it is not in perfect condition, so it doesn't have to be restored to factory specs. there are (luckily) already enough of those around. like chopping up and modding a volvo amazon. enough of those to go around as well.
Depends it could have been one of those cars that look great on the outside but can be hiding something sinister, some people have the tendency to hide potential problems, say like using bog to hide rust holes.
Damn, this video quality was awesome. Usually CT videos looks more like a youtuber with his bunch of mates making videos, but this one was straight up there with any car shows. It even reminded me of the old top gear...

Been watching for a few years now and I love seeing how the production of your videos is getting so much better. The only criticism is that sometimes Alex's mic audio quality can be a bit off, especially when in larger open spaces. Also, Alex's hosting is top notch. Keep it up guys!

I would vote for a 2.0l because most of us europeans have pretty high taxes for bigger engines, and mileage would be significant factor for most of us... either way I'd like to see a "living with a boxer" series as well. (Most probably with a sweet subaru :D)
Sadly, they don't build them like this one anymore. No one does. These cars are the founders of "made in germany" as a quality badge. Just a bit confused why people are astonished over the price, it's 50 years old an in decent condition (certainly better than most 15-20 year old cars that i've seen on sale in the UK). £12k is a bargain.

I'm so glad to see you guys doiong this car for this series! I owned a 1973 280SE just five years ago. I bought it for $1000 Canadian and drove it for five years daily. Putting $at most $300 into it for repairs. It was a great car! It wasn't slow either. (Well not like a Diesel). IMy room mate had a 1984 Datsun 300ZX and the Mercedes was way quicker than that. But rust got it in the heart in one winter. So quickly. RIP.

Ok I am in. I've been working on my classic mini in order to get as close to Hopkirk's famous 37 mini at Monte Carlo in road holding and power. Now with 95bhp, less than 600kgs, custom suspension, more gauges, better cooling etc .... And it feels absolutely amazing. I don't want to drive anything else ever.
I used to own a 1972 280SE 3.5 V8 and it was such a great car to waft around in but was fairly quick when it got going. Great looking cars. Will be watching your project closely!
If you guys are near Stuttgart I highly recommend going to the Mercedes-Benz Museum! You pay 8€ for the whole day and also get a nice Mercedes-Benz key leash at the end of the tour. One of the best museums I have seen so far and a great value.

That's the price Mercedes told him to say, a road worthy 280SE is worth around 7000€. 15 000, is for a 220 SE Coupe that drives but needs TLC.

The 300 SE L "Red Pig" was not supported by Mercedes, it was kind of an independent AMG racing car.
AMG is now owned by Mercedes. Guess they quietly took over the car ;)
