I was able to get the Winged shield by doing Reda’s challenges when it was available. Also, you can get the whole Carolingian set by joining Amazon Prime and linking your Ubisoft account. Then you can cancel Prime at anytime later. It’s a little bit of a hassle but worth it for anyone wanting to do the free trial period, or for any gainfully employed player who buys stuff or watches Prime shows anyway.
I like running a shield and hammer (I play very stun and crit heavy) so the sarcophagus shield is amazing for me. Every third parry I ignite the enemies around me and it burns a ton of their health bar down. Since I'm either parrying or heavy attacking most of the time I get the effect fairly often. This shield is a godsend on raids especially

To anyone watching this recently and I also don't know if you've covered this already @LegacyGaming, there's a shield call the Saint George's Tower Shield which gives a +20 melee damage buff for 5 seconds after blocking. Literally the same buff for the s tier shields except rather than paying for it, you can get it from River Raids. Hope this helps!

Right around the same time the game was announced and first showed off, they said you’d be able to duel wield anything including 2 shields. Ever since then, I knew that’s what I wanted to run as my main weapons through the whole game. Im 175 and have been using double shields. It is so much fun and you are an absolute tank.

Yeah I agree with this. The Morrigans shield is one of the best in the game IMO. Very powerful if used correctly. Also disagree with the ranking for the shield that gives a buff to back damage. I mean seriously, who blocks then attempts to get back damage?! That should have been bottom tier.
I don't think they're bad shields in the context of a build, but standalone I really don't think they're a cut above the rest. You can get fire and poison effects through abilities very easily, especially in the end game, so I would rather have pure damage buffs than an additional elemental effect. I think it would take some really deep dive theorycrafting to figure out pound for pound what works best. I hear what you guys are saying though, 100%. It was incredible tough ranking those shields in particular because of this very reason.

I see your point; i think the advantage of these procs is basically giving you a free ability use. rather than popping fire/poison, you have a very reliable proc on a parry which is a huge plus for a leveling build since adren slots are very limited. i also agree with the logic behind a +melee/atk effect being highly valuable and not easily reproducible, but i question the real world usage of a 5s bonus on a block given the short time, the stamina drain...if your 1-2 attacks are blocked your perk is negated.
I used a shield at the beginning but felt it was fun to have a dagger in my off hand to do a quick jab of damage. Still some pretty good choices for shields though.
if you have a one handed weapon equipped in your right hand and nothing in your left, if you hold down the left attack/block button, Eivor actually jabs at the enemy with their hidden blade, dealing a shit ton of damage and knocking them down. much more effective than a dagger.
Next tier list could be diamond runes. I’m on the fence with a few and would love your thoughts. Amazing video. Appreciate the time you take to make these!
By the time I ever get to a 5th block my enemies are usually dead anyway. They're only good for siege or if you choose going in swords blazing over stealth in enemy camps n forts
@@twoseriousdogs6762 Blocking whiles its their the game is still very much fast paced. If you do use a shield I would play aggressive and mainly parry/dodge. Especially late game when you encounter much more enhanced enemies that seem to throw unbloackable attacks out at you like it's going out of style.
@@Shishomuru right now I'm using the spartan shield with a high damage/stun build. So there's plenty of blocking and aggressiveness on my end and when they spam me with unblockables I spam right back with Counter Roll lol
My favorite shield is the Blodwulf Light shield. If you ever want to do a fire build, this is the shield you should have. I use it with the Saint George Holy Sword and I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. I also use the Morrigan shield but my only problem is that I can’t see from the poison cloud

For everyone wondering, you can still get the Carolingian Pack if you connect your twitch and Ubisoft account. They decided to extend the date the Feb 13 I managed to get the set along with the Carolingian shield that Codiak mentioned in the S tier.
I think it is funny how people pissed and moaned that shields were not on Odyssey ( particularly since the whole Spartan ethos was centered around their shields) but now that they are back in this game, many players prefer two spears. For me, when I think Viking, I think axes.However, I am one of those who wants one-handed swords. 🤓
The Hrafn Guard should be ranked as an A or S shield. Its duration is about 25 seconds. The effect can be anywhere from 5-20 pt speed buff depending on how many blocks. Use it in the off hand with Dane axe (Dwarven Axe) or a Flail. You now have the speed of a bearded axe that hits like a truck.
I love how much worse every item is in vallhala than in odyssey. It provides much more of a challange and you cant get ridiculous builds with garanteed one shots, crits and immortality. I personally play on the drengr difficulty and hold back on using my skill points exept when necessary to keep it challenging. Ik some people may not like it but personally i think its great
Wanted to see your input on something but I noticed that Danes Axes and Flails get their damage cut in half when dual wielding the same variant (ie 2 Flails and 2 Dane Axes). But all other weapons don't have this effect it seems. For example, my Flail by itself (or with any other non flail weapon) would do something like 36 to 40 damage per hit. But when using a 2nd Flail, it goes to 18 per hit. Dane axes had the same issue. Something like 80 down to 40 per hit. My first thought was "k, maybe twice the attack speed with combo animations since you're swinging both at the same time, it compensates by cutting damage in half." This is actually a semi common design from my experience in rpgs because it gives shield and single weapon uses balance since they are slower speeds. So I further tested because I'm now curious to why my Dual Spears and Daggers shred vs my Flails even though the latter have superior stats for me.... When I used a Spear, the damage for a single spear is about 27 to 35ish. When switching to dual spear, it stays the same. Thus my DPS was literally doubled. This was true with daggers as well and bearded axes and hammers--granted hammers have a different style of combo animations. But this means that Flails and Dane Axes are being absolutely gutted in DPS since other weapons don't have this issue. If you don't mind looking into this and tell me if you have any ideas as to why this may be a thing or if its a bug. I did report this to Ubisoft but wouldn't mind another set of eyes on it. Cuz it does explain a little bit why damage from dual Spears and Daggers is pretty insane if all of a sudden they deal similar damage to the hard hitting Flails and Axes in dual wield form.
I picked up Ice Wall from the thousand eye merchant the first time I spoke to him bc I dont mess with the micro transaction stuff and figured i would blow all my opal's and never look back. Kinda glad abt that
I think you're really overestimating the value of a 5 second buff of a block proc. the parry procs are far better. I'd rather have morrigan/sarchophagus/plank proc than get 5 seconds with after a block which drained your stamina to land what...1-2 attacks? Icewall, i think, its top shield but hard to say w/o crit theorycraft.
If you are good at parrying (it's not very hard in ac valhalla, you can try equipping Bloodwulf with the restore health upon parrying rune and alsohave the flame upon parry rune work at the same time), equip a main hand weapon with the ignite weapon rune and put the raise crit chance rune after each hit on your ranged. Add to those, burst, combustion attack and drelingir runes and you are ready.
Just a note... the Carolingian shield was free for like two months. Sorry for anyone who didn’t snag it, but the armor, spear, and shield were 100% free.
Yes this is super acurate im playing with an axe and the briton shield and if you find 3 restore health on parry runes it is broken. And now combine this with the skilll tree skill that if you get hit if you hit him back it restores baisicly all of the health you took you are baisicly invincible. I love your videos and pls do a strategy guide (in multiple parts due to beeing in a lot of them) and i can help.
Shields are really useful because they are the only weapons that allow you to parry in the middle of a finisher. They make playing on hard or nightmare scaling much easier because of that

So when I was playing I stumbled upon the Britain shield at the very beginning by accident. So I started with the London quest line and I went around collecting everything I could. the fort you have to go to and take the key off the big guy. I shot him with sleeping arrow while he was alone in the church and just took the key and left with no fighting. Lucky me I never really realized how good it was thanks.
Love all these reviews Codiak...maybe you should do a revisit of shields...melee weapons and armours with all the new content that we have now...Before Dawn Of Ragnarok DLC comes out...Cheers.
I don't use shields, but I agree with your assessment. If you haven't done it already, it would be cool to see which one handed and two handed weapons are the best for duel weilding. New to your channel don't know if you've done a list like that, love the content brother.
im disagreeing with the rating of the higher shields. you can use morrigan/plank/sarcophagus and cakewalk through the game. plank+blacksmith is a ridiculous tandem.
@@snpagy yeah you can use them but that doesnt mean they are.more fun to play. The dlc shop gives you cool ways to play that doesnt feel stale by hour 6.
The Broken Wings shield is amazing It Block, Stun, & Speed is off the charts. Allot of fun to play with. I think using the Celtic Shield with Frost Ruin would be very powerful for an Ability build, I love using shields, the parry is one of favorite things to do in the game. Great video,
All you need to beat the game is the Britons shield. With that and blacksmith's hammer i took out all 3 daughters of Lerion at level 160, default difficulty setting. Parry, heal, stun. Rinse and repeat.
Fyrd Spear + Poison Strike Morrigan's Guard Bullseye + Ranged Poison Strike Draugr Armor Set All poison skills from the tree So this is the build I went with as a stealth focused character. When I did get put into open combat I usually took my time, making sure to watch for parry and dodge(slow time) chances. Honest take, where does that put the Morrigan's Guard for you? Since you said the right build would change it.
You should do a video explaining what the different stats actually mean to the player. Like melee damage vs attack damage, crit chance and crit damage. Some of the details get lost on people I bet especially younger players.
One day we hope Legacy Gaming gets bigger than just the two people that run it now. Livid and me (Codiak) run the channel together, but hopefully one day we’ll be able to really do this thing right and dive into some more full time. Right now we both have day jobs and other responsibilities outside the channel. I wish we could dedicate 100% of our time to Legacy, but for now it’s just a side hustle

Actually I could buy the nilfheim shield with opals for 0 real cash. I don’t know how it works but for opal u can buy ubi store items at least thats my experience. (I have bought dwarven and nilfheim shield with opals)
Broken Wings isn’t a carbon copy of the Briton shield - the Briton shield gives a one-off health increase, whereas Broken Wings gives health increase over time.
The tooltip is a bit misleading. The HOT isn't that much different than just restoring some health when you block. It's not a noticeable difference so it ends up in roughly the same place.

Love my sarcophagus shield. I mostly chose it for its look. Yup, I'm that guy.
I remember just fucking around and I just found Morrigan’s Gaurd early on in the game. Works great.
block 5 times is a terrible perk; it will drain your stamina. the best shields will proc a parry+block perk for a parry.

If your wearing any of the heavier armors, you can usually only block about 3 attacks in a row before your stamina is completely drained.

Spartan shield is actually S tier as it's a "bear" shield that increase all damage after a block.

im disagreeing with the rating of the higher shields. you can use morrigan/plank/sarcophagus and cakewalk through the game. plank+blacksmith is a ridiculous tandem.
@@snpagy yeah you can use them but that doesnt mean they are.more fun to play. The dlc shop gives you cool ways to play that doesnt feel stale by hour 6.
I use the shield that A)restores health with a parry+parry does damage. Or B)The shield that starts a fire as a parry.
You should do best builds
I usually rock the Celtic cross shield which I’m glad that’s top tier
You changed my mind on the Royal shield, that was at the settlement merchant
The Broken Wings shield is amazing
It Block, Stun, & Speed is off the charts.
Allot of fun to play with.
I think using the Celtic Shield with Frost Ruin would be very powerful for an Ability build,

I like the plank and buckler, a block is just an early parry. You should be aiming to parry every blow not block.
All you need to beat the game is the Britons shield.
With that and blacksmith's hammer i took out all 3 daughters of Lerion at level 160, default difficulty setting.
Parry, heal, stun.
Rinse and repeat.
Fyrd Spear + Poison Strike
Morrigan's Guard
Bullseye + Ranged Poison Strike
Draugr Armor Set
All poison skills from the tree
So this is the build I went with as a stealth focused character. When I did get put into open combat I usually took my time, making sure to watch for parry and dodge(slow time) chances. Honest take, where does that put the Morrigan's Guard for you? Since you said the right build would change it.
You should do a video explaining what the different stats actually mean to the player. Like melee damage vs attack damage, crit chance and crit damage. Some of the details get lost on people I bet especially younger players.
how about saint george's tower shield? it has the same effect as the carolingan shield
I think the sarc shield is desecent when parry and run posion coating on ur help really does some desecent damage

One day we hope Legacy Gaming gets bigger than just the two people that run it now. Livid and me (Codiak) run the channel together, but hopefully one day we’ll be able to really do this thing right and dive into some more full time. Right now we both have day jobs and other responsibilities outside the channel. I wish we could dedicate 100% of our time to Legacy, but for now it’s just a side hustle

Does anyone actually like spear combat other than me lol? I haven't heard you mention spear builds in this or the armor set lists. Fafneers spear with Britain shield is such a nice combo IMO.

Actually I could buy the nilfheim shield with opals for 0 real cash. I don’t know how it works but for opal u can buy ubi store items at least thats my experience. (I have bought dwarven and nilfheim shield with opals)

You have to update all your lists
Broken Wings isn’t a carbon copy of the Briton shield - the Briton shield gives a one-off health increase, whereas Broken Wings gives health increase over time.
The tooltip is a bit misleading. The HOT isn't that much different than just restoring some health when you block. It's not a noticeable difference so it ends up in roughly the same place.
I totally agree, it belongs in the S tier
You should cover and compare the Diamond runes in AC Valhalla.
