Great list, Larry, and happy new year! Funny coincidence that you listed The Maltese Falcon. I just started reading it over the Christmas holidays. I came off Blacksad (Dark horse) and was craving another hardboiled noir story. This is my first exposure to the story, I never saw the film, and by golly it's amazing. Best, Kam.
Fun video - brings back memories as I’ve been with you the entire year. I like how you add each photo (I’ve complimented you on that before.). Boy do I really commiserate with you on the coughing!!!
I just finished reading the Sixth Gun last week, one of your videos showcasing your paperbacks helped really encourage me to seek out the series. What a ride! Thanks and great list
Great list Larry. My top pick is the graphic novel adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. I reckon you'd like it based on some of the ones in your list 🙂
Great list! That iZombie omni was the omni that made me an Alred fan as well! That omni lead me into the slott silver surfer omni that Mike did the art for as well and it was awesome. Happy new year and I hope you get to feeling better Larry!
Great list, Larry. Here’s my ten reads of 2024 1 Lost boy the true story of Captain Hook by Christina Henry 2 our little secret by Emily Carrington 3 A silent voice by Yoshitoki Ōima 4 Crimson Cobblestone by Marie Lestrange 5 Kirby the epic life of the king of comics by Tom Scioli 6 Monsters by Barry Windsor Smith 7 The hobbit J.R.R. Tolkien (reread) 8 Keeping Two by Jordan Crane 9 The ocean at the end of the lane by Neil Gaiman 10 The thief of always by Clive Barker
Funny, I happened to read Fear Agent in its entirety last year too. It was my second time reading the whole thing and I enjoyed/appreciated it much more the second time around.
I was never a big fan of the Silver Age until i read Fantastic Four and Spiderman. Marvel was doing wonders in the 60s. Den was great to finally read as a collection. I have the old Heavy Metal mags that he was featured in, but quite a bit of it is hard to read with the black font on dark backgrounds. I'm really glad they released a restored version. I've been meaning to check out Fear Agent for a while. You may have helped bump it up on my "to read" pile 😅. Happy New Year, Larry! I am looking forward to future videos 👍
Thanks so much! And yes I'm really not a big Silver Age guy either with a few exceptions. Bronze Age and early Modern is my favorite eras. But then again I do love a lot of recent stuff too like SubGenre.
Great list, Larry! I actually haven't read ANY of these except Fear Agent! Several have been on my radar for ages, but Subgenre is totally new to me (which is surprising as I like Kindt). Funny that you enjoyed the Lord of the Flies adaptation so much - I had a similar experience with the Watership Down graphic novel having never read the original book nor seen the film version either. Based on the Kristen gifts that made your list, I'd say she's got a good track record! Like you, most of what I read is older stuff (or at least not published in the current year), so my top ten doesn't feature a lot of the books people are buzzing about since I simply haven't read them yet. I read 84 collected editions or graphic novels, which adds up to about 622 issues (estimated based on page counts for OGNs). That's not bad (reading time and energy is limited with a toddler and infant in the mix), but I'm hoping to hit 100 this year and prioritize my absurdly large and shameful to be read mountain and avoid (as best as a comic freak can) buying new releases. Anyway, with all that said, here are my TOP TEN READS OF 2024 in (mostly) no particular order! 🥳 THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK by G. Willow Wilson & Chris Wildgoose PRISON PIT by Johnny Ryan NIGHT HUNTERS by Dave Baker & Alexis Ziritt WATERSHIP DOWN by Richard Adams, James Sturmish & Joe Sutphin UPGRADE SOUL by Ezra Claytan Daniels AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS by Gou Tanabe 20TH CENTURY MEN by Deniz Camp & Stipan Morian CONAN THE BARBARIAN by Jim Zub & Roberto De La Torre FINAL CUT by Charles Burns and my #1 read is PINOCCHIO by Winshluss @PANELSwithPETE on Instagram
Cool list… There were a couple books that I read in single issues and found less satisfying than you did…and i wonder if i would have had a different response if id read them in collected form. Happy New Year!
Thanks Sleepy! Happy New Year to you as well. There was a phrase we used on the Comic Forums years ago "Writing for the Trades". So yes sometimes certain works read better collected I think.
Don't know if this is how it still works. But before(around 2016) you just needed to send them a message you wanted to be a Goodreads librarian and why and they'd give you the privilege. It allows you to edit and add book info and even books. I read a lot of books with bad info and no covers that I can now easily correct. Great vid btw!
@@LarrysLibrary Now I'm reading "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind. Book by Yuval Noah Harari" His writing is addictive. You'll finish his book in no time. (I hope it's OK that I talk about books that are not illustrated. I like some comic books but I'm not a die hard fan.) You came on my feed and I really enjoyed your sense of wonder, so Isubscribed to your channel :)
Kirby and Ditko dawn of the Marvel Age are some of my favourite Marvel comics, the FF run is great. i zombie, nice, I enjoyed that as the issues came out, would have run longer but I think DC spoiled themselves during that end of the Vertigo era. Most of my favourite reads of 24 were prose, reread my Elric collection and the new novel Citadel of Forgotten Myths slotted into continuity, count them all as one. Best of CL Moore, some short stories I'd not read before from one of the great writers of the pulp era. John C Hocking - Conan : City of the Dead, two linked novels in one, entertaining pastiche Conan M P Shiel - The Purple Cloud, an early apocalype novel, bleak, macabre, if you like Mary Shelley's Last Man you'll probably like this. Laura Purcell - The Whispering Muse, gothic story set in the theatres of London. E Hoffmann Price, W.T. Ballard & Robert Leslie Bellam - Dr. Zeng Archives : The Complete Adventures of Doctor Zeng Tse-Lin, entertaining pulp detective collection. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec, four bonkers stories in two Fantagraphics collections of the fun French comics. Dan Dare : Mission of The Earthmen, superb painted comic strips compiled from the British weekly, The Eagle. ZOT! : The Complete Black & White Collection : 1987-91, classic scifi indie comic. Batman : Nocturna and the Night-Thief, from the Hachette DC heroes & Villains collection, an exclusive run of interconnected late bronze age issues DC have never reprinted.

When I read a Janes Bond novel, the voice in my head is always Sean Connery!
