Russell moved to #huatulco at the end of 2020 from south Florida.

In Mexico the Actual Government created an every month social money help program that means that Mexican older people receive e directly every month the necessary amount of money to live without suffering from stress of not having a job or somebody to help them out or because their age that means that every single old Mexican person no matter their marital status, political ideology, gender, religion, etc,, they'll receive every single month enough money to live Maybe not a luxurious lifestyle but yes in a descent way ,

After watching your video I started considering to visit Huatulco very soon, recently retired, December 2022 from Dallas, TX and currently residing in Monterrey, it's nice here but it's a huge city with terrible traffic and I need a more peaceful life, and been thinking about moving to a small beach town, thank you for the information Russell. There are many people who live by these rules. Maybe you’re not meeting them but there are more foreigners living by these rules than not
I would do the same! So important to respect the people and culture where you live and to learn the language to the best of one’s ability as well!

It's funny how those in Mexico complain about Americans but those that go to America from Mexico completely disregard the customs and traditions there.
@@airtechmech6681 what is severely lacking too in the US is the unwillingness of Americans to let people of other skin colors feel part of the community where they live don't matter how hard we try ,from my own experience I can't even remember how many times I was denied a greeting back when I said good morning or hello to people and how many Americans gave me a hard or disgusted look just for being in there line of sight I even remember people asking to seat in another table because of some brown people seated to close to them
It makes me happy that people from other countries like to live in Mexico and show us the Mexicans all the nice and wonderful things, places, food, etc that we have in Mexico. As Mexicans, sometimes we forget about it.

I've been in San Miguel de Allende for 3 months and prior to that in Lake Chapala for a couple. I've always lived on the ocean. I commercial fished in Alaska when I was young and it's a passion of mine. I now own a house on the Oregon Coast that I just leased for a year. You made me cry Russell. Your attitude is so refreshing. I lived in Mexico (Yucatan) for a couple years back in 1997. Loved it. I am trying to decide between Mazatlan and Hualtuco now. At 71 (feeling 50ish) I want to be outside as much as possible and heard that Mazatlan is a lot cooler than Huatulco. I plan to move down from Wa. later this year. Thank you so much for your video. I can't wait to get there!!
Mazatlan isn’t cooler than Huatulco. But I guess it just depends on whose asking. They are both very warm/hot areas 😃
Why did you leave the Yucatan?
What I love about Mazatlán is that you have a large malecón to walk or ride a bike, also the people in Mazatlán is incredible happy and welcoming.
And the cherry on top is that if you get bored of the beach you have pine forests and snow areas and cabins to rent about just hours away.

Some of the things that one doesn’t experience on TH-cam is the smell of the food, smell of the fruits, and even the smell of burning diesel from the buses. Mexico has its own scent, smells, and noise. This man is living his best life without a doubt. I passed by this town on my way to Puerto Escondido back in the day and I really enjoyed it. Wish this man nothing but the best👍🏽👍🏽

Exactly! The only danger I’ve ever encountered in Mexico was their sidewalks. I feel safer walking in Mexico than I do in the United States. I’ve never eaten, fresher or better produce.

We visit Puerto Escondido, it was a virgin beach, beautiful
I LOVE Mexico and Huatulco. Spent 2 weeks there a few years back, drove my rental scooter to the waterfalls (don't do that.. didn't realize they have GPS 😂) I especially enjoyed the music and dancing in the town centro every weekend. The beaches, the People, the weather, the food.. Everything about that whole area is awesome! I would definitely live there. 👍

I live in Thailand I believe it is similar in cost. If I was to do it over I would probably try Mexico. Mexico is closer to the US and the time zones are more in line. Here in Thailand the distance and time zones are not convenient at all, other than that I am happy here. You put together a great video Russ.
Thailand is currently about 50% cheaper than the US and Mexico is about 25% cheaper, according to cost of living research. Generally, the cost of living follows the same as the difference in currency rates. So lower exchange rate, also lower cost of living. That has been my experience in these two countries, anyway.
Russell did a great job! I am not looking to move to Mexico, but I enjoy watching your videos and hearing from the folks that have moved there. This is also a great way to learn about a city and decide if I want to visit. I visited the city of Oaxaca about 20 yrs ago and loved it. The Bahia de Huatulco will be next.

I see at 3:25 Terazas Huatulco condo complex. That's where we are staying at the moment. We lived just outside of Playa del Carmen, (Puerto Aventuras) full time, for 6 years but are now checking out Huatulco as a place to live. Thanks for the video. Well done. I’m in synch with your expat philosophy. Walking everywhere is the best way. Glad you are helping the local people with the Rotary Club volunteers. We all need a sense of purpose. Cozumel and Puerto Vallarta are nice, but I look for a place with a more local demographic. The Mexican people are wonderfully traditional with family and loyalty. I hope their traditions can be preserved. Thanks!
Love that! Remember that Mexico is still Mexico. Even in the touristic towns- the Mexican culture is still very present. You just have to look for it more. Luckily there are more less touristic in places than the reverse 😌
Sounds like a dream retirement. Horseradish!? Not many people I know in the States eat horseradish. My parents are from Hungary so we grew up eating it. Good stuff. I think you have a great attitude Russell about living in a foreign country. Being a part of the community is important.
I eat horseradish sauce and prefer it to the original. Yes, I'm in the states.
@@TheBunky2008 I was talking about the actual root that you need to grate. It can be very 'hot' and definitely clear your sinuses. Not sure how horseradish sauce compares as I've only had it fresh. And again, not many people I personally know even know what it is.
In Germany, we ate cooked beef with horseradish sauce - Yummy 😊

I watched this because I worked in that area in May of 1991 for almost a month. That was when the Mexican government had just started developing the area. There was one hotel which I have identified as Barcelo Huatulco. That wasn't what it was back then. I think it may have been a Hilton or some other internationally known chain. There was a golf course which is still there and a Club Med but that is about all. There was Salina Cruz and La Crucecita and further west, Puerto Angel. That was it. Not many people at all. There was the open market in one of the towns and very few places to find food. The hotel food wasn't good at all even though it was very expensive.
I watched and watched and didn't recognize anything or anyplace. I had no idea that there had been that much developement there since I was there. It looks nice now. It's a complete transformation from what it was but I realize that was a long time ago.
I know someone who has been living there off and on and has a diving business. I had wondered if it had changed and now I know!
If I wanted to live where it was hot all the time and near a beach, that would be right at the top of my choices.

I don't have insurance either. However, one thing to keep in mind is that insurance will cost more the older you get and the more existing health issues you have when applying.They may refuse to cover costs for health problems that existed before you signed up.

You'll find that Puerto Morelos has a lot more tourists and it has the cenotes but it's flat with no mountainous areas near by. With Huatulco because of the mountains, there is more visually beautiful scenery just looking out your window or walking around town. It also has more beaches and cool little towns to visit that are close by and are not over run with tourists. Huatulco is a very pretty and quieter small town that I think you would probably enjoy a little more but you can still party if you want to. Both places get pretty darn hot.
Thanks David, I agree with the points you made. The more I think about it, the reasons why I leaned toward Puerto Morelos seem less important. I do think that Huatulco has more of the vibe that I'm looking for. Do you live in Huatulco and/or have you visited both places? And I do want to be somewhere that is hot all year, don't want to do winter any more. Currently I'm in metro Atlanta and it gets very hot and humid in the summer (upper 90's in both temp and humidity) so I think I'll be ok with the hot weather.

Huatulco is safer and the weather is better! After seeing major crime in the Yucatan would never live or vacation there

I’ve been to Sayulita Bucerius and Puerto Vallarta , I’m trying to decide where to try a winter . Thanks for this . I’m 63 and sooo tired of the cold winters , it’s still cold today April 4th !

You have to like this guy. My only comment would be that he could have provided some details on monthly costs, especially regarding rent and neighborhoods.
The thing is that all changes and in a few months those costs are no longer the same. So to help give you an idea his social security is about $1500 or less a month USD
@@MexicoRelocationGuide 🤔 don’t think it’s changing that much when talking about prices in MXN then, the national currency of Mexico. Exchange rates vary. Converting into other Currencies using the current exchange rate is easily done on google f.e. by anybody.
MXN (at least shown on screen) would be a great service to people watching your channel coming from other countries but the USA and would be highly appreciated. Having an account in GBP or EUR or AUD or NZD people won’t know what you’re talking about especially after some time not being familiar with the history of USD exchange rates you were referring to, Mariana 😉
