- If you’re on the hunt for some amazing leftist books, I’ve got you covered. I’m Justin, and I run the Champagne Anarchism reading series. I just finished putting together the 2025 lineup, So let's dig in. These six books are perfect for digging into leftist theory, history, and activism-and I’ll be hosting discussions for each of them throughout the year.
Here’s the list:
📖 Anarchism and Other Essays by Emma Goldman - A fiery introduction to the iconic American anarchist.
🌎 Open Veins of Latin America by Eduardo Galeano - A poetic and powerful history of colonialism and exploitation.
🌿 The Ecology of Freedom by Murray Bookchin - A deep dive into ecological anarchism and the roots of hierarchy.
🔥 Caliban and the Witch by Silvia Federici - A revolutionary perspective on capitalism, feminism, and history.
✊ Freedom Is a Constant Struggle by Angela Davis - Essential reading on activism, prison reform, and global solidarity.
💰 Debt: The First 5,000 Years by David Graeber - A sweeping, eye-opening history of debt and its impact on society.
You can follow the full schedule on my Patreon at Patreon.com/ChampagneAnarchism-it’s free to join for the main feed, so you can read along and join the discussions. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these books-what excites you most, or what insights you’ve already found in them?

I’m very excited, especially for books 3 and 4. The history of our perception of witches is very interesting and entirely new to me. I found a used copy of the first book and I’m ready to go!
loved seeing the nerdy love in your eyes with the spanish anniversery edition :)
Thanks a lot for the recommendations!!❤ I really needed this...Looking forward to read all of them in 2025!
Subscribe for the Bookchin read along!
Viva Rojava!
Hell yeah. Welcome!
Great list. I think Emma Goldman is a truly heroic figure and I’ve always been a little interested in anarchism theoretically because I’m opposed to power but the few times I know of that it has been put into practice things didn’t work out well. Don’t think I’ve heard of Caliban and the Witch before but am eager to check it out. Debt is destined to become a modern classic and anyone seriously interested in economics should read it. We lost Graeber way too soon and people who like Debt may want to read his BS Jobs book which puts into words some things I’ve long suspected about how useful a lot of jobs really are. Be well.⚛️❤
Have you read "The New Economics: A Manifesto" by Steve Keen? if not you might love it being an econ major. Great list, I will check out Open Veins. I read Debt a few months ago and it was amazing
This looks fantastic, adding to my list. Thank you!
No Chomsky?
do you have any recommendations on material on the conflicts between Palestine and Israel? doesn’t have to be explicitly in pertinence, but i’ve been seeking any work that is relevant to the issue!
reading political books sounds like the worst reading experience id rather read colleen hoover
