    I totally did the opposite. Went to MX once for 2 weeks, went back for 3 weeks a couple of months later and bought a house, closed on the house 4 months later, and within 5 months sold or gave away everything I owned and moved to Mexico. Virtually no planning involved. When I make decisions sometimes I just jump off that cliff and never look back. Now here for 7 months and couldn't be happier with the house, the neighborhood, my nieghbors, the geographical area, and the climate.

      Thanks Brenda. We left it at the border and boy are we glad that we did. It is such a relief not having people yell over top of each other and think they are having a conversation. That is the part that was starting to drive us nuts. People are entitled to have different views and that doesn't make them evil, stupid or hateful. They have lived a life that has lead them to these beliefs and if one took the time one may find that there is validity in what they have to say. That requires listening and actually engaging in conversation. That is totally lost in the tribalized US. OH Well, time to get off the soapbox. Thanks you for watching Brenda.

    We moved to Mexico in 2022. We purchased a beautiful, 4/4 home near Cuernavaca, and we have never been happier or more relaxed. We didn’t want to live in an expat area because those areas are pricier and too catering to "Gringos". I am forced to learn Spanish, which at near 70 years of age is not so easy, but people are kind and patient with me. My husband is from Mexico but has been a U.S. citizen for 25 years. When we were married 23 years ago, we traveled to Mexico to see his family, and I fell in love with Mexico. We returned almost every winter to spend time traveling all over Mexico, and I realized that Mexico was where I wanted to live for the remainder of my life, so here we are. Best decision I ever made.

We are constantly meeting new and wonderful people everywhere that we go. And yes, so far, we are finding the same thing to be true regarding living in an area with a high concentration of Gringos just doesn't feel as comfortable. We are also having to learn Spanish and feel your pain, but the people here are so accommodating with us. As long as the effort is being made, they will work with you. It is a shame, but until people wake up and start to be civil to one another, I fear that it is on a road that leads to bigger problems. It starts in Washington, when the leaders of the country show civility, people will follow. It has not been evident for many years and people have taken their cue from them. As child our parents took us there while on school vacation. Im now 68, i spend a whole lot of time in tijuana. I've always brushed off media's news feed. My sister returned in the 70s and started various businesses and very successful. Ive traveled to restorts as an adult with family. But 10 years ago life threw me a curve.. divorce.. lost everything to her, courts just side with women in California.. i did end up with my children as that to me was more valuable than materialistic things even money.. im finally very stabilized mentally and financially. @@GringosRUs that's a deal 🤝
      First we thought of Chapala area, not Ajijic... Too darn crowd, some entitled expats and the infrastructure sounds like is getting too critical regarding sustainability ( according to Lake Chapala Society's TH-cam reports, and several comments from the locals; this trend seems to be spreading towards Jocotepec, Chapala city , San Antonio Tlayacapan. We will be visiting there BUT to check out the towns further towards the East side of the lake and up north towards Puerto Vallarta (far from the coast... Heat and I no longer get along. Got good information from Access Chapala Real Estate agency's talked personally with them and we will see what they know about the near areas of Guadalajara/Puerto Vallarta/Chapala.... "Juntos pero no revueltos" ( together but not mixed up) an old Mexican saying... 😂 We prefer quiet and easy going place to spend the rest of our days staring at each other and see who goes first.... LoL 😂😂😂😂

    • @GringosRUs
      @GringosRUs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dragon-kf5sb We are also doing the Jocotepec, Ajijic and Chapala run at some point. The longer we are in the country, the less enthused I feel about Ajijic. When we were doing the planning stages, it was very high on the list, but in watching other TH-camrs, it has lost a little of the luster for me anyway. If we were a little down on SMA due to the increased Gringo presence, I have a fear that Ajijic will be the same. Plus there is the traffic issue and that is not something that can readily be fixed as the layout really dictates the road possibilities. One of the things that we are doing is trying each location at it's worst time of the year if possible. Like Merida in the heat of the summer. Everyone says how hot it is there, well, if we love it then, we will definitely love it in the winter. We just don't want to be guilty of not totally knowing what we are getting ourselves into. If we start melting on our videos or resort to doing them only inside, then that will be a good indicator.
      You do sound a lot like us, looking for that right location. It looks good on the map, but until you try it you don't know. Hence our 4 year tour around Mexico seeing all the potential landing spots. If it's a staring contest at the end, I am toast. LOL

      As we have continue to travel around Mexico, we are now in our 12th city, we have found this to be so very true. The people open their hearts and arms and have made us feel so very welcome here. It is the best part of moving to this wonderful country.

      I fear because Americans are found in a ditch on the side of the road dead. I can understand why some people are just killing Americans because the USA trafficked their country people that we saw on TV they were in cages! And now we hear nothing. We don’t know where they are but not here. So I gather that T. is also involved in human trafficking.

    This is the reason why a lot of people is moving down to Mexico.
    most people in the US ignore what is
    In the other side of the border.
    Most people hear Mexico and think about violence, cartels, kidnapping,
    But that's not the real MEXICO.

The pace of life, the happiness and the sense of family here in Mexico is what makes this a truly magical country.

      The biggest savings that we are realizing, financially speaking, is in the ancillary items. Pharmacies, mercados, and gas. Yes, gas is more expensive here, but we don't drive like we did in the US. It was always in the car we would go, here, there and everywhere. Down here, we walk a lot more. The hardest part is in making the decision to pull the trigger, so to speak, on making such a life altering move. We took some time to come to the decision, but we are so glad that we did. We are now in our 12th city of our tour to find our retirement home. The people here in Mexico have made us feel so welcome and we just continue to live our dream every day. We have about 10 or 12 more cities to go before we make our final determination, but it will definitely be here in Mexico. All we can say is "come on down, the weather and people are both warm and inviting!"

    I enjoyed listening to your story. We are both over 67 and renting in SoCal near Laguna Beach. We have visited many beach towns in Mexico the last 18 years. Cancun definitely is not on our list. Puerto Vallarta is one place we have visited 9 times and enjoy very much. We have visited Loreto Baja Calif. twice the last 3 years. It is a beautiful quiet and peaceful town. We love the waters of the Sea of Cortez. Thanks for sharing!

      Thank you so much for taking the time to watch. We agree totally about Cancun, and for that matter the whole of Riviera Maya. It just doesn't fit us. It works for a lot of people though and that is what matters. We are going to be going to both PV and Loreto in our journey to find our new home.

    Hi, new to your channel. I love the video. As a Mexican living in North México on the border has been normal for me to travel into US (and in México of course) and is a little sad how the things have changed over the years; (now I feel not really welcome in US sometimes) ; you are right; there´s a tension now that I never experienced when I was younger as a tourist in US. I travel to Guanajuato every year in October, with a stop in León and SMA when i have the chance. I realy like your honest and warm words :) Jorge

Mark sir, Gina ma’am, I wish you the best on your adventure to 30 locations. I will watch and wish you good health and plenty of remote work to keep you motivated. Mark sir, I take it you were primarily into film. If you did digital, would you still pick up work and if so, what kind of work can a digital photographer do in Mexico? Asking for myself one day/some day.

    • @GringosRUs
      @GringosRUs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for those kind words. I did eventually switch over to digital when the economics basically mandated it. When it was a dollar for every time one pressed the shutter button, it did not take much to convince me to make the switch. I got rid of all my gear when we came down here, no room in the car, and besides, I am retired. I do think that a good photographer could do well down here. Between shooting good shots for real estate and AirBnb's and then the never ending supply of nature and candid life in the streets. It all depends upon where you would want to settle in to.

      Actually, we had appointments for McAllen and then were able to get into the Kansas City consulate. It was a very nerve racking experience, all self imposed, but we were done in a day. The hardest part is actually GETTING and appointment. It seems that a lot of the consulates only do residency visas a few days a month and only a limited number on those days. It almost becomes a lottery in some of them. We were overprepared in what we took, but it was needed. We were short a couple of dollars one month of the required amount and since we had our marriage certificate with us, we were able to do it as a dependent. Best advice we can give, take everything, birth and marriage certificates, multiple copies of everything that you are bringing and most of all, bring your smile. It shows them that you are taking this seriously and that you will be an addition to this wonderful country!

They are so quick to share a smile and a greeting. We took our time in deciding to make the plunge so to speak, but now we are so happy that we did it. We are now in our 4th city of the tour and we can say that the people are consistently the same all over Mexico. Start making your plans to move and there is no better place to begin than with the Mexico Relocation Guide. It was our main resource for everything that we did regarding the move here.

That was a huge chore and we really wish we had had more time to accomplish it. But start writing your plans down and refining them and then before you know it, it will be time to move to Mexico. I do recommend that if you are able to get your residency in 2023 to do so. That way you get the rates before they go up yet again.
