you’re in Mexico it’ll be much easier to be immersed
Rent: $9000 (pesos) monthly
Water: $90 (pesos) monthly
Electricity: $300 (pesos) monthly
Gas: $850 pesos every 6 months
Internet (high speed) and landline: $700 pesos monthly
TV: $40 (dollars) monthly
Food: $4,000 (pesos) monthly
Transportation: $500 (pesos) monthly
Eating out with friends and other leisure activities: $1000 (pesos) monthly
Housekeeper and Gardener: $3000 (pesos) monthly
about $26,000 pesos a month which is about $1400 (dollars) a month.
Thank you for sharing your experience, take care!
love this kathy is awsome
Great video was just there passing through visiting a friend. It's indeed a great smaller town with very great vibe and friendly locals, heck even the traffic slows or stops for people to cross the roads!
Thanks for visiting
Yes, it's beautiful town, I'm live here...
Its like paradise living in mexico when you want to retire or decide to just move there I hope to move there one day if i get to that age.
You can do it also. 😀
Hola from the beach in San Felipe. Been here 2 years!!
You like san felipe
Good for you Kathy. I wish you well.
We the ensenadenses welcome everybody ❤
Gracias ☺️
Gracias from Canada
Saludos
??? When I add up those MXN numbers (Pesos), I get a total much smaller.
Approximate total of 20,240. If the list intended 3,000 for a Housekeeper AND another 3,000 for a Gardener, then the total is 23,240.
Where did I make a mistake?🤔

I went to a really cool car show in Ensenada. Lots custom
Good deal & info Thanks.😊
Glad it was helpful! Check out our website for more content mexicorelocationguide.com
I live in Guadalajara for many years. Same budget.
Thank you!
Thank you to help the scholarship in ensenada
Good for you Kathy. It's not for everyone.
Thank for all your advice. I saw you when you were on before. Sorry about your leg. Barbara
The Climate in the Summer is just nice and cool, until the 3rd week in August and three weeks in September, when it gets hot...about 80 plus.

Going to enenada I was shocked by the different coastline compared to southern, Central and northern california
I currently live in Fresno,CA. I'm 66 thinking about somewhere cheaper than California. I move from Seatttle (got very expensive) to Fresno (cheaper) but it is getting expensive here too.
Good Info. Thanks
Hi . I also from fresno California and when you said I'm from fresno get me like yoho .I watching you video today in 102 degrees outside in case you miss fresno heat 🔥 😜😜😜✌️✌️
The 1 year is from when you are given your card in Mexico
Yes you can apply for perm at a Mexican consulate but know that you will basically be starting over
@@MexicoRelocationGuide Thanks Mariana! I'll be buying the guide soon to have all the information I need, I'm sure it will be worth the cost!
@@RBothne Yes you will really use the guide alot, the trusted contacts and updated information are a great value! We are satisfied clients of MRG
Ensenada is visa free. You need nothing special to live in Ensenada. You don’t need permanent residency.
Wow! What a great advise kathy. God bless
Don't wait!! You'll have a great time in Mexico and Guadalajara is an excellent choice. You'll have so much more fun in Mexico. My favorite locations are Guanajuato, P.V. and Huatulco.
It can be done on less than $1400- it’s all about your lifestyle
@@dennishassler605 I want to check out Guanajuato too!
@@davidsebastianelli1326 yes, I will do that. I’m working with a financial planner, getting my $ together. I won’t be able to afford a higher financial solvency than this year’s.
Thanks you for this helpful video. All the best from lovely Cancun.
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for sharing your story
Thanks for listening
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi..sra...god blesh you....💪🇱🇷🇲🇽💪❤️🌎👍
Thanks for the info Kathy. I am just looking to get away from the frantic pace of working and the frantic pace of life in the USA. It is all wearing me down. Looking forward to moving to Colombia in 4 years. Hope the USA and work don't kill me before then.
Thank you for this very engaging and informative video.
One comment, though: 30,000 MXN translates to USD 1777, not 1400.
And rising every day unfortunately.
It changed today again $1 USD = $18.49 MEX
We need it back above $20 MEX
You'll have to be comfortable knowing that you are moving to a country with a different coin. And there will be fluctuations. That's part of building a retirement budget.
Yes great video Kathy!!! beautiful. IDK how to get in touch with you about rentals. Not looking but offering.
Hello! Kathy was a guest on our channel. We have a ton of resources on finding rentals on our page. Please check out this one - mexicorelocationguide.com/lp-rental-tips/
Great info from Kathy. Thank you. Glad she mentioned the water situation and the need for a tinaco. Thats hugely important and not something all americans would know.
I'm curious about her health insurance. Does she have IMSS for her public hospital visits, and private insurance for her private hospital visits?
Can she elaborate on her costs for her medical procedures? And did she need to pay for them up front?
Did she stay in the hospital?
She’s living the Mexican dream !
Tantos persiguiendo el
“sueño americano” y tan bello mi país , cuando llegas aquí no todos te ven bien , la mayoría son muy arrogantes y cuando can ellos a Mexico los reciben asta con alfombra roja!
Thanks for sharing your experience. You also have a very lovely personality.
She really does!
What do you decided to do with the Medicare (A,B,D or Gap/Advtg) issue ?
We have a good Q&A about that th-cam.com/video/gb2xKVsV3IY/w-d-xo.html
I love Ensenada Bc🇲🇽
Thanks for sharing I’m considering moving soon to the south maby San Cristóbal de las Casas
Best of luck!
Where did you get your Mexican Visa with only $1,600 monthly? What Consulate did you go to? Thanks.
She is going to apply for the special regularization resident visa that is given to people who overstayed their tourist permit. Find more about it here mexicorelocationguide.com/regularization-program-residency-in-mexico/
@@MexicoRelocationGuide Thank you.
muy informativo, gracias.
Gracias! Que bueno que te gusto
Depends on location in central Mexico no real contracts and so many apartments and houses for rent you can find a place Ina week
Of course. This is Kathy’s perspective and not how the entire country works 😊
I’m really considering move to mex, in a mo me and my husband being home 6300k net, out of that not much can be saved, between mortgage, utils and food, US is designed to leave you flat.
We completely agree- Seems so many people are striggling to stay afloat in the U.S.
And $6300 is not a small income by any means. Luclkily, Mexico welcomes you and your family and you can live with dignity and savings for the future.

Does anyone know a website where I can find apartments for rent, I live in Maryland but want to move to Ensenada, I just need a studio or 1 bedroom.
Hi Aaron here's an article that can help with that mexicorelocationguide.com/best-rentals-in-mexico/
May your retirement be a fulfilling experience. Nothing like financial security and knowing medical cost are under control during retirement.
Nice to meet you girl !
Bienvenidos a México.
Hi Kathy. Can I ask how you go about providing and address to the SSI and how you receive payments as an expat?
I use a Tecate P.O. Box. payments are direct deposit. Everything with social security can be done online.
